alumni volleyball tournament. wgn's randi bellisomo is live with the latest. >>there is now a ten thousand dollar reward from st louis crimestoppers for information leading to an arrest in this case as megan boken's wheaton parents are pleading for anyone who knows who killed their daughter to come forward. >>saint louis police say they believe megan boken's killer may have tried to rob her before shooting her in the chest and neck but investigators don't believe that shooter took anything she had. >>she was at my apartment staying with me, i'll never see her again. >>the 23 year old wheaton native and former all state volleyball player had traveled to play in an alumni volleyball game saturday at her alma mater...st louis university. boken was parked outside of her old college apartment building around 2pm...just a couple of hours before that game was scheduled...when witnesses say they saw

a man open the door to her volkswagen. the two appeared to be shouting or arguing before the man fired two shots and got away. >>she was one of the greatest people i've ever met. >>boken's former coach says the young woman was on the phone with her mother at the time of the shooting. that call ended abruptly. her mom heard static and after she tried unsuccessfully to call her daughter back she began to call others who had gathered for the game. the boken family released the following statement this afternoon quote: more than her athletic acheivements, megan showed us all what it meant to be a teammate and a friend. she was a model for how to prepare, how to inspire others on and off the court, and how to compete at the highest level purely for the joy of it. boken's father has traveled to st louis.

his administrative responsibilities. >>pastor corey brooks is back in chicago tonight taking a break from his walk across america. brooks returned to preside over the funeral today of 19-year-old tony dunn. he was killed two weeks ago, just blocks from the pastor's "new beginnings church" in woodlawn. brooks, you'll recall, spent three months on the rooftop of an abandoned motel across the street from his church, to raise money to tear it down. now he's raising money to build a community center. no word on when he will resume his journey. >>chicago track-e students headed back to school for what will now be a full-year of classes. mayor rahm emanuel greeted students and parents this morning at noble auburn gresham college prep on the city's southside. the mayor said, " its a new year for students across chicago because now they have a full day and full year of school that matches up to their full potential." >>members of the chicago teachers union began

informational picketing outside chicago public schools which are already in session.today's demonstrations highlight the ongoing disputes between the teachers union and c-p-s. teachers have been without a contract since june 30-th. the union would need to give a 10-day notice before members can issue a work stoppage. cps says they are hoping to come to a resolution without disrupting students they issued this statement today which read in part. >>the tone of negotiations has been positive and we've made real progress. we will reach a fair resolution given that there is far more room for agreement for the issues that remain on the table than not. >a longer school day for cps but it won't cost students any extra getting to and from class. that's because cta leaders are revising the times students can use their reduced fare cards extending the schedule to reflect the longer school day. cps students pay five dollars for the pass and may now ride buses and trains using that card between 5:30 in the morning and 8:30 at

>>two more people have died in texas from west nile virus both elderly and in poor health. officials in dallas county are spraying thousands of acres against mosquitos trying to prevent more human infections. texas has had more deaths from west nile this year than any other place in the country. ten in dallas county alone. some residents are questioning the spraying, but the mayor of dallas says it's the most effective approach. . >> we have to make sure that we get every crack and crevice we cannot just go into every neighborhood. >>the outbreak in texas has been one of the worst because the state had a mild winter, followed by lots of rain. >>at least 17 illinois residents have been

sickened with salmonella as part of an outbreak involving cantaloupes grown in southern indiana. the outbreak has killed two people so far and sickened 150 others since it began in early july. the cdc is advising consumers to throw out any cantaloupes from southern indiana. salmonella symptoms include diarrhea fever and abdominal pain. >>chicago is taking steps to offer an alternative to high gas prices. ecotality along with a number of electric vehicle stakeholders unveiled their latest vehicle charging station at the intercontinental hotel on michigan avenue. industry leaders discussed what it will take to make chicago a hub for electric vehicles. as part of the electric vehicle act bussinesses that offer charging stations will now receive incentives. . >> the state has made a strong commitment to supporting these incentive programs because they offer so many benefits to our economic development. >>this latest launch is

children. diller made more than two dozen movies and entertained troops in vietnam. her family says she died peacefully in her sleep. phyllis diller was 95 years old. >>a good samaritan act by rosie o'donnell led to a heart attack. a few hours after lending a helping hand to a woman who was having trouble getting out of her car, the 50 year-old comedian experienced chest pains and nausea. she took a couple aspirin and went to see her cardiologist who discovered a 99 percent blocked artery in her heart. doctors call that kind of heart attack "the widow maker". they inserted a stent and rosie is now resting comfortably at home. >>with a new school year gearing up senator dick durbin held a news conference at loyola university warning new college students about the differences and risks between government loans and more expensive private loans. . >> it's outrageous many of the students drop of
