>> on august 31, 2007 she met with the pastors and she had something to tell him about her husband's third wife. she said she woke up in the middle of the night and he was not there. he did not answer is on either. when he came home in the early morning hours she found him dressed in all black pudding is closed and a bag of women's clothes and the washing machine. he said he told her that the police would want the sitdown an interview her and " he told her what to say to the police. peterson then coached his young wife hours. she said she lied on tuesday have to the police. stacy peterson disappeared less than two months after confessing to her pastor. on cross- examination, defense attorney joe lopez asked why he never told anybody. he said stacy told him not to. and then he said a

word that had never been uttered in the court room. he called for pedersen a murderer at least three times. chari never said anything about pedersen killing at savio. >> i think by the third time you hear murderer you get the message. did even though he had disinformation he did not do anything. lopez said you let her go home to a murder. >> it sound ridiculous that he would let her go home and get murdered herself. >> the prosecutor said the state ended the week strong. their confidence must be high. i think we had a powerful finish to our case and we're looking forward to next week and perhaps even getting closing arguments. >> but before closing arguments

the prosecutor want to call more one more witness tomorrow. a man tossed from the courtroom for staring-down drew peterson and mouthing an explitive at him may face contempt of court charges. his name's jeff ruby, and he's a restaurant owner from cincinnatti, ohio as well as a self-proclaimed victims advocate. he describes what happened: >> peterson truned around and starts staring me down. he's giving me the evil look. so i start giving him the evil look back. so he looks a little dirtier than was before and i finally (bleep) and he just went..., he turned around and went (bleep ...) ruby added the trial is a travesty, and a prime example for why there should be cameras in courtrooms. the will county sheriffs office gathered a list of witnesses to the incident, and the case may be turned over to the illinois

state police. an exotic dancer personal emails, and shooting range surveillance footage were the focus today at joliet's other high profile trial. christopher vaughn, accused of murdering his wife and three children, sat and listened as prosecutors read dozens of emails from kimberly vaughn, portraying a strong relationship with her husband and kids - contradicting the defense's contention that she was suicidal. later in the day, the owner of a plainfield gun shop and shooting range testified that vaughn used the range twice including the night before the murders. prosecutor's wrapped up the day questioning a former exotic dancer vaughn had contact with in the weeks leading up to the murders. she said vaughn told her he was single with no children. saint louis police are now questioning two people about the murder of megan boken, a former volleyball star from wheaton. the possible breaks come as family and friends said goodbye to her today. wgn's julian crews has more on how she was remembered.

before a private session with families of the victims and survivors of the attack. reporters and photographers were allowed to see the first lady's arrival at the school but were not permitted in the meeting. a temple official said later mrs. obama expressed her condolences and offered any help the community needed. it could be a movie script but it's a real life nightmare for hollywood mogul harvey weinstein. a chicago area man has been arrested for threatening to kill weinstein's family if he did not wire 13 million dollars to an off shore account. fbi agents arrested 25 year old vivek shah at his parents home in schaumburg. they say he wrote extortion letters to weinstein and four other millionaires. shah is an aspiring actor. if convicted he faces 20 years in jail. a second death linked to the west nile virus here in illinois this season. this time, the victim is a 64 year-old elgin man who died last week. the first death was 76 year-old lombard village president william mueller. he died of complications from the virus.

while most infected people show no symptoms, about 20 percent develop mild flu-like symptoms within about two weeks after a bite from an infected mosquito. serious illness and death are possible, with people over 50 at highest risk. tomorrow night at this time, cardinal francis george will be attending an event in oakbrook. his first public appearance since it was revealed he has cancerous cells in his liver and kidney. the cardinal will be at the "noche de gala" hispanic ministry awards banquet. it will honor his 15th- anniversary as archbishop of chicago and also honor the archbishop of san antonio - gustavo garcia-siller. he is a former auxiliary bishop of chicago and will be recognized for his dedication to hispanic ministry. 75-year old cardinal george and his doctors are determining a treatment plan for his cancer. he battled bladder cancer six years ago. coming up in the medicial watch: more on the cardinal's diagnosis. how a new treatment for cancer

two men under arrest tonight after a chicago police wreck of a theft ring involving city property. police said they found the stolen goods. >> after several months of investigative work, the chicago police made a huge discovery today. eight sergeant at the department says of millions of dollars of stolen city party was found here at the ibm e scrapyard. tonight two men are in custody in connection with this crime. the sergeant said the stolen items include hundreds of sewer covers and thousands of tree grates. according to police, thieves have been targeting the heavy

metal items due to the recent increase in value. the problem police say stretches city-wide but certain areas have been hit particularly hard. the aldermen from the 32nd walt and the 45th ward represent two of those highly targeted areas. both ealdorman were out there earlier this evening in assessing the situation. the stolen items are still here inside the scrapyard. you can see the police unit behind me guarding the entrance which has been taped off with police tape. i am told in the morning the process will begin to hold all the stolen items out. as to the two men being held they could face charges of felony theft. >> while mayor rahm emmanuel is defending his plan to fight graffiti.

the city has made significant cuts to the popular graffiti blasters program. but despite slashing money and man power mayor emmanuel says the program is more efficient than ever. business owners we spoke with today disagree. and say these days it's faster to handle the problem on their own. >> finding local businesses tagged with graffiti in the with the park neighborhood. it seems about every part has graffiti right on the store fronts. many neighbors say they are so used to it it doesn't bother them. >> is part of the neighborhood. i think it creates more character for the neighborhood. it brings more style. >> but a local business owners, graffiti is a real problem. he has been selling vintage clothes in the neck with a 25 years. he said as soon as he wipes it off the graffiti appears again. he does not bother asking the city to take care of it anymore. he

said it is just easier to do it himself. the graffiti of blaster program championed by mayor daley the program has been cut by about 20 by%. despite the cut back the mayor's office said despite the cutbacks the cleaning of the graffiti has become more efficient. they are now focusing on whole neighborhoods instead of just a few walls and the community. they have put a blank wall for graffiti officeartists to work. this

in tonight's medical watch shedding new light on the bladder cancer. it is not new light but a dike that helps the doctors thought cancer cells and have missed with the naked eye. this may make a significant difference when it comes to a patient's outcome. six years ago he was diagnosed with cancer. they removed his bladder, prostrate. this week a second diagnosis this time cancerous cell found in his kidney and liver. bladder cancer when it does recover it most commonly recurve in the lungs liver and bones. we are talking about needing pretty powerful

captured in indiana. the turtle crawled out there and there it was. montgomery capped a beautiful sunset tonight across the area. it has been a beautiful day. we have a 90 degree temperature without all the humidity. what a gorgeous day. we started with cement and high-level cloud cover. we warm up and got some nice warm days on the way with humidity building at the pretty good storm with rains later in the weekend. a lot of the attention is down in the tropics where we have a isaac moving across the caribbean and headed for haiti and the dominican republic. the storm was strengthened slightly tonight with 45 mi. per hour winds. here is a look at what it looks like. the purple areas

show the winds. the storm is expected to cross into cuba within the next 48 hours. these have unsettling south with time. tampa is where the convention is and here is how the storm is supposed to move through the florida straits. in the open water of the gulf, they will pick up strength. this environment is highly interested for strengthening. if it moves up into the warm water here is what it might look out like by the time he gets to sunday afternoon. i want to show you the diversity of model solutions here. this one takes an almost to louisiana and texas and oklahoma. one of the weather service models takes a little further west but still has it heading towards the northern

as we showed you, there's much at stake depending on which path tropical storm isaac will take -an example of the need for extremely accurate hurricane forecasting. the national weather service is now four years into a ten year study to improve hurricane forecasts. researchers have become very good at predicting the path of a hurricane. so good, errors are half what they were twenty years ago. but what they dont fully understand is why one hurricane blows up into a katrina and others fizzle. >> 'it looks like a concrete bunker. it has to survive the winds of a hurricane. this is the national hurricane center in miami.' >> 'we have some hurricane nuts here!' >> chris landsea is admittedly one of those nuts. here, they analyze a hurricanes location, strength, and size. >> 'ok, lets look at what other possibilities we have- let me take a look.' >> they use that information to issue hurricane forecasts for the next five days. landsea was born and raised in miami and has personally experienced the destructive powers of the

all quadrants of a storm and drones are now being used to linger in storms that would be too risky for humans. >> i was learning a lot about hurricanes from these data sets but i wasn't seeing it being used in the models. and that's been a real revolution for us.' >> theyre also looking at very complex microphysics. whats happening in the ocean and how the air and sea interact. >> 'this is the saharan dust.' this particular dust kind of hangs around in the mid levels of the atmosphere. so, it sort of impedes the growth of hurricanes.' >> getting answers to storm intensification cant come a moment too soon. >> '50% of the people in this country live within 50 miles of the coastline and you can see why, it is beautiful! here in miami beach, people work play and live as close to the water as possible.' so as the coastal populations grow - accurate forecasts that give adequate evacuation lead time become ever more critical.

>> 'if you live in a hurricane prone area, it just takes one. you be prepared! and that message has got to come out.' dr. marks says our high tech world makes us far more vulnerable to weather-related disruptions. and when we asked about global warming, our experts tell us if the climate models are right and there is substantial global warming in the next few decades, there would be more wind shear affecting the tropics which would actually mean fewer hurricanes. but the ones we do get may be stronger. that kind of interesting. this is such a timely thing because some of these improved models are being incorporated in the forecasting technique on isaac. we are hoping to improve these

the white house has a secret beer recipe and thousands of people want the brewer-in-chief to give it up. it's called "white house honey ale.." and beer fans started an online petition, demanding president obama's home-brewed recipe. one blog has even filed a freedom of information act request to get it. a white house food blog says the chefs have brewed up three types- the honey ale, a blonde ale and a honey porter. and the honey used in the beer comes from the white house bee- hive. >> you know they're all those great microbrews coming out.
