well a lot has been made of mitt romney's tax returns. today, he released the 2011 returns. the republican presidential nominee made $13.7 million last year, the majority of that investment income. paid almost $2 million in federal income tax making his effective tax rate 14.1%. they donated more than $4 million to charity. ann romney's plane made an emergency landing this afternoon. the plane's cabin filled with smoke from an apparent electrical fire. mrs. romney's plane was headed to l.a. but landed in denver where it was met with emergency vehicles on the runway.

mitt romney not onboard. a spokeswoman wrote they were not injured. wrote on twitter all okay thank goodness. booed in an aarp event in new orleans. those in the audience did not like the comments when president obama's signature health care law should be repealed. >> the first step to a strong medicare is to repeal obama care. it represents the worst of both worlds. i had a feeling there would be mixed reaction. let me get into it. >> president obama spoke to the same person earlier via satellite. the claim by republicans that $760 billion is being cut from medicare to fund health care is simply not true. pat quinn had good news from joliet. but some of them there wanted to tell them something as well.

the governor was in joliet to kick off construction on a $42 million transportation hub. but some state workers protested. they say they're not happy with pension cuts and deferred pay increases. stopped on the chicago high-speed rail line creating 400 construction jobs. he called out the protesters saying state workers have gotten a 45% pay increase in the last eight years. two decades of shuttle flights ended friday when endeavour ended at l.a.x. airport after a three-day cross-country trip. the shuttle show cased from coast-to-coast piggy backing on a boeing 74 up. crowds gathered to watch endeavour's touchdown. he launched his camera into the air with balloons to get great jobs of the city. then his idea went south literally in the case -- well, he's technically -- when the

balloon and the camera got away from him. taking the camera from the bridgeport neighborhood, the wind blew it all the way to laporte county, indiana. we caught up with the man behind the balloons and the folks in the hoosier staid who found it. >> when ben jordan and his girlfriend set out to get some aerial pictures of the bridgeport neighborhood they never imagined they would be caught up in what's been dubbed the great balloon mystery. the plan was to send a digital camera high to the sky with six oversized balloons like the one you see here all tethered to the fishing line bchlt uh the plan hit a snag. launched it here. it went up successfully. i was holding it. the line was strong. i stopped the line and then it just got weak and i was like -- well, it's gone. >> the balloons floated some 70 miles away, finally coming to a stop on a farm in rural indiana.

told. written and directed by paul thomas anderson, the story of scientology as seymour hofman captivating the group called "the cause." they're joined by the drifter joaquin phoenix aimlessly drunkenly floating from one bad situation to the other until he's taken in by the group and se deuce bed i the rhetoric and the validation it gives the empty life. "the master" isn't an easy movie to follow, but the gutwrenching performances will draw you in to this mysterious story and engage you like no other film so far. expect oscar nominations and probably wins for hofman and phoenix for the amazing tales of tragedy and triumph. never appreciate what cops and their families go through every day. you follow two l.a. cops assigned to one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the

country jake guillen hal are friends and trying to keep order but you can see how bad the bad guys can be. the video plays out like a video diary. the brotherhood, the dangers the politics of police life. while all of the hand held video makes me nauseous, this enhances the jagged edge tribute to reality. not as impressive is the new clint eastwood movie, "trouble with the curve." once again, the oscar winner is playing the same old grumpy man character we've seen over and over. this time as a scout is about to be put out to pasture. amy adams is the daughter he never had time for to step away from her own successful life and care for her cranky dad and ease him to the retirement. it wants to be a moving father-daughter movie and also a old timers know baseball better

little pocket of rain. light to moderate rain for the most part. cracking to the chicago area. that will move through the next hour. farther to the north, another wave is developing in parts of northwestern wisconsin going to swing into chicago tomorrow morning and keep it dismal up until at least 11:00 or so. this area has pushed through chicago and some of the weather has been rather fussy today. there have been a number of severe weather reports, mostly hail reports, as you can see down through parts of central illinois ipin and up to parts of michigan and wisconsin. there's the forecast. first of all for tonight. skies mostly cloudy. no surprise there. passing showers. a shower is possible. i don't know where that shower is possible in spots toward means. but in a apparently snuck in from a previous forecast. low temperature, 41 to 49 degrees. then, for tomorrow, we're expecting some early clearing by

we've got two days here in which we're going to see mostly cloudy skies to start with, showers and thunderstorms possible in the morning hours excuse me on saturday with the high temperature in the 50s. then a little bit cooler on sunday. the winds will diminish. saturday we're looking at winds at 12 to 22 miles per hour. they could occasionally gust as high as 30. that will accompany the rain when it comes to the area. >> a mess. >> doesn't look like a pretty morning at all. it will slowly clear i'm thinking, by later on tonight. then sunday, not bad at all. but you can see the rest of the week has a lot to say for it. temperatures not at all uncomfortable. a couple of days with the chance of showers and thunderstorms. temperatures moderately cool. >> pretty good fall temperature? >> nice for football. >> northwestern home 4-0. >> wouldn't want to play baseball. but football is good. >> 54 and sunny.
