>> few details coming from police at this point. what we know: the suspect is in custody in jacksonville. the victim is from north suburban, lake villa... and, his family is just trying to understand how this trip went horribly wrong. william christopher pettry --was known as chris. he was 42 years old. married. a father of three. he worked in construction. and, he was a bears superfan...making the trip down to jacksonville, florida with his best friend.. so excited to see the bears play the jaguars. but he never made it to today's game. early this morning...pettry was at a bar - finn mcccool's- at the jacksonville landing... near the hotel where he was staying. the same hotel where the bears players were staying. police say pettry was involved in some type of disturbance with two other people inside the bar... and one of them fatally stabbed him. that suspect -- police say-- is 28 year old matthew hinson. a jacksonville resident, he was taken into custody at the scene. what led up to the incident remains unclear..

what is clear - relatives tell us, pettry was not the type of person to stir up trouble or provoke anyone. "he was such a good natured...he was never a person to cause trouble... it's unbelievable " pettry's wife -- karen -- sharing her grief on facebook, saying: some idiot has taken his life. im so mad, just don't understand why, very lost right now. please hug the...ones you love because you never know if tomorrow you will have that chance. the investigation in jacksonville is ongoing. we're hoping to learn more when the sheriff's office hold a news conference there, tomorrow.

a chicago police officer who had just finished his shift this afternoon, became involved in a shooting on the south side. the officer, who was nearby, observed two women being shot inside thier car at a gas station in the 99-hundred block of south vincennes. the women managed to drive away... the officer, then, chased the suspects to the 98- hundred block of south throop street, where one of the men opened fire. the officer shot back. neither the police officer nor the suspects were hit. one man was arrested... police are searching for the other suspect. the women are listed in critical condition. >> police are looking for the driver involved in a hit and run that injured two people. it happened after a fight outside a bar early this morning. paramedics took the victims and to northwestern memorial hospital. one of them in critical condition. police do not have a description of the car >> hundreds of chicago firefighters gathered at the

funeral home this evening to pay their respects. he was a 20 year veteran of the department who died this week from west nile virus. his co-workers and family were shocked by his sudden death. he was 58 years old and contract the virus and about two weeks ago in wisconsin. he died thursday after coming down with flu-like symptoms. the funeral services will be held tomorrow >> the number of people sickened with fungal meningitis from tainted steroid injections has now risen to 91... seven of those people have died. the c.d.c. says that number could go up... since there is no way to know how many people recieved the epidural steroid injections. patients received the shots to treat back pain-- from a massachussettes manufacturer. the company has now recalled all its products currently in circulation. about two-hundred chicago-area patients may have received the injections but so far, there are no reports of any of those

negotiations continue in evergreen park, where after several meetings, public school teachers remain on strike supporters gathered outside as the teachers union and district 124 school board members met for several hours today. both sides exchanged counter proposals. the board is providing more information on the proposals on its website at w-w-w dot d-1-2-4 dot org. >> these students deserve to be educated by a quality staff... on the entire school year. anything less would be unacceptable >> residents will get their stay at a community meeting scheduled for tomorrow night. teachers

have been on strike since tuesday. the two sides are fighting over pay and a proposal to offer teachers bonus is based on student test scores >> republican vice presidential candidate paul ryan was in the town briefly for a fund-raising event. he and his family arrived this morning. the fund-raiser was heldhe told the audience president obama is trying to confuse the voters and is distorting mitt romney's record. tickets range from 2500 to nearly $76,000 per person. they say about 260 people attended >> outside the hotel dozens of protesters gathered to demonstrate against the republican agenda.

since nasa retired its shuttle program it's been a little quieter at cape caneveral... but not tonight. ".. and lift off" a "private" space company launched a rocket carrying an unmanned dragon cargo capsule. it's carrying supplies to the international space station... including freezers and real ice cream for the astronauts. the capsule rendezvoused with the station during a test flight last may...but nasa considers this its first official flight. the commercial spaceflight company, "space x" has a contract for a dozen such flights. venezuelans are waiting to find out if they'll have a new president for the first time in over a decade. leftist president hugo chavez
