getting back at her husband. the seven year-old victim was stabbed 100 times. the five girl was stabbed 50 times. both of them had their throats slashed. there were told they were about to go to heaven. >> she told them multiple stories about the deaths of the two children in her care on tuesday. there were too many inconsistencies. she shook her head a few times and she heard the accusations against her. both children on the extent to death tuesday night. at one point she told police that just an and the five year-old had evil inside of them and she needed to drive the devil out. according to prosecutors she had both children kneel down to pray.

mother's arms by a storm surge on staten island. ten thousand army air and national guard troops have been put on duty in 13 states. people left with waterlogged homes and damaged businesses across the eastern seaboard say they're getting through, day by day. more than 700 patients had to be evacuated from new york's belleview hospital after sandy knocked out the hospital's power.. and flooding wiped out basement fuel pumps that power its generators. national guard troops carried some patients down more than a dozen flights of stairs to get them out. president obama and new jersey governor chris christie toured damaged areas of new jersey yesterday. the two put political differences aside to do what is right for victims of superstorm sandy. they walked through one of the hardest hit neighborhoods and visited a shelter. the federal communications you're

strips yesterday to charge their phones. sandy's blow to mobile phone sites from virgina to massachusetts gives fresh impetus for federal requirements that wireless networks have backup power systems. phone companies went to court and blocked backup power rules proposed after hurricane katrina. a fomer f-c-c executive tells bloomberg news, sandy may get washington moving on this again. the new c-e-o of chicago public schools has exactly one month, by law, to announce which schools will be shut-down or consolidated. the city has 681 schools. barbara byrd-bennett says 40 percent of them are under- utilized, and 20 percent are more than half empty. she believes it's key to listen to parents during the process of choosing which schools to close or combine. the chicago teachers' union says it's skeptical, but hopeful, c- p-s will listen to the community. some parents and community leaders are upset about a plan to convert a northwest side middle school into a marine academy. alderman roberto maldonado is proposing to convert ames middle school in logan square into a marine academy for seventh through 12-graders. the proposal would make ames the first military middle school in chicago and first neighborhood school to go military. it means students would have to wear the marine uniform to go to their neighborhood school. opponents accuse maldonado of trying to bypass public input.

by 4-3 vote the illinois sports facilities authority has elected kelly craft ceo of the board. it owns and operates u.s. cellular field. ferguson was mayor emanuel chilis. 's choice. digital billboards up to 100 feet tall could start popping up all over chicago neighborhoods. mayor emanuel has introduced a plan that would allow outdoor advertising companies to build

from danger. the chicago fire department should be as diverse as the city it defense. there were 24 members were not here today. 22 of them still have to finish up a few more tests. that is expected to happen within the next few months. two others are sidelined with non-related injuries. >>penn state's former president will be charged today in the jerry sandusky child sex abuse scandal. according to the pittsburgh post-gazette, graham spanier will face charges for perjury and obstruction of justice. spanier resigned last year after sandusky was charged. in grand jury testimony, spanier denied being aware of sanduskys abuse. however, in a report commissioned by penn state spanier makes a reference to an incident where sandusky was caught in the shower with a child. jerry sandusky has been transferred to a maximum-

security prison in pennsylvania. he was moved to the "state correctional institution" yesterday. prison officials say the high- profile nature of his case makes him vulnerable, so he will be in protective custody during his time there. sandusky will be confined to his cell for up to 23 hours a day. he's serving a 30-to-60 year sentence, after he was convicted of 45 counts of sexual abuse. his attorneys are appealing. a surfer who survived a shark attack is talking about it. scott stephens was surfing off the northern california coast tuesday when he was attacked. experts say they think it was a young, great white shark. stephens has a 14-inch shark bite and several other tears to his body. he says the shark came out of nowhere and he just remembers it grabbing him and pulling him down. >>i punched the shark a couple of times until it released me.

states of wisconsin, nevada, colorado and ohio. republican mitt romney is making three campaign stops in the swing state of virginia today. he told supporters the country's economic troubles will not improve under another term with president obama. congressman jesse jackson junior will not be released from the mayo clinic before election day. jackson has already voted by absentee ballot and has no plans for a public appearance on election night. jackson was recently re-admitted to the clinic for treatment of bi-polar disorder. he also suffers from gastro- intestinal problems. he has not campaigned since taking a medical leave of absence in june.
