while firefighters searched rest of the building. it was an intense fire but mainly the smoke that caused all the problems. within minutes the fire was elevated to a 311. some did not get down the stairs. based on their balcony is to escape the smoke. we were able to get up there and come down. the other words there was not a need to take them into the smoke-filled hallways. had a pretty good handle on the situation. there is no p a system and the rest so residents may have been confused about what to do. i saw clouds of

warming center. officials hope to keep everyone safe. especially seniors and children. doctors say if you need to go out watched for signs of hypothermia. a death of a north chicago man while on police custody has been ruled a homicide. 45-year-old darrin hanna died in november, 2011. demonstrators marched in suburban north chicago today. remembering a man who died a week after a physical struggle with police in november of last year. the demonstrators were demanding justice for the death of 45-year old darrin hanna. authorities said earlier this year that seven police officerrs "acted reasonably and appropriately" to subdue hanna. who they said was combative when they went to his home after reports he was beating a pregnant woman. a lake county coroner's report ruled hanna died of several factors. which included his on- going health problems as well as taser shocks from police. his family filed a wrongful death suit against the city of north chicago and some of the police officers. president obama's second term is well underway but he still has a few inaugural-related events today. this morning, the president and first lady michelle obama attended the post-inaugural prayer service at the national

changed her hit song, "girl on fire" to "obama's on fire." actor jamie foxx sang "i can't stop loving you" by ray charles as vice president biden and his wife shared their first dance. tense moments on icy lake michigan this morning. as rescue crews tried to reach a dog that was stranded on the ice for hours. drivers first spotted the black dog along south lake shore drive in jackson park harbor and called 9-1-1. police, firefighters and animal rescue crews all showed up. the dog apparently walked out on the frozen lake. rescuers feared the dog would fall in through a thin patch of ice. they finally were able to shoot it with a tranquilizer and rescue the animal. one of our guys went out to grab him. when he passed a tried to

house lawmakers may vote as soon as tomorrow to suspend the u-s debt limit for another four months. the current debt ceiling is 16 - point -four trillion dollars. that's how much the government is authorized to borrow. the treasury department expects to exhaust that authority sometime between mid-february and early march. house republican leaders want to suspend the debt limit through may 19th and focus on other fiscal issues. including the automatic spending cuts due to go into effect on march first. investigators from the national transportation safety boaqrd

riding program. a program near and dear to her heart. we caught up with gabriella cooperman last fall when the weather was perfect for her 7th annual cookies for charity fundraiser. its a lemondade stand on steroids. >>on this warm september afternoon last year, 12 year old gabriella cooperman, with her bffs at her side, held her 7th 'cookies for charity' fundraiser on a corner in highland park. >>ive raised $8600 so far and im hoping to meet my goal of $9600 >>its not your typical lemonade stand. gabriella felt, she felt that selling lemonade was not enough, because everyone sells lemonade, she was like, what can i do to make my lemonade stand different? and thats when the cookies for charity came about. >>and heath bart crunch chocolate chip cookies which have toffee in them, which are 2 for one, or 3 for five. >>yep, every year, since she was five. gabriella has asked her friends to help her sell lemonade and cookies courtesy of mom, to raise money for 'equestrian connection' in lake forest. a stable filled with about 300 therapy horses. its a special place for children and adults with a wide range of disabilities. they come here for comfort and therapy. >> we are going to try a couple of up downs. it is where her its where her disabled sister, danielle gained the courage and strength to walk with the help of mj, her therapy horse. >>im doing this because, when i saw the difference in my little sister danielle, i knew that equestrian conncetion was positively magical. and then when i found out there were kids who needed this therapy but couldnt afford it, i knew i had to help. >>so aside from sponsoring danielles horse mj, shes also

hours. zero heartburn. on the medical watch diagnoses of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are on the rise. researchers analyzed medical records on more than 800 thousand children in southern california. they report a-d-h-d diagnoses increase by 24 percent during the decade ending in 2010. the study also found boys were three times more likely to be diagnosed than girls. several a-d-h-d experts question the study's methods and validity. including university of chicago psychologist benjamin lahey, who says the study may raise concerns that are not justified. long-term use of aspirin may slightly increase your risk of developing the eye disease known as macular degeneration. researchers followed more than 23 hundred people. including some who took aspirin once a week or more. after 15 years, about one
