they are recording judges and witnesses >> a cellphone and electronics a ban inside the cook county criminal courts building starts tomorrow morning. >> good evening >> alive in the newsroom with tonight's top story >> starting tomorrow the court is asking people to leave it there cellphone at home. the ban is about protecting justice >> starting monday if you are coming to the cook county courthouse, you'll have to check your cell phone at the door or as circuit chief justice timothy evans would prefer, just leave it at home. "please leave it at home, let justice prevail this way." evans says the ban is necessary to stop courtroom intimidation. he says people are misusing their phones to record judges,

jurors and witnesses. "they are taking photographs of witnesses attempting to intimidate them to convince them that this no snitch rule thats occuring on a day by day basis outside should apply in the courtroom. "we will not tolerate that." some people are exempt from the ban like judges, attorneys and those serving jury duty. the court will have lockers for rent to store your phone, but there will be a limited number, which means if you don't leave your phone at home you'll be turned away. "we know that it's going to be an inconvenience for people that's why we've tried our best to get the word around please do not bring your phone to the courthouse." the ban also applies to other electronics. someone call with cellphone in court could it be held in contempt. kit used to

this idea because this is a ban that will likely be implemented at other courthouse is in the county >> police are investigating two shootings that occurred this afternoon in chicago that injured four people. three men were hospitalized after a shooting. two men were shot in the chest and another was hit in the leg. there were listed in serious to critical condition but all have since been upgraded and stabilized. in another shooting of 16 year-old boy was hit in the leg >> a chicago man is accused of smothering his five month old daughter to stop her crying, leaving her brain-dead e and on life support. investigators say the 29 year-old put his hand over the mouth of the baby as a cried while he drank with his girlfriend, the mother of the

child. police believe she looked on as he smothered the baby three different times. both are charged with aggravated battery and they're being held in lieu of $5 million bond >> chicago police have no suspects in custody in a weekend shooting that killed and 19 year-old man on the northwest side >> he was weeks away from prom in from graduating from high school. today, the grandmother of the 19 year-old is planning his funeral >> he wanted to graduate so bad. he wanted to finally graduate and get himself together >> he was shot in the head and killed while in the passenger seat of a car stopped at a red light.

brown, the girls and on custodial mother, coerced the child into her car. they thought she was headed to chicago. the dallas and indianapolis officers of the fbi worked with local police departments to track down the suv and recovered a girl. brown was arrested >> 8 people were injured in a multi car crash involving a cta bus. it happened around 530 this morning. a minivan and the car slammed into the bus. police had no details on what caused the crash. six of the eight injuries included passengers on the bus and the bus driver. all were taken to area hospitals in fair to serious condition >> today was the last day caribou coffee shops across the chicago area were open for business. the viennese company that owns caribou is closing 80 under- performing stores in chicago and elsewhere. the company's other 88 locations will be converted to "peet's
