couple of flights were grounded this morning. dina and steve, everywhere you look you see evidence of heightened security in the wake of yesterday's bombings. we've also seen a ground stop here this morning. a temporary flight restriction over boston and at least two planes held, with passengers and their luggage removed. one of those flights was bound for chicago. in that case, united airlines flight 636 landed at ohare a couple of hours late. the airline says the crew asked that customers and their bags be rescreened and that ultimately a couple of passengers were removed. that's all the information we have but it appears to be a case of using an abundance of caution. that's just fine with air travelers we've been talking to..marathoners from chicagoland heading home, still processing what they witnessed yesterday.

logan international airport. there's been limited information on the people who were killed. only one of them has been identified. this is eight year old martin richard. he was killed near the finish line. the boston globe reports he was with his mother and sister at the time of the explosion. they were waiting for richard's father to finish the race. the boy's mother and sister are both recovering after they suffered serious injuries. the mother needed brain surgery, and the sister lost a leg. police say more than 170 injuries have been recorded at hospitals in boston and other areas. at least 17 are in critical condition and doctors say several of the cases include amputations. it appears the bombs were packed with objects designed to kill or hurt as many people as possible. and there are stories of chaos,

a 5-month-old girl has died, four days after police say her father smothered her to stop her crying, as her mother looked on. angelina rodriguez was declared dead at lurie children's hospital on monday afternoon. angelina's parents, rigoberto rodriguez and angela petrov are charged with aggravated battery to a child.

bond was set at five million dollars each. d-c-f-s reports an abuse allegation was made against the couple in january. the will county coroner confirms, a body pulled from the des plaines river in channahon saturday, is that of jeanie parker of joliet. the 54-year-old was choked, then stabbed to death last month, and her body dumped in the river. police say parker's son charles mc-cullum junior confessed to his mother's murder, though he pleaded not guilty to the crime last friday. jury selection begins today for the murders of three family more than 20 deaths are reported after a powerful earthquake today near the iran-pakistan border. the quake measured seven -point -eight.. and it was centered in the iranian town of khash. tremors were felt as far away as abu dhabi. reports from pakistan say 21 people have been killed and many more injured. radio pakistan reports 50 people were hurt in a roof collapse in karachi. iranian state media is reporting only five people injured in iran. the u-s geological survey says after-shocks can be expected for days or weeks following an earthquake of this magnitude. a u-s marine helicopter taking part in annual training exercises in south korea. made a hard landing today and then caught fire. officials say it happened 50- miles north of seoul. in a province that borders north

korea. you're looking at the same type of helicopter. the c-h-53-e super stallion. flying in south korea last week. 21-people were taken to a hospital at an american military base in south korea. six people remain hospitalized in stable condition. military officials are investigating what caused the accident. the joint military exercises between the u-s and south korea have upset north korea. which calls them tantamount to a declaration of war. meanwhile... the north is ratcheting up the rhetoric. saying it will not give notice before attacking south korea. the announcement comes one day after north koreans celebrated the birthday of their country's founder. kim il sung who launched the korean war. south korean officials say they will continue to closely monitor the north's military movements. another person in china has died from the new strain of bird flu known as h -7 -n -9. it brings the death toll from the bird flu outbreak to 14.

the latest victim is a 77-year- old woman who died on sunday. china says a total of 63 people have been infected with h -7 -n -9. including a seven-year-old child. the health ministry says there is still no indication of human-to-human transmission of the virus. a bi-partisan group of senators say they have an immigration plan which for the first time. stands and excellent chance of congressional approval. lawmakers say the agreement resolves outstanding issues including wages agricultural guest worker visas and protections for u-s workers. opponents warn american workers will see their wages erode in the face of greater competition from migrants. a news conference scheduled for today to present the proposed legislation was cancelled out of respect to the bombing victims in boston. next how much carnival cruise lines will re-pay for the rescue of its disabled ships. and, still to come this midday: a new report about the yearly cost of owning a car. and later in lunchbreak: deviled

marathon bombing has implications for security at the funeral of former prime minister margaret thatcher. scotland yard says four thousand police officers will be deployed during tomorrow's funeral with an officer visible every few yards of the procession route. it means london will in effect be on lockdown for the funeral. the casket will carried by a horse-drawn carriage to st. paul's cathedral. where more than two thousand guests have been invited for the funeral. the u-s delegation will be led by two former secretaries of state. james baker and george shultz. across the commonwealth of virginia. people observed a moment of silence this morning in memory of the victims of the virginia tech massacre that happened six years ago today. on april 16th, 2007 a 23-year- old college student went on a shooting rampage on the virginia tech campus. the gunman killed 32 victims and then took his own life. today, friends and families of the virginia tech victims stood outside the u-s capitol building with families and survivors of the tuscon, aurora and newtown massacres. they're demanding action from congress on gun legislation. cook county forest preserve
