voting law and north carolina has already been hit with a lawsuit. the governor signed a bill yesterday that requires voters to show a valid id at the polls. it also reduces the schedule for early voting and bars people from registering to vote on election day. the american civil liberties union is among the groups challenging the law. opponents argue that it hurts minorities and young and the poor while supporters say it cracks down on voter fraud and standardizes the elections across the state. a federal judge throws out a racial discrimination claim made against paula dean, the food network and other business partners of drop her after acknowledging she used a racial slur in the blast. a former employee filed a lawsuit that claimed she was subjected to sexual harassment and racist attitudes while working at

california in 2011. his lawyer is vowing to appeal the convictions, the biological father of a native american tribe was arrested last night after ignoring a court order to return the girl to her adoptive parents. the highly publicized custody battle began in 2009. baby veronica was given up for adoption by her biological mother. shortly after the baby was born her biological father regained custody under the indian child welfare act in june the supreme court ruled in favor of the adoptive parents. the father refuses to give the girl back to them. he was arrested last night near his home in oklahoma but he posted bond and no one is quite sure where he and his daughter are today. >> tom has your forecast right after the break. hey linda!

>> we are lucky. thomas here with great pictures of the meteor shower >> over the years we have seen the work of this photographer david mayhew, now out in denver but he was on the north side of colorado shooting is over the weekend. you're looking at the meteor's in the foreground and in the distance there's a colorado thunderstorm flashing light and in this time exposure. that's a great shot. thanks to david mayhew of northern california. and in traverse city mich., this under storm was about ready to unleash a microburst. there's some deck chairs and the foreground and a water filled inflatable trampoline was sent airborne by the gusts from that storm off up the bay right there and check out this

tunnel clout closer to home this was out for the del webb and at 2:45 p.m., chris sent us this shot of a funnel cloud this is yesterday afternoon from one of the thunderstorms and in st. petersburg fla. david shows as a thunderstorm with a rain shaft out of the gulf of mexico. that's a beautiful shot. and that john shot this at lasalle and jackson. it's a little rainbow but he pointed out that there's a pot at the end of the rainbow, that would put at the border. isn't that corporate? in indiana shot at this walk out on the way home yesterday. lookit that thing. and brad this shot is of two commercial jetliners. if you want some perspective on how big these cumulus clouds are, look at the little planes in the foreground. they look close together. they actually weren't but

how big the cloud is that they are avoiding. i had a commercial airline pilot right on facebook that they are encouraged as pilots stay 20 mi. away from the state of thunderstorms whenever possible because you get a lot of turbulence. turbulence is not what we have today. unless you are swimming. there are advisories for swimmers who may encounter riptides. you want to be careful of that but those northeast winds deliver september like weather in august and we have a high of 71 today equaling the normal high on september 25th. so this unusual weather continues. something else that's interesting, 34 percent of the jaydays since june, we had northeast winds. these other ones that run down the length of the lake and are cool by the time they arrive and so that one of the

reasons we've had such a cool summer. here's the other. unseasonably warm air in the arctic regions of north america brings the jet stream north and it died south and this brings canadian air masses into our area. this is a pattern that undergoes some rather substantial changes in the next week. you can see by late in the week the flow comes in from the northwest but it is not reaching the arctic. we will extend our q 27 days. you see the cool air mass in place here. thursday we are stepping through time, and friday modest warming and warm air in this purple and red area and expand eastward. the jet stream indicated by the lines here blows from west to east instead of in from canada. that's warmer weather if that works out and you see it in the predicted temperatures. the next five days will be about five below normal. the 6-10 day periods will

25th. the water will be warmer than the air today. 73 at indiana dunes. some of the other beaches from here to lake forest. all in the low seventies. by the way, the lake level is 4 in. higher than a year ago so it's back up again and despite that it's been fairly dry around here. here's our high pressure coming over as the ones that are gusting and northeast today will comincome down a great deal. the high will meander around here. the southerly winds will begin to develop. there are a advisories for gusts of wind and rip currents around the lake. small craft advisories in the pink areas. flood watches, this cool air mass coming in and out west there's the threat of wildfires in that area out in idaho but the
