lost or stolen guns...to law enforcement..within 72 hours and...starting on january first -private parties who sell or transfer firearms must confirm with illinois state police that the buyer holds a valid firearm owner's identification card. "we need to have background checks...wrong people and that if lost and stolen the owner reports immediately within 72 hours." " we're closing a loophole that can deter some of the gun traffickers from transferring guns to people that we know, we know will do harm to others." handling the requests to verify foid cards -- is the responsibility of illinois state police. director hiram grau says the agency is increasing staffing and resources...for that part of the law that kicks in next year.

south side churches and schools is prompting police to issue a burglary alert for the area. just this month at least six spots in the back of the yards neighborhood were hit. thieves force their way into the buildings at various times of the day and have stolen property. they say that you should keep doors and windows and secured and report any suspicious activity immediately >> in logan square today budget cuts to chicago public schools and sparked calls for the mayor to change his priorities when it comes to funding. logan square community groups along with the local school councils parents and teachers criticized the mayor's refusal to use the surplus tax increment financing or tif funds for the school's.

they charged the mayor is using the surplus funds for corporate welfare >> the mayor insists tif financing will not in school budget problems. he looks to pension reform legislation in springfield as the answer >> the governor has until tomorrow to sign a bill increasing the speed limit on some rural illinois highways. legislature sent a bill to the governor back in may raising the limit to 70 mi. per hour. 34 other states including most of illinois neighbors already have that speed limit. proponents say the increase will help the trucking industry. opponents warn it would lead to increased fatalities. the governor has not indicated which way he will go

welcome to instant replay... i'm rich king... starlin castro was back in the lineup for the cubs today... but his fielding gaffe in yesterdays game.... seemed to cast an ugly glow to the weekend. adam wainright made the cubs bats look lethargic... the cardinals winning the series.. taking two of three at wrigley. the cubs have now lost 6 of their last 7 games. even small kids were in a nasty mood....the cards led 1-nothing in the 2nd against edwin jackson when matt carpenter comes through with a huge hit... he rips a shot up the middle with the bases juiced..two runs score....and it was 3- nothing...a junior lake error did not helt the cause... anthony rizzo however did flash some leather....yadier molina a foul pop to first.. and rizzo never gives up.
