attorneys attribute that sharp rise in price to partly from the york buyers who bought up medallions in chicago because prices were rising in new york. starting next week chicago isstarting next week, chicago is medallion auction in 3 years. the investment for a medallion...is at least 360,000 dollars. but some people are wondering if its worth it. 'it's not fair for the cab drivers. it means the cab driver cannot own a medallion.' in 2010 the going rate for a city of chicago taxi medallion was 256-thousand dollars. this time around bids start at 360,000. 50 medallions that were returned or confiscated are going up for auction, expected to bring in more than 18 million dollars in revenue for the city of chicago.

elizabeth granoff, an attorney who represents medallion owners, says the skyrocketing market for taxi medallions could start to reverse because of the growing popularity of ride sharing appslike lyft and uber x. a lot of my clients have expressed concern about those types of applications and cars and medallions. our pay are concerned that the city of chicago is allowing those to be on the street. the owners of the taxicabs, and make the same amount of money we do. it is stealing business from the taxicabs. but the commissioner of chicago's department of business affairs and consumer protection insists a taxi cab medallion is still a sound investment. the department has a social media campaign encouraging consumers to take advantage of licensed chicago cabs.

there will always be cabs in the city of chicago and this is a cab town and it's part of the transportation infrastructure of any large city. and so yes,'it is worth it.' the auction runs for a monthfrom monday through october 18. details are posted online at cityofchicago.org/bacp. south 7 country club hills paying off a big debt. it's payback time for south suburban country club hills. the town is repaying 6-and-a-half- million accidently overpaid to it by the cook county treasurer's office. back in 2011, country club hills took out a short-term loan when the county was late returning tax revenue. the county paid off the loan, then mistakenly also sent that amount to the town. when the treasurer asked for it back, the money had already been spent. now a judge has approved the repayment in four installments by 2015. expensive mistake, but united airlines says it will pay the price. now some lucky travelers are cashing in on very deep discounted plane tickets.

a man jumps into the lake to rescue his dog; emergency responders then rescuing the man. it all happened overnight. a man and his friend were playing with his dog at rogers park beach when the dog jumped into the lake. both men jumped in to save the dog. rough waves sucked the dog's owner out into the lake. his friend called 911. emergency responders finally rescued him 20-minutes later still clinging to a breaker wall. there were about five of us who'd dropped pulled amount. he was a bigger guy and we all pulled them out. 854 out wall. he was perched up a little bit and we had to pull mop. the rescued dog owner treated and released from the hospital. the dog also doing okay. a sad goodbye today to a toddler who was beaten to death, his body dumped in the des plaines river. pall bearers carried the tiny white casket of bryeon hunter from a southside church. mourners remembered how the

one-year-old loved to smile and dance. the child's mother and boyfriend are charged with killing him. police say he was beaten in their maywood home then dropped in the river. a volunteer searcher found him in may. the church pastor calls it heart-breaking. any time a baby is killed in a pilot way it always has an impact on people and i think that for it to not have an impact. that person would have to be highly desensitized to the things going on in our world. it took four months for dna tests to officially identify the boy. he was laid to rest at mount hope cemetery. for the first time this year, a person has died from west nile virus in illinois. the health department says an elderly resident from logan county got sick in august and has now died. also, southern illinois has its first human case. animal cases have been reported in 57 counties. health officials say you need to protect yourself against mosquito bites and possible west nile infection until the first hard frost.

'there were many bumps in the road along the way. he was in a coma for about a month.' 'they didnt think he was them all.' after spending nine months in a spinal cord unit and then a rehabilitation center, neal came home to his parents. fern and jerry golden have tirelessly cared for their son for the past 34 years, making sure his life is as full and active as possible. jerry golden: "first thing hell say in the morning is, are we going out today, are we getting out of the house?'" 'he likes to go to different places.' like to a blackhawks or bulls game. he went to 45 last season. but theres no place hed rather go than to a concert. over the years, hes made it to more than a few.

report. to classmates at the same charter school shot within 24 hours. a 14 year-old shot in the back last night and his mother said he was close to being crippled for life and now one of his classmates a 14 year-old and here at children's hospital after being shot in the knee. a quiet street turned into a crime scene in seconds with a fork year-old shot in the knee while visiting her grandparents at 79 and burned. she is fine. she got shot in hurt me at is broke and she will have surgery but other than that she is ok. they were leaving just before 5 when several young men were nearby acting suspiciously. she was saying something about why they have their hoodies on like that. but i didn't think anything of that. we kept walking and when we get past them they said blow, blow. and that is when the shooting started. the last seconds to shot in the

conway farms in lake forrest hosting its first bmw championship and it is now marked by history. jim furyk became the sixth player ever to shoot a 59, and he becomes the only man to reach that magic number with a bogey on his card. it happened in round two. the 43-year-old veteran from pennsylvania began on the back nine at conway and lit it up early on a cool day. on the 15th hole, he holes it from the fairway for an eagle, his only one to go with 11 birdies.
