center on chicago's north side has been sitting vacant for more than a decade. the work of these could be planning the privacy of former patients. runs from our news room with a disturbing story. the extraordinary file situation inside of the old hospital building was stunning to see for a former employee who had been in charge of record. our investigation confirms that thousands of confidential records are still inside. the bankruptcy estate has asked the judge for permission to destroy the files. presidents and former employees could not know that 12 years after it shut down due to bankruptcy the facilities still houses thousands of medical files. this was part of the physical mess left behind just a few years ago. i obtained these photos from a 2009 visit by the state

health department. the visit prompted by a former neighborhood complaints. for much of that time as the record supervisor and the billing department. >> it is actually scary. i know every inch of the inside of the building. it was scary to see it like that. the file situation as outlined in a memo four years ago. the division chief says no further action was taken because the property manager for the bankruptcy estate agreed to address all issues of concern. the memo noted files on the floor. >> they are not the only trespassers

that have been inside. the building is hard to get into but it is not impossible. it describes what she saw just over a year ago. there is a whole room just filled with thousands of patient records. when you open up a file it said the patient's name date of birth, address, social security number. state law requires a secure attainment of medical firearmfiles for 10 years. community activists suspect that one of the files as is. he says trespassing remains a problem. still seeing people attempting to get in. a bankruptcy judge is set to hear the state's request for destruction of the record on october 2nd. it is not known how many files are still inside. in the
