the chicago area is under a flood watch. more wicked weather is on the way. we welcome our viewers watching us around the country. >> nancy lewis of roundthe flood watch means officials here are keeping a close eye on this. the level of a river. so far so good but the crews are working hard to keep it that way. >> public works crews have spent the last day clearing catch basins. to prevent flooding

from all of the rain water and melting snow. strategic sand bagging is in place in some areas. city agencies monitor the rising level of the river. an action plan will kick and when it hit 7 ft.. the level is nowhere near their right now. probably around 3-4 ft.. things could change quickly due to the forecast. >> tempters are getting above freezing. you do have some melting snow. there is a lot of snow. it is a big concern to us. we're keeping an eye on it. right now we're looking pretty good. >> baccy alive you concede all of that ice that is in the river right now. earlier this morning that was a solid sheet of ice. because of the rainfall it is all

breaking up and creating sort of an ice dam. that is an immediate concern right now. officials keeping a close eye on that. if it becomes a solid band that will create quite quite a flooding situation >> residents are keeping an eye on the water. >> this is an area that typically floods. as you can see still some ice that is on top of the river. it is coming up the banks but not too much. so far so good. pretty much the story is is that there is not any flooding going on that as of yet.

what we were hearing or expecting the worst has materialized. they were pretty slow going. at the very least bumper-to- bumper for 20-30 minutes. people making their way in and out of the city. the story being there really was not a lot of water on the road other than what was falling. it was getting away pretty quickly. i did talk to one gentleman who says about this time every year but especially because of the hard winter that we have had, he is ready to move down to florida. >> it is time to move to florida. >> i have a conversation with myself every year >> what are you going to do? >> florida would be something that many if not all of us

the shot. thank you for that. you're looking at one of the more fascinating. these are snow rollers. there were reported all across that area. these are balls of snow produced by wind blowing across freshly fallen snow. that kind of role. a kind of rolethey kind of roll. they go through a process of accretion picking up snow as they roll around. it is raining outside. this is the deal on michigan avenue. it has been coming down in buckets. the drainage has not been cleared. there are some issues there. here's our

satellite view of the storm. it is a walker. it will deepen from 900 millibars. that is a very low barometric pressure. it is going to lay down of an inch of rain with some indebted thunderstorms. we always make note of that. thunderstorms concentrate rainfall. some very heavy downpours in short periods of time. the isobars the close of their pact the stronger the wind. this thing is lifting no. word and deepening as it does. the air is rising with increasing fury. the air around it rushes in with increasing speed. these will become very much an issue once a cold front passes later today. they will

roar in here. gusting and 40-50 m.p.h.. there are high wind warnings in effect for the chicago area. flood watches in many locations. there's a blizzard in progress from iowa into northwest. these are all wind advisories. this storm is affecting a huge chunk of u.s. real estate. a moderate risk of severe weather up to the ohio river. a slight risk downstate. there might be tornadic thunderstorms. a little curl right here. the jet stream polks into this thing. you get kind of an arc. and is one well-developed storm. blizzard conditions on one

side severe weather on the other side. but at the radar. we put it into a three- dimensional lookmode. despite the fact it is midday. the rain is coming through in waves. one that produced a period of thunder snow. you can see the storms have a history of producing some lightning across the metro area. visibility's are down to fractions of a mile. you get som fog to form. pitchers are in the 30's are .itemperatures are in d we will cycle through these quickly. the storm

system will continue north through the afternoon and evening. the wind will become more and more a factor crossed the metro area. the satellite view of the storm. we've shown you the radar. it is going to rain through the afternoon and into the evening. late tonight we will go back to some snow showers. here are these wind gusts. i wanted to go through these. i wanted to show you the rain numbers. committee at over 100 percent. lookthe humidity at over 4100%100 percent. that is the skyline buried in all of those clouds. rain will keep coming. that is 3:00 this afternoon. here's this evening about the time the cold front moved through.
