alley in bellwood overnight. it happened around 10-30 p-m in the 10 hundred block of bellwood. we'll bring your more information later this morning. our area will contend with high winds and more flooding today. judy wang is live in bolingbrook with more. >> we are at risk road along the east branch of the to page river. the page county storm management agency is keeping a close eye on the situation because the river is expected to reach flood stage this morning. we tried to find a way to show you the water level. it is extremely high. some of the trees are in the way. we hope to bring video. the water level right now is at little more than 19 ft.. flood stage is 19 and a half. national weather service expects it to peak at 19.7 ft..

that is because of the rain that we got on thursday along with three consecutive days of snowmelt with the above freezing temperatures. also a flood warning in effect for the disciplines river. it is currently at 7 ft. which is flood stage. it is expected to rise to 8 ft. this morning. snow and sunshine and rain and extreme wind. we've gotten it all. the wind may be to blame for a large panel of the glass shattering at macy's. it fell from the fourth floor of the building at about 9:00. no reports of any injuries. the chicago area remains under a high wind advisory period that lasts through the afternoon. wind gusts up to 45 mi. per hour is possible. along the east branch of the to page river once again this river is under a flood warning. expect it to

reach flood stage sometime this morning. >> whiile the chicago area contended with gusty winds and rain yesterday, a couple of *tornadoes churned up the ground downstate. no injuries were reported from these funnel clouds in chapin, just west of springfield. there was plenty of wind damage in mechanicsburg. and downstate highland took a pretty good hit, as well. and more than 30 thousand homes and businesses have lost their power. a winter storm brought blizzard conditions to minnesota. snow emergencies were declared in minneapolis and saint paul. parts of eastern minnesota got ten inches of snow. state troopers were kept busy yesterday with more than 170 snow-related highway crashes. and more than 30 thousand people lost their power last night, as high winds knocked down power lines. dense fog, high winds and high speeds combined in a 20-vehicle pileup on i-57 near peotone. a truck burst into flames from the force of impact. it happened in the northbound lanes near harlem avenue... and it completely shut down the highway in both directions for several hours. a woman who lives alongside the highway says, visibility was

so bad, she had to see the crash on t-v. >> you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. it was that bad. there were just siren's everywhere but you could not see lights or anything. >> ten people were sent to the hospital... but there were no life-threatening injuries. cleanup crews spent the evening reopening the southbound lanes, and the rest of the night getting the northbound lanes of i-57 ready for the morning rush. now for the latest in ukraine, where the country's president just announced a peace deal was reached. the deal came after all-night talks with the opposition and foreign ministers of germany, france, and poland. the opposition has not confirmed that an agreement exists. this comes after at least 75 people were killed during violent protests in kiev this week. over 40 were killed after the announcement of a truce. a few thousand people remain in independence square today, but there's no sign of any fighting. this crisis began when ukraine's president passed up a trade deal with the european

union, and went with russia instead. the streets of kiev may be peaceful, but this parliament session was not. proceedings stopped when talks turned into a brawl. lawmakers from presidential and oppositional factions are fighting over a bill that would allow the official use of the russian language. opponents say they want to preserve ukraine's independence from russia. an amber alert is over and a little boy is back home safe. authorities say five year old drake whitker was sleeping in the back seat of his mother's car, when it was carjacked in park ridge yesterday afternoon. the driver later dumped the car in an alley in skokie. a person who heard about the amber alert spotted the car and called police. the boy was still in his car seat in the back seat. authorities say the suspect took off on foot. the police chief in park ridge urged the suspect to turn himself him. a simple message to the offender. i would suggest you turn yourself in the it to the

police department. we will find you. >> the boy was unharmed. police are searching for the suspect. chicago police issued a community alert after someone tried to abduct a boy before school. it happened yesterday morning, on the 28-hundred block of west 53-rd street. a 12 year old boy was walking to school, when a man tried to lure him into his car. the suspect's description is vague, but his car is a small red vehicle with rust on the bottom of the doors. the former chicago police officer, charged with plotting a grisly murder and dismemberment, insists he never intended to carry out the plot. steve mandell took the witness stand, to deny that he planned to torture a suburban businessman to hand over his interest in a strip club operation... then kill him. confronted with the tools that prosecutors say he planned to use... and recordings of him discussing his gruesome mutilation plans... mandell insisted it was all an act. opening statements in the allan kustok murder trial begin this morning, even though one witness has testified. kustok is charged with killing his wife in their home in orland park in 2010.

the defense says anita kustok shot and killed herself. yesterday, a woman testified that she had an affair with kustok three months before his wife died. her testimony was videotaped before opening statements because she had to leave town. opening statements were delayed after the defense attorney fell in the parking lot and went to the hospital. donald harris is one of three men who face multiple charges in connection with a police chase that led to a shootout on two expressways earlier this week. the mug shots for barry hayes and a 16-year-old juvenile, have not been released. the men are each facing numerous charges including possession of a firearm, stolen vehicle and, assault of an officer. the youngest suspect is also charged with attempted murder. greasy gold wins a fourth at the team u-s-a women won silver and olympics. bronze in women's bobsled. the u-s women's hockey team lost to canada. today, the u-s faces canada in men's hockey semis for sunday's gold medal game. the u-s leads with 25 medals -- eight are gold. russia has 23. the netherlands has 22.

inside the knit american travel office. an office in california was holding a hearing to evict its former leader sherrie rhoades yesterday. police say rhoades opened fire on the crowd during that hearing. they say she started stabbing people with a knife when she ran out of bullets. two men and two women were killed. two others are in critical condition. police say they arrested rhoades with a knife in her hands. racial tensions between

hispanic and black inmates in an prison arizona sparked a brawl thursday. a spokesman for the state's department of corrections says fewer than 100 inmates were involved. 10 inmates were injured, and one still in critical condition. no prison guards were injured. the unit is expected to remain in lockdown "indefinitely," police in denver have dropped charges against a man they accused of breaking into a woman's home, and taking a "selfie" picture on her cellphone. when the woman discovered the photo earlier this month, she told police she didn't know the man in the picture... and she said he must somehow gotten into her home. but a closer look at the picture revealed different *curtains than hers. turns out, the photo was *sent to her cellphone by mistake... and there was no break-in. tell that to your husband ... >> biologist off the coast of georgia spotted a whale with a long fishing rope dragging behind it. researchers say the heavy duty fishing line was over 100 yards. crews managed to get close to the animal and cut most of the line, with the hope the rest will eventually fall out.

is lovely of here this morning with the wind whipping the snow around. it's hard to believe it was more like spring early in the week. we are in the page river greenway area. the river level is extremely high but not quite at flood stage. that will happen later this morning. this is the east branch of the page river. it is at about 19 ft.. flood stage is 19 and a half feet. the national weather service expects the level to peak at 19.7 ft. again this morning. that's because of thursday's rain fall combined with the snow melt during three consecutive days of above freezing temperatures. the national weather service also issued a flood warning for the displays river at riverside. it's already at flood stage and it's expected to reach 8 ft. this morning. another challenge, the fierce wind. look at what happened at macy's. a

but mandell denied that he planned to torture a suburban businessman to hand over his operation... then kill him. he insisted it was all an act. opening statements at the allan kustok murder trial begin this morning. yesterday the court recorded testimony from a woman who said she had an affair with kustok three months before his wife died. prosecutors say kustok killed his wife in 2010, because he was having multiple affairs. the defense says anita kustok shot and killed herself. former congressman mel reynolds' attorney will try to get a pornography charge tossed out. renyolds has been in custody in zimbabwe since monday. he's accused of possessing pornography and over staying his visa. yesterday his attorney wanted reynolds to admit breaking immigration laws, but he refused. today is a court date for the man accused of kidnapping and murdering a 10-year-old girl in missouri. and now, the mother of victim hailey owens is speaking out. hailey was pulled into a pickup truck near her home in springfield, as she went to visit a friend. police say her body was found

continues in several states. in arizona state legislature approved a bill to allow people to discriminate others in the name of religion. it's intended to protect religious freedom but upon say allows discrimination of the people. state lawmakers vetoed a similar bill in maine saying it would let employers refused to provide health coverage for certain services. the attorney general in oregon announced her office will not defend the state ban on gay marriage in court. >> a viral video has turned out to be a hoax. it's called a wolf in my hall. it was up loaded from the u.s. luge team. the descriptions that were shot inside her hotel when she saw

police arrested a man in australia who is accused of groping modern family star, sarah hyland. she and the rest of the show's cast are in the country filming an episode of their t-v show. hyland, who plays the oldest dunfey sibling on the sitcom, was posing with a fan when he touched her inappropriately. he was arrested at the scene and has been charged with indecent assault. kevin costner stars in the action thriller "3 days to kill". he plays a dying international spy who goes on one last mission that could save his life. dean says costner is a good actor... but this is such a bad script, and badly directed. he gives it a deans list "c minus." in the movie pompeii- it's a race against time.
