looking good. no major problems. it's so cold they did cancel the overnight construction. so it's an easy start today. no accident to report. if you are heading out early you are in good shape. >> people in kankanee county are dealing with the worst ice jams they've seen in the river in more than 30 years. county officials have closed warner bridge in manteno after ice jamming has created dangerous conditions. the logs of ice and snow are stacked high ... clogging up the kankakee river. with so much snow this winter, followed by a quick thaw, the main concern is flooding. if the ice breaks loose, it could send a surge of water, and possibly come onto the roadway. dozens of people stopped by warner bridge to take pictures. >> it usually the water is about 20 ft. below but this is mind blowing. >> the ice is so high it's at the bridge level. if it moves or shifts it could come on to the roads. we are concerned with people looking at it.

>> kankakee county officials say they checked with the u.s. army corps of engineers and there's little they can do to get the water moving. streets and sanitation crews in chicago will start clearing out "dibs" items today. under this long-time city tradition, people use everything from old chairs to crates to reserve parking spots. the understanding is ... you shovel the spot ... you claim it as yours. people who don't remove the items will lose them. ukraine president victor yanukovych is now a wanted man. an arrest warrant was issued for him and several other officials for the mass killings of civilians. parliament voted to oust yanukovych and appointed someone else to take over his job until new elections in may. but yanukovych says he's still in charge even though he tried fleeing the country, but he didn't have the right papers to do so. his exact location is not known, as his own party blames

him for recent casualties and financial debt. another crowd for ukraine gathered in chicago. this group held a vigil outside the ukrainian consulate for the people killed during the protests. more than 70 people were killed last week. but the streets calmed down after the government and the opposition reached a peace agreement on friday. the opposition wants ukraine to work closer with europe, instead of being linked to russia. an eagle scout from chicago has been given scouting's honor medal, for his actions during a shooting that killed one of his classmates. when lawrence sellers found himself and a friend under fire at harsh park last year, he shielded his friend with his own body, and took a bullet. the shooters killed classmate hadiya pendleton. she became a national symbol of chicago's runaway street violence. >> the incident itself was heart wrenching. but i am proud that he came out of this as a better person. his instincts kicked in.

i am very proud. >> lawrence says he just did what he needed to do. and he says, if more kids in chicago were involved in scouting, they would know right from wrong, better than they do now. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a man from saint charles in jailed after being charged with raping a hotel maid in chicago. dennis sluski is being held on 750 thousand dollars bond, after being charged with criminal sexual assault. police aren't naming the hotel, or the maid. but they say, she told them she knocked on the door of a guest's room... and that's when the man threw her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her. "twista" was found shot to death and lit on fire in a south side home. davy easterling was found dead on the bedroom floor in the 83 hundred block of south baker early friday morning. that same day "twista", who is from chicago, sent a tweet saying easterling had been missing for three days. police and bomb and arson units are now conducting an investigation.

two men face felony assault charges for their role in a shooting involving an off-duty police officer. police say rene bustamante and daniel delgado were causing problems at a restaurant on the northwest side. the officer identified himself and was reportedly escorting the men outside ... when one of them pulled a gun and pointed it at the officer. the officer drew his gun and fired, striking the man in the leg. both men got into a car and drove away, but were found by police. a two and a half million dollar bail was set for a second suspect in last month's shooting death of a store clerk in bensenville. tremayne davis was charged with murder, attempted armed robbery, and obstructing justice, in the death of hussein saghir. the shooter is still at large... police say, davis was his getaway driver. history was made in the national basketball association last night, when jason collins stepped onto the court for the brooklyn nets. ema lacey bordeaux reports, >> a groundbreaking debut when he took the floor for the

nasa's attempt to get a closer look inside the sun picked up the strongest solar flare its ever seen. solar flares are bursts of x- rays and light that stream out into space. no one knows what causes them to happen. nasa installed its *iris last summer, so it can look at how material and energy move through the sun's lower atmosphere. the iris was concentrating on an active region of the sun, when it spotted the strong flare. >> good morning. the sun was quite a few years ago. now it's picking up activity almost at a maximum activity. for us it does not mean warmer temperatures. i know you were hoping we could do that but we will see cold temperatures this week. high pressure comes in from the west it will do a good job of funneling in the cold air coming in from the north and the west. 18 degrees at pontiac municipal airport. peru at 16. in gary its

happened at a mall on long island, saturday. rescue crews felt the effects of the gas after they responded to a woman who collapsed. a restaurant was evacuated before its manager was found dead in the basement. investigators say they found a leak in the fuel pipe of the water heater. the restaurant didn't have a carbon monoxide detector. two men are in the hospital after falling from floats during a mardi gras parade. the men fell from separate floats within about an hour of each other last night. both are in stable condition. the city's parade ordinance requires each rider to wear a safety belt or harness. dozens of parades roll in new orleans for two weeks leading up to mardi gras. fat tuesday is may 4th. a road rage incident in nevada was caught on camera. it happened at a gas station in las vegas. a store clerk looked outside to see an elderly man lying on the ground with serious injuries to his legs. police say he got into an argument with another driver... and the other man ran him over, and drove away. witnesses say the other driver was in his 30's... and his car has california license plates. an airplane pilot in florida got quite the scare during a

stocks slipped friday as investors analyzed mixed signals about the health of the economy and corporate earnings. the dow dropped 29. the nasdaq and s-and-p fell about four points. streaming movies and t-v shows on netflix should get faster. netflix will now be able to connect directly to comcast's broadband network. it's the first deal that netflix has reached with an internet service provider. netflix had 33-million streaming subscribers in the u-s at the start of the year. at peak times, netflix traffic can eat up one-third of all u-s broadband network traffic. apple announced a security fix, after it was found that hackers might be able to see your private information. the patch for the *i-o-s devices prevents hackers from accessing e-mail, instant
