getting excited. a quick update. we have some lanes that are reduced between morgan. because of that serious crash on the drive north bound north bound is a block away to belmont because of an ongoing investigation. >>a girl was found dead in south suburban riverdale. police say someone reported finding the body near 140-th court and normal yesterday afternoon. cook county investigators say it was in a non-residential building. the girl's name and age were not released, but police say she's about the size of a toddler. an autopsy will happen today. traffic is moving again on lake shore drive - on chicago's north side after a nine-hour-long standoff with police came to an end late last night. judy wang is there live with the latest. >> please call this a complicated investigation involving multiple jurisdictions. they still have a

portion of north lakeshore drive still closed off as evidence technicians continue their work. just a few moments ago the total the car was pulled away. it ended 9:30 p.m. when the suspect was taken from here on a stretcher. police have not identified the man but georgia police identified him as a man wanted in connection with his wife's murder. this is what it looks like on north the lakeshore drive sunday afternoon. the police pursuit ended with his car crashing. officers had guns drawn at the car also diverted traffic off park bench and south bound which were drive. this all started saturday when the man's wife was found dead in her home. on sunday police contacted harvey police about the suspect and the location of his car. he and his wife had lived in the chicago

area until seven months ago. police located the man and he was chased into the south side and eventually onto lake shore drive. negotiations for the surrender began. he refused to come out of his car for more than eight hours. >> during the pursuit he struck multiple vehicles including a chicago police vehicle occupied by officers. he also struck a civilian vehicle including a child. all were taken to the hospital not life-threatening injuries. >> says ultimately police used a discretionary device to get him to get out of his vehicle. the say he had lacerations on his body and they were possibly self inflicted. witnesses report shots fired but only as police, all they would say is that it was under investigation. >> president obama continues to

threaten russia with sanctions, after voters in crimea decided to break away from ukraine. crimea officials announced that about 97 percent of the vote supported joining russia. they say turnout was 83-percent, but non-russian speaking minorities boycotted the vote. the u-s and european nations say this was illegal and accuse accusing the russian military of seizing the area. but russia says it had the right to protect russian speakers from violent ukrainians. the white house says president obama urged russian president putin to seek a diplomatic solution, without military force. a new theory is emerging, ten days into the disappearance of a malaysian passenger jet. it's reported, the pilot -- the man on the left -- was a follower of a malaysian opposition leader who was convicted of sodomy friday. he may have even been in the courtroom for the verdict, just hours before his flight. and he may have commandeered the plane and shut off its communication systems, out of a belief that the opposition leader was framed.

published reports say there are more than 600 landing fields within the boeing 777's flight range that could accommodate the plane. and he may be holding the passengers hostage. police are holding a woman on ten million dollars bond, after charging her with the murder of an off-duty chicago police officer. calumet park police were chasing 31-year-old shanell terrell friday morning, when they say he van crashed into the car of officer david harris, at 87-th and lafayette. harris didn't survive. a passenger in terrell's van, solomon wyatt, is jailed on 50 thousand dollars bond for drug charges. terrell's father say the entire incident is wyatt's fault. >> her boyfriend was responsible she doesn't do drugs. she has three daughters should have been at home with them. >> police founr four pounds of marijuana in the van.

they say they saw wyatt throwing *bags out of the van after the crash. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. another person dies of cold related causes. the fifth year- old was found on responsive and apparently drunk near his home council costar avenue. he had alcohol intoxication and cold exposure as the cause of his death. >>a 16 year old boy faces charges after stabbing another teen in the neck for refusing to join a gang. it happened in the 27 hundred block of south homan avenue. group of males approached a 15 year old boy in an alley and hit him in the face as part of an attempt to recruit him. when he didn't agree to join, they stabbed him, stole his wallet and put him in a garbage dumpster. the younger boy is hospitalized in critical condition. a former n-f-l player was arrested at a nightclub in chicago. john moffitt is charged with drug possession and misdemeanor battery. prosecutors say he punched a man at the underground

nightclub early sunday morning. moffitt played for the seattle seahawks and the denver broncos until he quit in the middle of last season. prosecutors say he was caught with cocaine, marijuana, and ecstasy. the primary elections are tomorrow. polls will open at six a-m and close at seven p-m. this will be the first time 17- year olds can vote, if they're 18 by the general election. about 35-hundred 17 year olds are registered in chicago. the des plaines oasis, over the jane adams tollway has been closed for good. it shut down at 8 o'clock yesterday evening and will be torn down to make space to widen the tollway. the 7-eleven and the gas station will stay open. the oasis has been a popular rest stop for drivers since 19- 59. the parade made its way to the beverly neighborhood. 150,000 people lined the streets to enjoy the family fun. police officers were on hand to enforce the parades no drinking rule.

lines jet when it lost a piece of its wing in mid flight. flight 24-12 was en route from orlando to atlanta when the wing's access panel sheared off. and land without incident. inspectors will try to determine what made the wing panel come off. a man in florida is behind bars after going on a shooting and stabbing spree inside a restaurant while dressed like "rambo".

witnesses say daniel noble was drunk and belligerent inside a palm harbor bar - so he was escorted out saturday night. but he returned about 30 minutes later - dressed in camoflage fatigues - and carried an "uzi-style" gun. several customers confronted him and tried to stop him. noble was then attacked by the next thing you know i'm jumping on the gun and dropping the barrel. of just trying to hold it down to the ground. he gets off a few more shots. there was a lot of blood. a cutter my hand. >> he was then attacked by several witnesses and beaten unconscious. police arrested him. he was treated for minor injuries. noble is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault and battery. colorado is about to have a new law aimed to protect children from *edible marijuana products. colorado's governor will sign the bill into law today. it requires those products to be sold in non-transparent and child resistant containers. the purpose is to keep children

from eating the drug. colorado is the first state to legalize recreational marijuana. keep your eye on the building. now you see it... ... now you don't. this was the scene in des moines yesterday morning, as the former nurses college at iowa methodist medical center was imploded. it had been vacant since 1999. hospital officials say the property will be used for expansion eventually... but for now, it'll be converted to green space. a helicopter rescues stranded dog from a cliff in northern california. the dog's owner called for help when "oreo" was found stuck on a 2-foot ledge saturday afternoon. a deputy sheriff hanging from the bottom of a helicopter saved the labrador. using the dog's chest harness, they flew "oreo" to the top of the cliff within about three minutes. the dog has been reunited with its owner. an all i do for my chopper is to use and traffic got one out there sitting ducks. making itself useful. >> if you do that you have the

drive is back open. the suspect was taken to northwestern memorial hospital with lacerations on his body. police say possibly self inflicted. the georgia police identified the suspect as a man they're looking for in connection with his wife's murder in georgia about 30 mi. from atlanta. police still have a portion of pork belly dry closed off early this morning. a flatbed truck took himhis car away. this was the scene. a police pursuit of the vehicle ended near fulton with the car crashing. police pointed guns at the vehicle and diverted traffic on the north and southbound side. saturday, and his wife was found dead in her home. on sunday, ga. police contacted local police about his location. police chased him from harvey on to the dan ryan and then on to lake shore drive and that was the start of a standoff

officer david harris was on his way home, when the speeding van hit and killed him. the primary elections are tomorrow. polls will open at six a-m and close at seven p-m. this will be the first time 17- year olds can vote, if they're 18 by the general election. about 35-hundred 17 year olds are registered in chicago. more than a million people are expected to pack the street's of new york city today for the city's annual st. patrick's day parade. but it's who won't be there that's drawing attention. ed payne has the story. some big names are refusing to join in on the celebrations because gay and lesbian groups are not allowed to march openly. sunday guinness announced dropping sponsorship of the parade. the announcement came just days after another beer company said it was pulling support. the beer makers are not the only high-profile absences. last month the mayor and city council said it would boycott the parade. according to the new

he says he thought she was a burglar. last week's testimony focused on evidence left behind on the bathroom door and whether the crime scene was contaminated. an army general has reached a plea agreement in a sexual assault case. brigadier general jeffrey sinclair won't have to face sex charges. instead, he'll plead guilty to carrying on a three-year affair with the woman who accused him. he may also face charges of cruel maltreatment of subordinates. sinclair is due in court today, at fort bragg, north carolina. the white house is launching a march madness push to get people enrolled in obamacare. president obama's new campaign begins this week and is tied to the annual basketball bonanza. athletes and coaches will be part of the push to encourage americans to sign up for health care before the march 31-st deadline. those who don't sign up will pay a penalty. magic johnson, alonzo mourning and lebron james will help get the word out. basketball fans will be glued to their televisions sets this week as march madness gets underway. some of those fans will be

of the soda bottles. recycle the pop bottles. basically made out of 12 of those bottles. the grind them up and make the fibers of them. also the make wonderful toys out of the same product. i thought that was nice. as far as toys and accessories, another company is now making toys and leashes and colors out of recycled car tires. you concede that here >> and going to hold this up. >> really high quality callers the actually have a bottle opener on there which is pretty innovative. >> pretty appropriate for st. patrick's day. >> that is only about 10 or $15. i guess you could open the drink but is not a drink for your pets. they also make some great toys for them to chew on the other recycled tires. nice high

quality toys there is a squeaking noise in their. >> we have to move this along. you have earth friendly accessories? >> this is a bamboo brush. it's made out of wood, maybe that's not a great thing. but it's a highly renewable resource. something that again is something that is better than using timber and bamboo. >> you could use that brush as well. >> i always do need the help. what about food? >> we could not avoid this. don't feed your pet this. with could avoid talking about being environmentally friendly. cat litter, millions of tons of cat litter going to landfills every year. this is a biodegradable totally natural one made from plant material. and the last thing here for dog owners, you want to pick up after your pets. that's a very important thing to
