have potential for rain and snow. no big issue. temperatures will be cooler along the lake gusting up to nearly 30. wind is already sustained at 20. 43 in waukegan. 46 of the lakefront. 20 m.p.h. in bartlett. 24 in rockford. there is a disturbance moving through bringing as rain as a potential for lights know as well but it will be short- lived. the rest of the region and cold front out to the south expected a call weekend. a monster east coast storm down to the south. it should dominate our moisture. temperatures will warm up. 48 degrees today. tomorrows high temperature is

45. sunday is what i'm talking about. high temperature of 60. >> a few items to start with inbound dan ryan basically the exit ramp to the eisenhower has been blocked with ongoing construction. we do have some details there. in elgin we have a hazmat situation with has a exit shutdown. here there are 50 gal. of acid that have been spilled through there. not a lot of details but you will be able to get through there. work on 88 and jane addams but neither are causing many delays. in other news, a serious car accident overnight a blue island. the car crashes into a utility pole. this is just after midnight. two people trapped inside. they were rescued and taken to hospital. police say their injuries are not life-threatening. we don't know what led to the crash. >>

we are learning about and armed robbery in the west loop. reports that a pizza shop in the 600 block was robbed. people who robbed it may fit the description from earlier robbery of a 711 in the 2300 block of west lawrence. we will bring you more as we get it. >>a new lead has relocated the search for a missing malaysian passenger jet. for the past week the search has centered in the indian ocean, about 15 hundred miles west of perth, australia. but a new analysis of radar data, and the plane's speed and fuel consumption rate, suggests the plane went down, only *half as far from perth. the new search area is about 700 miles from where satellite images spotted a debris field. there has been no visual or physical confirmation that the debris belonged to the missing plane. rescue crews fear the number of

people killed by the landslide in washington state will rise later this morning. yesterday we reported that 25 people were killed. but the official toll is 17, even though crews located eight more victims. they will not be added to the total, until they're dug out and identified by the coroner. 90 people are still missing, as rescue workers continue to dig through several feet of mud and water that buried homes. no survivors have been found since saturday. work crews are in the final phase of getting the c-t-a's o'hare blue line terminal ready to reopen. monday's train wreck has been cleared away. judy wang is live at o'hare with an update. it's been a long week for them out there. >> it has been. the goal is to open the o'hare station sometime this weekend. until then, shuttle buses will run between rosemont and the airport. some writers say it has gone smoothly. but some of them admit that what happened remains in the back of their minds. crews

thursday removed the train in pieces. the cut up the cars and hold them away on flatbed trucks. next up, repairs to the track and the platform. the cta says the diriment did $6 million worth of damage. just before 3:00 a.m. the eight car train approaching a stop periled over a bumper on to the platform and up the escalator more than 30 writers and the train's operator were injured suffering from knee injuries, whiplash. the train's operator said to the investigators she dozed off right before the crash. apparently the second time she's done that in less than two months. authorities are looking for other problems like possibly mechanical but to blue line incidents in recent months some runners admit they are nervous. most say they are not worried at all. >> you don't even think about it? >> i try not to. but it's scary.

>> the ct a already faces five lawsuits filed by writers accused of the rail agency of negligence. back to you. >>b-p has increased its estimate of just how much oil leaked from its refinery in whiting into lake michigan. b-p first believed 18 barrels of crude seeped out due to an equipment malfunction. after analyzing how much oil was collected from the beach and absorbent booms in the water, the estimate more than doubled to 39 barrels .. or just over 16-hundred gallons. the e-p-a says the spill likely poses no long-term risks to the lake, wildlife or human health. a chicago department of transportation employee was injured after falling 15 feet while working on the randolph street bridge, over the chicago river. the worker was performing routine maintenance on the bearings that raise and lower the bridge, just before noon yesterday. he hit the ground, then rolled into a hole where the bridge's counter-balance weights are located.

>> it was a little hairy. you have to go under the open bridge we yid did stuff like this all the time when training. >> the man's injuries are not considered life-threatening. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. chicago police are investigating a funeral home on the west side after a hidden camera was found in a bathroom. employees discovered the camera on monday, at "smith and thomas funeral home" in the 57- hundred block of west madison. the receptionist tells w-g-n it's a unisex bathroom that's only used by employees. she also says the owner is conducting an internal investigation. the sun-time reports that the f-b-i, i-r-s and indiana state police raided the office of calumet township trustee mary elgin in gary. no word on what they were looking for, but the f-b-i told the newspaper that it was part of an ongoing investigation. elgin is in her third term in office. employees in the office at the

time were allowed to leave, if they wanted. there are still no charges in connection with a shooting at the home of chief keef's manager. the rapper, whose real name is keith cozart, was questioned by northfield police about the incident on wednesday. his attorney said chief keef was a passenger in the car that dropped the shooting victim off at the hospital, but that the rapper did not witness the shooting. the victim is in stable condition. immigrant rights activists staged a rally on chicago's federal plaza, to demand action on an immigration reform bill. some immigrants who come to america illegally -- or arrive legally but overstay their visas -- have *children once they're here. congressman luis gutierrez and his fellow activists say, *deporting those immigrants breaks up their families. more speed cameras will start issuing tickets this weekend, instead of warnings. the cameras near jefferson park, in the 54-hundred block of west higgins, will begin ticketing on sunday. initially, drivers will be ticketed if they are caught going ten or more miles over the speed limit.

then, that threshold will gradually be lowered. meanwhile, new cameras near francis xavier warde school, schaefer park and portage park will start issuing warnings over the next several days. house speaker michael madigan's proposed tax on millionaires was passed by committee and now goes to the house floor. a broader, graduated income tax system for all residents in illinois was rejected. madigan's proposal would impose an additional three percent tax on income over a million dollars a year. voters would have a say on the amendment to the state's constitution in the november general election. children who use a "safe passage" route to school could get free bus rides. the state house passed legislation last night that would pay for buses for students who have to walk through unsafe neighborhoods. supporters say more children have to do that because of last year's school closings. but opponents say the plan could cost as much as 61- million dollars. they say that could take money away from downstate school districts, where bus service has been reduced.

chicago public schools will be in session today. it's a makeup day for all the time lost over our brutal winter. the district used robocalls to remind teachers and students. the other makeup days for c-p- s are june 11th, 12th and 13th. a couple from downers grove spent a few frantic hours, looking for a lost lottery ticket. cathy and dave seiden won a million dollars in mega- millions this week, but misplaced their winning ticket. they won a million dollars in mega millions last week. they didn't know it was a winner until a friend told them there was a million dollar ticket sold at cathy's grocery store. so the couple tore their house apart, rummaging through papers, clothes, drawers and everything else... until the ticket finally showed up. they cashed it in yesterday. >> could for them. >> that's what happens with teamwork you become millionaires. >> they searched high and low and it was probably just on the kitchen counter where they never

in addition, the head of the air force's 341-st missile wing has given up his command. a hundred nuclear missile officers were found to have cheated on proficiency exams -- or covered up for *others who cheated -- at malmstrom air force base. the commanders were fired, for failing to provide adequate oversight of the exams. a newlywed bride gets a 30- year sentence for pushing her new husband off a cliff, killing him. jordan linn pleaded guilty to second degree murder in december. at that time she told the judge the fatal push in montana's glacier national park was a reckless act. in exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a first-degree murder charge and an obstruction of justice charge. an n-f-l player is offering a reward, after someone glued razor blades to playground equipment in western illinois. a 2-year-old boy was cut by the blades while playing on the monkey bars at a park in east moline monday. julian vandervelde, an offensive lineman for the

lansing 45. aurora is 42. look at the wind. it's one of those mornings were you need to hand on the steering wheel. we will have some pretty stiff wind. 12 mi. per hour in waukegan. o'hare read at 16. down to 20 in bartlett's. we do have a fairly stiff wind this morning. the rain continues across portions of the counties. it moves to the south and east. the computer models show the rain making its way back into cook county before the morning is done. as temperatures fall, snow comes through the region. nothing too heavy but there is potential for snow until 9:00. we will have high pressure off and on the sun and clouds but a monster storm is a forming in the ohio valley. we will watch this down to the south and east hear the good news is we will stay dry but big things are happening if you're traveling toward the east coast.

>> good morning pared shuttle buses continue running every few minutes here between the stop and o'hare. no complaints so far from writers this morning. the cta hopes to reopen the o'hare station sometime this weekend. the number of lawsuits the transit agency faces over monday's incident is now at five lawsuits. crews remove the blue line train thursday in pieces. the cut up the cars and hauled them away on flatbed trucks. the cta says the next step are repairs to the track, the platform and the staircase. the derailment happened just before 3 monday morning as the a car train approached the airport. the train barreled over a bumper, onto the platform and climbed the escalator. more than 30 people injured after getting thrown around in the train cars. ntsb says the operator told the investigators she dozed off just before the crash. cta disciplined her in february for doing the same thing and nearly going past a stop. some blue

plane. we were expecting to hear from oscar pistorius at his murder trial today, but now the case has been postponed. one of the two court assessors is now in the hospital. in south africa, the assessors help the judge decide the verdict since there are no jury's. the trial won't resume until april 7-th. pistorius will testify in his defense, but he won't be on camera. he is charged with murdering his girlfriend reeva steenkamp last year. he says the shooting was an accident because he thought she was a burglar hiding behind a bathroom door. it's been nearly a week since a landslide swallowed dozens of homes in washington state. the death toll is expected to rise again today. andrew spencer has more. >> no survivors have been found in days. this is still not a recovery operation. >> we are still in a rescue mode. there are a lot of people

month moody's investors service dropped the city's credit rating again, citing its growing pension debt. a deal to restructure the pensions could save the city billions of dollars, and bet its no one from the two unions will for fear that any leaks might put the deal in jeopardy. the city still has to renegotiate the pensions of its police and fire unions. president obama will arrive in saudi arabia this morning, which is the last stop of his trip overseas. yesterday, the president was in italy, where he faced questions there are reports that russia has thousands of troops gathering on the border, ready to invade. the u-s and europe imposed economic sanctions to get russia to withdraw, but military action does not appear to be an option. >> we will do what we can to support ukraine and the people. but i think it's also important for us to not promise and not be able to deliver. >>the president said yesterday's meeting with the pope focused on their shared

goal of tackling income inequality. he says he asked the pope to visit the u-s, but no date is set. former president jimmy carter was in town promoting his new book, days after he made news by saying he thinks the government spies on his communications. a standing room only crowd greeted president carter at the swedish museum in andersonville. his book is titled: "a call to action: women, religion, violence and power." last weekend, he told an interviewer if he wants privacy, he writes letters and mails them the old fashioned way. governor quinn's proposed budget would sharply increase education spending in illinois. the governor shared his plans with some of the state's youngest residents. quinn visited students at carl von linne elementary school in the avondale neighborhood. he stressed the importance of education as preparation for a successful career -- and talked about his plan to invest six billion dollars in education over the next five years. the governor says this would be the largest investment in education in illinois history. >> it includes early childhood and money for scholarships for

million were enrolled last week. the obama administration credits the last minute surge to celebrities who helped campaign on behalf of the program. this figure also exceeds the congressional budget office estimate of 6 million signing up in the first year. the deadline is monday. >>a russian spacecraft carrying three astronauts has finally docked at the international space station. two russians and one american blasted off wednesday for what was supposed to be a six hour flight. but an engine burn designed to fine-tune their path did not happen as planned, delaying the docking until last night. the astronauts will now stay in orbit for six months. they're not the only ones on a space mission. the field museum is sending microbes from "sue", the tyrannosaurus rex, into space. the microbes are among a set of 48 microbes scheduled to go to the international space station on sunday. they'll be launched into orbit on a rocket from the kennedy space center in florida. it's part of a project that
