>> not a lot on the roads just yet. we do have some lingering overnight construction. it should be picked up by 530. some work on the dan ryan squeezing things down by a few lines. we will break that down so you know what to expect. >>the investigation continues into what caused a soldier to go on a shooting rampage at fort hood. specialist ivan lopez shot and killed three people, wounded 16 more, before he killed himself. lopez had served in iraq, and he was being evaluated for post traumatic stress disorder. officials say he was never in combat or wounded, but he was being treated for depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. investigators say they're checking out an argument lopez may have had with another soldier just before the shootings. one of the people killed at fort hood was originally from downstate illinois. timothy owens was a native of effingham, which is south of champaign. he worked at fort hood as a counselor. his mother says she tried to check on her son when she heard

about the shooting. >> he didn't answer a phone. i left a message for him to call me. but never got a call. so i thought i don't let it be him. >>owens will be buried in lake spring, missouri. some breaking news in afghanistan ... two journalists working for the associated press were shot in southern afghanistan. a camera operator from germany was killed. the second journalist was from canada. an unidentified gunman opened fire while the team was with an independent election commission convoy in a rural area. the reason for the attack is unclear, but police have arrested the suspected shooter. elections in afghanistan are tomorrow. almost a month after a malaysian passenger jet vanished, the first *underwater search for the plane has begun. an australian ship and a british ship are searching a 150-mile strip of the indian ocean for signs of underwater wreckage, and faint "pings" from flight 370's black box flight recorders.

in all, nearly two dozens ships and planes are spending the day looking for any pieces of the plane. malaysian officials say they have yet to turn up any evidence that either the plane's pilot or co-pilot had a reason to commandeer and crash the plane. police in northwest indiana are investigating its hit list. the hit list was found friday by school officials. the list was naming students the wanted dead. officials located the list and notify the counselors and principal. the boys are in fourth grade and have been removed from class. >> this it to kids were kicked out of class for making a murder list. i was shocked. i could not believe it. no reason for that to be taken lightly especially with everything that has gone on in school. >> police say they are working together to keep them safe. >>

englewood neighborhood. 27-year-old anthony morris of jackson was attacked march 26-th near 70-th and vincennes. he died yesterday morning at christ medical center in oak lawn. the f-b-i is searching for a couple from east chicago, accused of robbing a bank and opening fire at police. jeremiah ellis and ashley patterson are believed to be hiding in the chicago area with their two children. police say the couple robbed a first merchants bank with guns drawn on saturday. at least three witnesses have identified ... even though they were wearing scarves over their faces. the couple took off in a chevy tahoe with nearly 10-thousand dollars. police in northfield have identified someone in the shooting at the home of rapper chief keef's manager ... and, they are now looking for him. a man was critically injured in the incident last week. the rapper, who's real name is keith cozart, was questioned ... but never charged. >> loyola university is warning students about a possible break- in at a dorm on the school's campus in rogers park. two students who live in a room at regis hall say their belongings were moved around, but the alert issued on wednesday did not say anything

was stolen. the students say the door was locked. chicago public schools officials are getting the word out that there are places children can go during spring break. it's a part of the city's expanded "safe haven" program. >> because of the brakes at school, we know what can happen. it's a time when our children need to be safe. they need an environment. i don't have that much to worry about because safe haven is available to our students. it means every child in the community has an opportunity to participate in the community for reading and math and educational. >>in addition to those activities, students will also get meals. there will be one-hundred "safe haven centers" throughout every neighborhood in chicago, mostly in churches and community centers. they will be open from eight in the morning, until two p-m. spring break begins the week of april 14th. and unveiling marks the finish of a transformation project. the

new terminal five has a spot, a restaurant, high end stores. the mayor said it will play an important role of reaching his goal of 55 million visitors to o'hare by 2020. >>drivers on the north and northwest sides have enjoyed a nine-month holiday from sunday parking fees... but that may end. mayor emanuel is asking the city council to turn the parking meter boxes back on, in lakeview, logan square, portage park, and the north end of lincoln park. store owners in those neighborhoods say, ever since the city declared that sunday parking is free, *shoppers can't find any street parking spaces. today is opening day for the cubs as they celebrate wrigley field's 100-th birthday. the stadium is now decorated with signs and banners declaring this "the party of the century." the year-long celebration will include the cubs wearing "throwback" uniforms from every decade. they'll also give away bobbleheads of hall of famers. the cubs will face one of their

anniversary of wrigley field... but it's also the 100-th anniversary for another piece of baseball history: cracker jack baseball cards. baseball card expert michael osacky of *baseball in the attic dot-com* tells us about five cubs players from that year. >> he won the world series in 1905. he was inducted into the hole fame in 1945. believe it or not, he played all nine positions over the course of his career. another great cubs player known for the spitball. he would have an emery board taped inside his pants leg. he would use it to his a vintage. jimmy archer was 19 in toronto working for a barrel maker and his arm caught fire and he was in the hospital for three months. he didn't know if he

u-s stocks retreated after hitting new records thursday. the dow, nasdaq, and s-and-p all finished in negative territory. sears is closing its state street flagship store on sunday. the store has lost millions of dollars and has performed poorly since it's been there. sears first opened the store in 2001, after an 18-year break from being downtown. chicago public schools is moving its headquarters into the building. as the mars rover looks for water on the red planet ... nasa says it's found some even farther away. scientists say they found an ocean below a thick layer of ice on one of saturn's moons. they say it has the volume of lake superior and has a rocky bottom. this discovery was made with data from the cassini spacecraft. the existence of water could mean that creatures once lived there ... or still do. like the loch ness monster maybe. i just made that up. >> you came up with that on your own? >> it had to go somewhere. >> allocate just keep shaking

alarm before 3:00 a.m. near rushed and walton. police cannot confirm what was taken or how much merchandise was stolen but the owner will do store inventory. thousands of dollars of purses have been reported to be taken by several men. >>city officials are expected to unveil the new international terminal five at o-hare airport today. judy wang joins us *live from o'hare with more. >> the mayor and senator dick durbin will be here for the unveiling. o'hare's international terminal has undergone a massive transformation. the goal is to give travelers who pass through here a first class experience. shopping mall developer partnered with the city on the project. the company video offers a glimpse of the renovation at a price tag of $26 million. travelers will find 18 new restaurants and retail shops in terminal 5. 11 have chicago ties. one is a mexican restaurant, the first new eatery

worth of heroin at the home of modesto alarcon tuesday. he was ordered held on 15 million dollars bond. two associates, juan fernandez and reyna garcia manzanares, were ordered held on a *half million dollars bond. they're accused of money laundering. a team of police officers and investigators executed a search warrant at a funeral home on chicago's west side, where a hidden camera was found in a bathroom. the camera was discovered at the "smith and thomas funeral home" by an employee last week. sources tell w-g-n, it appears the camera was connected to something else in the building. authorities were there for several hours yesterday. a woman who says she, and one of her children, have used the bathroom ... has filed a lawsuit. >> it was humiliating because things i don't want anybody to see. i don't know if they saw. it's the last place you would expect to see a camera. >> several women are involved in the lawsuit against the funeral home. its owner denies knowing anything about the secret surveillance, and says she is

now conducting her own investigation. judge is allowing a sexual abuse lawsuit, against united airlines, to move forward. seven men say they were sexually abused as children when they were part of the airline's mentoring program which included college scholarships. their attorney says they were abused for several years by mentor marvin lovett who promised them cash and gifts. police found videotape evidence of the abuse after lovett was murdered in 2000. united airlines ended the program without paying out the scholarships. the airline says its involvement did not condone the acts of one person in the program. part of the boston red sox championship celebration appears to be a commercial. on tuesday the red sox were celebrating the world series victory with the president. they took a picture which turned out to be a self picture. it was taken by phone made by samsung which happen to sign a deal with him. samsung said the picture up to its followers. the white house says the president does not want to

an 80 year old woman was bending over, near the candy, when a car comes crashing through the front of the store. the car misses her by a few inches and stops in the aisle right next to her. the woman only suffered a few bumps and bruises. police say the driver had just parking lot, before it hit the store. a couple got married in a pretty unusual place ... after their romantic wedding in mexico couldn't go on as planned. they got married at have lewis stepp had originally planned to surprise his girlfriend with a wedding in mexico last week .. but he had stepp was told he had to have major surgery to treat a blocked artery in his leg. he says he was determined to marry his girlfriend before his surgery, which is scheduled for wedding in just four days. instead of having the perfect wedding at the start planning my life with the perfect person i married the most giving man i could find. he moved heaven and

he was taken into custody by u.s. marshals who will extradite him from los angeles to d-c. brown and his bodyguard are accused of a hitting a man outside a hotel in d-c- last october. brown was serving time in jail in l-a on a probation violation after being kicked out of court-ordered rehab. if brown is convicted in the d-c case, he could face additional penalties and more time in jail. >> sometime in the near distant future, 2015 in fact paul and i will be wrapping things up and taking a hike. >> david letterman announced last night he is retiring. he said it will be sometime next year. he began his run hosting in 1982. he has won 14 emmy awards. possible replacements have been mentioned. >> captain, had you know the good guys from the bad guys?
