did have some construction but most will be picked up by 5:00. i will break down for you in just a bit after a wet demetrius. >>search crews may have made their most important discovery, in the search for a missing malaysian jet. andrew spencer reports, search equipment has detected what could be the plane's emergency beacon. >> officials wanted to make it clear. >> i haven't found the aircraft get. >> after more than a month of searching for the flight, officials have their most promising leads yet. crews dragging a locator underwater picked up signs of what could be an emergency beacon. >> to separate signal details have occurred in the northern part of the defined search area. the first detection was held for approximately two hours and 20 minutes. >> officials say the signals are consistent with what would be consistent from a plane flight

in movies back in the 1930's, with 16 "andy hardy" films. he went on to star is such films as "babes in arms"... "national velvet"... and "boys town." he received four oscar nominations over his more than 70 years in film. he won an emmy and a golden globe, for his role in "bill." rooney remained active until his final appearance in "night at the museum." off screen, he appeared before congress in 2011, to testify about abuse of the elderly. mickey rooney was 93. today is the first school day since a simeon high school sophomore was shot and killed. erik runge is live at the school in the west chatham neighborhood with more. erik? >> a good bet there will be counselors here at the school today for students and teachers. the 16 year-old was well liked and was a very good athletes here at the high school. the sophomore was a wrestler and football player. shot and killed saturday night in the burnside's neighborhood on the south side. family and friends have gathered

at the site he was gunned down at to pray for the 16 year-old. police say he got into an argument with people in a silver car and someone in the car opened fire. the shooting happened just outside the church at 93. not far from where his cousin was killed in 2009. the team was on his way to get some chips. so far no one has been arrested. >> my grandson of the the whoever did this please give yourself up. please help us. no matter what you have done. >> look at this mother and look at this grandfather. we can't keep flowing through the same song and dance about gun violence. you know your took somebody's life. do yourself a favor and turn yourself in were going to go and find you. >> sources tell us that

detectives working the case to have a good idea of who they are looking for. also there is a reward for any information leading to an arrest. it's a $1,000 award. you just have to call the tip line to give that information up. it's going to be a very sad day here regardless. >>an ambulance that was stolen outside stroger hospital was found in the southwest suburbs. someone stole a private ambulance, while paramedics dropped off a patient last night. police in lyons found it, about nine miles away, near a burger king. no arrests have been made. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. the body of a woman, discovered in a lake in porter, indiana, from michigan. teleka patrick of kalamazoo vanished in december. yesterday morning, a fisherman saw a body floating in lake charles, next to the burns harbor exit on i-94. an autopsy tomorrow may confirm the identity of the dead woman.

an autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the identity of another body found along the shore of lake michigan in evanston. police believe it is this woman from des plaines who was reported missing back in february. 61 year old debra fredricksen was last seen in evanston on february 22-nd. her car, cell phone, and purse was found near elliot park ... just a block from where the body was found sunday. police made an arrest in the murder of a teenage runaway from 17 years ago. 14 year old amber creek was found dead in a wildlife refuge in wisconsin in 1997. creek was a ward of illinois at the time. the racine county sheriff's department is not saying anything about the arrest, or what led to it, until tomorrow. police in skokie are holding a woman from wilmette after a series of car crashes. it started in evanston, where a car hit several vehicles, including a man on a bike and a woman on a motor scooter. the man was critically injured. the driver kept going for three miles before skokie police stopped her. so far, there is no evidence that she'd been drinking or taking drugs.

former congressman jesse jackson junior has been moved to another prison. jackson is serving a 30-month sentence for illegal use of campaign funds. he started at a federal prison camp in north carolina, last october. on friday, he was transfered to a prison camp in alabama, which was his first choice at sentencing. the reverend jesse jackson says the move was for medical reasons and his son's condition is improving. his son is being treated for bi-polar disorder. family and friends gathered to help the family of a four-year- old boy born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. james fulkerson has frequent seizures, and he requires constant care. his family says, as he has grown ... so has his needs. robin attended the event at st. john brebeuf in niles on sunday. the money raised will go toward the purchase of a special van to transport james. it will also be used to remodel the family's bathroom to accommodate james' wheelchair. there are many ways to play the classic video game "tetris" ... on a p-c, smart-phone or video game console.

a boy from plainfield, indiana died over the weekend in florida, after a fall from a balcony. 13-year old zachary dickman fell to his death from the 15th floor of a condominium in panama city. dickman and his grandmother were checking out of the condo. there's no explanation of how he fell... but police are treating it an accident. an autopsy has been scheduled. fights at hockey games are nothing new. but a big brawl broke out at a *charity game in new york. the police and fire departments faced off in a fundraiser. but in the middle of the game, with the score tied at 3, something started a fight... and in no time, both benches emptied.

fans cheered as the players swung wildly at one another. once it settled down, the police department team went on to win the game. what happened to serve and protect? at least 100 people were arrested at an unauthorized street party in southern california. about 15 thousand people "deltopia" gathering-- many of them students from the santa barbara. stop signs were torn down, small fires ignited and police cars damaged authorities say at least five being hit by bottles and bricks, thrown by revelers. nasa just released video of intense solar flares erupting from the sun. solar flares are large bursts of radiation that appear really bright on the sun's surface. nasa says these flares, that they found wednesday, are mid- level intensity. these flares are not harmful to us. nasa says the radiation cannot pass through the earth's atmosphere.

middle. it will bring in gillespie. it's a 1-0 lead. eight innings no runs four hits. so far the two. it's the ninth. again down the line, driving in another run the white sox win 5- 0 to win. that's it for sports. have a great day. >>an expected bounce on wall street didn't pan out friday. after a surge, u-s stocks finished in the negative. the dow dropped 159 points. the nasdaq plunged 110. and the s-and-p fell 23. sears is moving out of downtown chicago ... again. it closed its store on state street over the weekend. after an 18 year hiatus from downtown, sears opened the store back in 2001. the tribune reports the company lost one-point-four billion dollars last year and more than 900 million dollars the year before. chicago public schools is moving its headquarters to the building.

salinity, and that has the effect of attenuating (bending), sometimes through 90- degrees, sound waves." while location of the wreckage is the ultimate key to understanding what happened to flight 370, investigators are still looking through other information for answers. a senior government source in malaysia told c-n-n, sunday, the flight may have taken a route around indonesian airspace -- suggesting the route may have been designed to avoid detection by radar. the oscar pistorius murder trial has resumed after several days off. pistorius is charged with murdering his girlfriend, in his home in south africa, last year. he says he thought he was shooting a burglar. his defense says it plans to call 17-witnesses. first up, is a pathologist who is on the stand this morning. pistorius is expected to testify in his own defense, but no one is saying when that will be. the prosecutors' case projected him as a man with a dangerous temper, who was not consistent with investigators. today is the first school day since a simeon high school sophomore was shot and killed. erik runge is live at the school in the west chatham neighborhood with more. erik?

health is improving. a 9-year-old girl is missing after a flood in mississippi swept her away. authorities say her mother called after seeing the girl get sucked away into a culvert. a water rescue is currently underway. the area has received 4 to 5 inches of rainfall already, and it's still coming down. a u.s. navy ship is on its way back to san diego, after rescuing a couple and their two young daughters at sea. eric and charlotte kaufman set off from mexico two weeks ago, as part of a round-the-world sail. but their youngest daughter got sick, 900 miles from shore. the coast guard received a distress call last thursday. the u.s.s. vandegrift was dispatched to pick up the family. the girl has been treated, and she's getting better. her parents say they are accomplished sailors, and they were on the pacific leg of a trip that started more than a year ago. don't expect any more pictures with the president any time soon. last week the red sox player took this picture with the president with his samsung smart phone. it looks playful enough until samsung said it was

a publicity stunt for its product. the white house says it cannot allow the president's image to be used to endorse any product. officials say there may have to be a ban on these type of pictures. >> mayor emanuel is expanding the pothole repair program this announcement came as he visited a pothole crews on sunday. he gave them a pat-on-the- back, while they worked in the 21 hundred block of north austin. mayor emanuel told reporters that city hall has come up with an additional source of federal funding to expand the current repair effort. pothole repair is now running around the clock, seven days a week. >> did come up with more money, a grant and we will apply that to 13 more miles of additional roads for a record 345. >> damage claims have risen to historic levels, with nearly 19- hundred submitted to the city council this year. mayor emanuel in continuing his push to make chicago's streets more bicycle friendly. the chicago department of transportation plans to install five more miles of *protected bike lanes and another 15 miles of "buffer protected" lanes in multiple neighborhoods.

they'll start popping up on the north and west sides and in the loop this spring and summer. so far, chicago has installed about 50 miles of protected bike lanes with plans for another 50 by next year. a new nationwide push to crack down on distracted driving kicks off today. the u-s department of transportation is rolling out an advertising campaign to draw attention to distracted driving. states with distracted driver laws will be focusing on enforcing those laws. in 2012, 421-thousand people were injured in crashes which involved a distracted driver, and more than 3000 people were killed. a couple in mississipi is trying to make sense of a strange image on their surveillance camera. it started as an infra-red picture of some deer. but soon, a dim light appeared... then it got brighter, and hovered several feet in the air. the *camera doesn't emit any light... and no one has been able to explain the object that suddenly lit up the night sky
