sevens in the forecast for the upcoming days. we have a step down today. and the sunshine cooler along the lake but chile to the north. we are still expecting this weather to come through. not a war today but it will be sunny for much of it. it is 46 at midway. for the in bartlett. 45 in joliet. some light composite show's polite showers that we saw mainly to the south are starting to exit portions of northwest indiana. sunrise today is just after 6:00 a.m.. we will be in between systems for much of the day. 40 degrees by 5:00 p.m.. typical high is 60 degrees. slightly cooler than normal. only 52 degrees today. 64 tomorrow. but partly cloudy on easter sunday high of 71. >> we have worked out there to

tell you about including some filming along grand ave. from green to carpenter. shut down for much of the morning. resurfacing work out of harlem that goes from 63 to the stevenson. one of a handful of projects taking off for the weekend. more details in just a bit. >>a 12 year old boy was shot in judy wang is live with the latest on the boy pulled from the lake. >> the mcelroy county sheriff's department is trying to learn the circumstances. investigators are not revealing a lot of information on whether he lived in this neighborhood or not. we also don't know how he ended up in the pond. it happened in crystal lake. the fire department says there received a report of someone under water just after 9:00 p.m.. when

firefighters of ride the bystander said they believed a 50 year-old boy was in the water. the believed he may have jumped in during a party that was happening at a nearby home and he never came up. divers and sonar technicians went into the power which is about 20 ft. deep. 90 minutes after the began searching for the boy they found him in a portion of the part that is 8 ft. deep. the fire chief says he was onto conscious as paramedics rushed him to the hospital. the team taken to the hospital in woodstock is in critical condition. >> a 12 year-old boy was shot in the leg around 8:45 last night. it happened in near 130th and corliss in the altgeld gardens neighborhood. the boy says he was walking past two men when he heard a shot and felt pain. he was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. police are investigating, so far no on is in custody. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning.

the blackhawks opened the defense of the stanley cup with an overtime thriller in st. louis. the blues tied it with less than two mintes left in the game, and then just 26 seconds into *triple overtime... alexander steen wins it for st. louis. the hawks lose 4-3. game two is tomorrow afternoon. the cta has unveiled a 320- million dollar proposal.. to rehab a congested area north of belmont avenue. the c-t-a says 16 buildings must be torn down to make way for the belmont bypass. the new bypass will route brown line trains over the top of the existing tracks. currently, the red, purple and brown line tracks all converge at the clark junction, resulting in delays. police are asking for the public's help in finding this man in the baseball cap who assaulted a senior citizen on a c-t-a train. this is the video from friday, march 28-th ... on a c-t-a "skokie swift" line. police say the suspect started yelling at an older man... off camera. the older man then begged to be left alone.

the suspect began punching and kicking the man until he fell to the ground. no charges have been filed in the hit-and-run accident that killed a 12-year-old boy in whiting. angel villafuerte was hit by a semi while crossing a busy street wednesday afternoon. he died instantly. the driver of the truck kept going, but was stopped a few miles from the scene. he was questioned and released. the company that owns the truck expressed its sympathy to the family. two young brothers are back with their father, after being abducted by their mother. neighbors in west beverly say jamie duignan and her husband appear to be having martial problems. both are chicago police officers. police say duigan took her sons daniel and owen from the couple's home wednesday evening, and drove them up to grand chute, wisconsin, near green bay. the boys were found in a motel yesterday afternoon, safe and

unharmed. >> it's good to know that everyone is ok including jamie. she's fine and the boys are fine. all the stuff you could imagine did not happen. >> jamie duigan's husband got a cook county order of protection against his estranged wife yesterday. and he now has full custody of his sons. charges have not been filed yet. mrs. duigan is expected to face divers are facing greater odds of finding survivors inside the sunken ferry near south korea. 28-people are confirmed to be dead. there are still about 270- people who are missing. the entire boat is now underwater. rescuers are pumping air inside, in the hopes that would expand any air pockets for survivors. but divers are also facing dangerous conditions in their search for victims. >> there are heavy currents in this area. it's not stable in

the water. by default you are putting a diver at rest the divers have been assisting and have been brave and very forward in their approach. >>a korean prosecutor says the fish captain of the ferry was not in the steering room when the ship started to sink, but a third mate was. there's still been no explanation into how this happened. families have been camping out in a gym and an auditorium waiting for updates. police arrested a man for as many as 20 highway shootings near kansas city. several officers swarmed the man at a home in grandview, missouri, yesterday. no charges have been filed yet. investigators have not said what led to this arrest. hotthe shootings started on major highways and roads on march 8-th. no one was killed. one of the cars at the home has illinois plates. a mayor in northwest indiana and his wife are out on bond on

corruption charges. lake station mayor keith soderquist and his wife and personal secretary, deborah ... plead not guilty in federal court yesterday to wire fraud and filing false tax returns. they are accused of using money from soderquist's campaign fund, and the towns food pantry, to gamble at a nearby casino. the mayor's stepdaughter was charged with embezzling money from the town court while working there as a clerk. >> at the end of the day, every penny they ever received from the campaign fund was reimbursed for expenses they had personally incurred on behalf of the campaign. not a penny of money from the food pantry that is missing or unaccounted for. >>the mayor is not required to step down from office, unless he is convicted of the charges against him. lawyers for former mayor daley's nephew, richard venecko, are trying to get the wrongful death lawsuit against him dropped. vanecko threw the punch that

killed david koschman in 2004. he was recently freed after serving two months for involuntary manslaughter. koschman's mother filed a lawsuit claiming that vanecko, police officers, and prosecutors tampered with the case. vaneko's lawyers say the suit should be dismissed because the statute of limitations has run out. but koschman's lawyers say it hasn't because the suit alleges a more recent cover-up. a target employee is out on bond, after he was arrested for stealing three i-pads worth 17- hundred dollars. billal muammar was taken into custody after his shift at the state street store wednesday morning. prosecutors say a security guard using surveillance cameras saw him taking the i- pads from the stock room, and putting them into his backpack in an employee locker room. >>a man is suing five police officers who claimed to have found marijuana in his car. a videotape of his arrest exposed the officers' testimony as a lie. this videotape shows 23-year- old joe sperling being arrested in glenview last june. police said he failed to use

his turn signal properly. sperling had been under surveillance by chicago narcotics officers, who asked glenview for assistance. all five officers told the court, they followed the rules when they found a pound of pot in sperling's car. his lawyer says, the video showed otherwise. >> driving it home so the officer knows you can't just say what you are and with it. >> once the police start cheating and committing perjury and start routinely making stuff up, then it keeps getting pushed. >> sperling was likely headed to jail after several drug arrests and a 2010 drug conviction. but all charges were dismissed. aside from being sued for civil rights violations, the five officers also face an internal investigation... and possibly perjury charges. for now, a judge is refusing to toss out a sexual harassment suit against state treasurer dan rutherford. a former top aide to rutherford claims he made unwanted sexual advances. edmund michalowski also

alleges he was told to do political work on government time. judge joan lefkow is giving michalowski's lawyers until may 22nd to respond to the dismissal request. after that, she'll decide whether the federal lawsuit should move forward. today christians all over the world are observing good friday, the commemoration of the crucifixion of christ. the day's church services will revolve around the reading of the passion.. some congregations mark the day by re-enacting the journey christ took through the streets of jerusalem to calvary. good friday is not a national holiday in america... but many *states recognize it as such. the search is on for finding the perfect place for tightrope walker nik wallenda to perform in chicago. wallenda announced this month he'll perform his high wire act, similar to ones he did over niagra falls and the grand canyon. the location has not been picked yet, but he needs two neighboring skyscrapers of similar size.

so buildings like the willis tower and trump tower are out. wallenda's stunt will be broadcast live. about ten million people watched his grand canyon act last year. the willis or the trump would be ideal. but they are too far apart. >> at demetrius loves heights. >> even just watching that video is scary. today, temperatures are on the rise. it will move up too much though. we have readings right now at 50 degrees. homewood is 49. what's happening is our old friend continues to move south and east. light showers are continuing across will port county in northwest indiana. we're beginning to clear out all points north and west. as the front moves through temperatures will be stocked in the low 50s through the day. 524 a high today. tonight we're back down to 35. saturday we make 64

nine people were killed, and three others were seriously injured after a high-altitude avalanche on mount everest. the avalanche took place just above base camp in the khumbu ice fall. officials say a group of about 50 people were climbing the mountain. the nine killed were sherpa guides in the group . the sherpa guides had left early in the morning to fix the ropes for other climbers when the avalanche swept hit them at 20-thousand feet. several others are still missing. >>a man shot and killed his wife after she reported that he was high on marijuana. kristine kirk called 9-1-1 on her husband richard for acting erratically after eating marijuana candy and a prescription pain killer. this was in denver, where recreational marijuana became legal this year.

kirk said her husband was hallucinating but he wasn't being violent. police didn't respond immediately even thought the 9- 1-1 call taker knew there was a gun in the house. the call was 13 minutes long, when kirk's husband shot her in the head. police are now investigating why there was a lack of urgency and why responding officers were not told about the gun right away. we're hearing the first 9-1-1 calls from a chartered bus that collided head-on with a fedex truck, last week in california. ten people died, including both drivers. one emergency call came from a student on the bus. >> there was a car accident. among a boss. we crashed into a fedex truck. >> is this on south bound five? >> i don't know where we are.

>> we have medical and patrol coming your way. >> the bus was en route from los angeles to humbolt city university. five students and three chaperones were killed, either in the crash itself or the fire that followed. toronto's controversial mayor has been a one-man variety show since he admitted last year that he smoked crack cocaine. still, rob ford declared his re-election candidacy yesterday. >> connection and. there's so many people out there everybody has problems. >> ford admitted he has made mistakes. but he says he has saved toronto taxpayers nearly a billion dollars. a new poll this week shows him running second in a three- person race. he just keeps making it news. sriracha is considering moving

good friday. wall street managed to end a short week mixed. loss.. ..while the nasdaq and s-and-p 500 both saw slight gains. a spokesperson for chipotle says the mexican grill is raising its prices. the decision was fueled by high costs for steak, avocados and cheese. it's the first time menu prices at the food chain have gone up in nearly three years. demetrius is shaking his head. >> those are some big burritos. >> customers can expect to see the price hike around june. facebook is introducing a mobile feature in a few weeks.. that allows friends to track each other in real time.

it's called "nearby friends". the feature sends notifications whenever a facebook friend is near your location. facebook says the option should help users "meet up and spend time together." face to face. the feature is optional. you can turn it off. >> what happens if you get a phone call to hang out? time for sports. the blackhawks began the defense of the stanley cup in what turned into the longest game in blues history. st. louis drew first blood in game one last night. it's tied at two late in the first... jonathan toews makes a nice to pass to patrick kane for the breakaway goal... his 30-th career playoff goal. same score with less than two minutes left in the game... jayden schwartz sneaks the back- hander past corey crawford to tie it at three. the hawks had several chances, but 26 seconds into the third overtime... steve ott drops the puck back to alexander steen for the game- winner. crawford made 48 saves, but the hawks lose 4-3.

after being pulled from a pond in the northwest suburbs. plus, who's footing mayor emanuels travel bill? and a late one for the blackhawks...as they played into triple overtime against the blues. good morning, i'm nancy loo in for dan. and i'm erin mcelroy. let's go to demetrius ivory for a check of the weather. he has been promising decent weather. >> last weekend was good and then its node. this weekend is good again. hopefully no snow coming through. here's how it looks. 50 degrees right now. homewood at 49. we have one readings but cooler to the north and west because the cold front has moved through an these areas are starting to see the clearing skies. decaled is reading right now at 35. sunlight composite shows cloud cover basically is

in just a bit. >> a 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after being rescued from a pond in woodstock. judy wang is there live with the latest. >> good morning. we are in woodstock but the crystal lake fire department is who responded. the fire chief said 18. was unconscious when emergency workers pulled him from the pond. investigators with the sheriff's department to try to determine how he ended up in the water. the call came after 9:00 p.m. it happened near ballard in a pond that appears to be located on private property. firefighters received a report of someone under water and when they arrived bystanders said they believed the 15 year- old was in the pond and he may have jumped in but he never came up. divers and technicians spent about an hour and a half searching the pond which is 20 ft. deep in some parts. at 10:40 p.m. they found him in about 8 ft. of water. he is taken to

tickets as the mayor met with political donors and events where he showcased the city to businesses around the country. the mayor's office says he is fighting for every dollar and resource that can be invested in the city. they also say the travel and campaign fund fully complies with the law. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. divers are facing greater odds at finding survivors inside the second ferry. 20 people now confirmed to be dead. still 270 people missing. the entire boat is now under water. rescuers are pumping air inside in hopes it will expand any air pockets for survivors. but divers also face dangerous conditions in the search. >> there are heavy currents in this area. the vessel is not stable in the water. you are by default putting a diver at risk.

chicago is in the running for two big projects. mayor emanuel has made it well-known that the city wants to host president obama's presidential library and museum. but now, the mayor is also directing a task force to find a possible site for star wars creator george lucas film- making museum. >> and other museum would not be a waste, but maybe just an addition onto all that we have. >> i think chicago is becoming more of the backdrop for movies and tv shows and i think it will bring some tourism over. and some tax money. >> the task force will make its recommendations by mid-may, but they want public input first. a hearing will be held at the chicago cultural center wednesday night. comments are also being accepted on the city's website.

the first lady inspired dozens of schools to look at howard university. she took a tour with juniors and seniors yesterday. all part of a program called escape to mecca which encourages african-american students to attend college by immersing them in campus life. students are staying with howard students from the chicago area. they are even attending some glasses. >> that is quite a tour. >> no pressure at all if you're the one kid who doesn't go! >> wind out of the north at 10 mi.. dew point at 36. there is a cold front that moved through the region. as it moves through it changed our temperatures. much colder to the north and west. as the areas to the south and get a warmer the cooler air has not made its way into every area. cloud cover across these areas it will keep you from cooling down. you can see across

deal on defusing the crisis in ukraine. leaders from the u-s, russia, ukraine and the european union negotiated for seven hours in switzerland yesterday. it was their first meeting since the crisis began. under their agreement, all parties must stop violent and provocative acts ... and all illegal groups would be

disarmed. that includes russian separatists and their backers, even though they were not a part of the talks. the u-s has accused russia of aiding pro-russian militants in ukraine, but russia denies giving them any support. in washington, president obama expressed skepticism over the possible diplomatic deal. during his first major news conference in months, the president said he remains ready to impose new sanctions on russia ... if necessary. but, he ruled out any u-s military involvement. president obama also touted a our strong preference would be for mr. putin to follow through on what is a glimmer of hope coming out of the geneva talks. we are not going to count on it until we see it. we will prepare a were other options in the meantime. >> new milestone for the affordable healthcare act. 8-million americans have now

signed up for coverage ... one million more than expected. pieces of history were discovered during a home renovation in jasper, indiana. the family says they hired a contractor to build a new bathroom upstairs. when the contractor began rewiring their storage room, he found tons of mysterious letters stuck in the attic wall. they were love letters! the letters were between a woman named mary, and her sweetheart, "clem" as he was preparing for deployment in world war one. the homeowners say they were determined to find the relatives of mary and clem... and published the letters in the local newspaper. >> we read the article and the letters and i was flabbergasted. >> of those letters really convey what life was like and how he felt about our and mary. it was an amazing time. >> mary and clem got married after the war ended. no one is sure how the letters ended up here, but mary and clem's relatives are glad they were saved. a man tried to help himself to a free soda refill... but police made a federal case out of it.
