were walking on the sidewalk along the 1600 block of east 69 when they heard gunfire just after 9:30 p.m.. he soon realized they had been shot. the and christine was hit in the baccy is in critical condition. the 16 year-old was shot in the five and his condition is stable. police said much of the night gathering evidence from the apartment building. the rash of shootings since the weekend has the mayor speaking out. he joined community activists last night along with the relatives of the shooting victims. eight people were killed over the weekend and over 30 shooting incidents occurred. at least 36 injured including five children. the mayor became emotional as he addressed the violence since he is tired of making calls to their relatives of young shooting victims. >> any child who's had

familiarity replaced by gun violence we've not done their jobs. i am done making these phone calls. >>father michael pfleger announced saint sabina church is offering a five thousand dollar reward for names of people who are supplying guns to gang members. back to you. >>a shooting at a catholic school parking lot in northwest indiana ends as a murder suicide involving an estranged couple. nina castro was shot and killed in the parking lot at saint mary catholic school in griffith, yesterday afternoon. police say her two children saw castro's husband, remanard castro, shoot their mother and leave on a motorcycle. griffith police alerted police in gary that castro could be headed to his home there.

>> the police officers responded observed him in the real rear garage confronted him and told him to drop the weapon. he refused and turned the gun on himself. >>police say nina castro moved her children out of the home in gary recently as the couple was headed for a divorce. remanard castro was charged with sexually assaulting his wife earlier this year. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. authorities are looking for the person who shot a killed a 16 year old boy in joliet. robert garcia was standing in a driveway with a group of people in the 400 block of algonquin street yesterday afternoon. the gunman walked up to the group and began shooting ... hitting garcia several times, the gunman then ran away. no one else was injured. a man from chicago is charged with soliciting a child for sex. 22-year-old christopher brown was arrested yesterday afternoon at the ravinia metra station in highland park. police say he communicated online with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl... and was

on his way to meet her for a sexual encounter. instead, a police detective was waiting to arrest him. the cook county sheriff's office is reopening its investigation into alleged sexual abuse by a priest from chicago. just a week ago, father michael o'connell was reinstated as pastor of saint alphonsus church in lakeview, when a sexual abuse complaint in december proved unfounded. but now, a man has come forward to say he witnessed o'connell molesting a boy in 1999, at a south suburban gym. two people were injured after a car crashed into a starbucks in schaumburg. a 71-year-old driver lost control of her car and slammed into the starbucks on barrington road yesterday. police say she mistook the gas for the brakes. two customers inside suffered minor injuries. authorities say it's not likely that the driver will face charges or get a ticket. hundreds of people gathered on chicago's south side to remember grammy-winning music legend, frankie knuckles. the veteran club d-j, known as "the godfather of house music", died last month from

complications from diabetes. last night's memorial was called a "celebration of life" for the 59-year-old producer and re-mixer. knuckles first gained fame for his work in the 19-70's, pioneering "house music" at several nightclubs in new york before moving to chicago. he would go on to work with michael jackson, luther vandross, and diana ross. the death toll from the sunken ferry in south korea is now at 108-people. 194 others are still missing, but divers are having a hard time looking for them underwater. andrew spencer has more. >> as crews recovered more bodies of the death toll rose to more than 100. a grim milestone for divers for whom the search has been incredibly difficult. >> not only us in the dark but there's sediment and stuff getting moved around. it's like a sand clout where you can't even see your hand in front of your face. >> the conditions are so bad my heart aches. we think there may be survivors but we come back with nothing and we can't even face the families. >> 6 days after the ferry

capsized and then sank off the coast, divers face the thought possibility that even with air pockets there may not be anybody left alive. >> i thought of around three or four day mark wants to get past that probably not. >> it depends on how big the air pocket was. >> rescuers refuse to give up. >> i think there are still people down there. we fight to try to make sure the person is alive even if we are told the likely chances are small. >> seven crewmembers had been arrested. the ferry captain faces several charges. the company operated a family addressed the family in an apology. it reads we've prostrate ourselves before the victims' families and bake for forgiveness. we pray with all our hearts there will be survivors. we beg for forgiveness for the families and pray for the dead. >>a cyclone has suspended the

today is earth day. mayor emanuel says the city will partner with residential areas to help make homes more energy efficient. through this partnership, the city will upgrade to energy efficient light bulbs and installing air sealing and insulation. mayor emanuel says this will help residents save 3-point-8 dollars in energy costs each year. the first earth day was in 1970. earth day was created in the u-s to increase public awareness of environmental problems. it's celebrated every year by more than a billion people. about that. >> good morning. fairly nice weather today. we are expecting some sunshine. clouds will be on the increase tonight and into tomorrow. a pretty nice day. temperatures of 54 degrees right now. the temperatures will not move much. a cold front has moved through. a few scattered showers yesterday and during the overnight. 39 degrees right now

shot and killed by a u-s marshal in a utah courtroom. siale angilau was on trial for mafia-style racketeering charges. witnesses say he charged at a witness who was testifying against him yesterday when the marshal shot him several times. angilau was taken to the hospital and later died. the courthouse in salt lake city was placed on lockdown. no one else was hurt. the teenage boy who flew from california to hawaii as a stowaway will not be charged with a crime. this 16 year old boy ran away from home sunday morning. he hopped a fence at the san jose airport and hid inside the wheel well of a hawaiian airlines plane. he stayed there as the plane

flew for almost five hours at 38-thousand feet in the air. wheel wells aren't heated, but he still survived on little oxygen and subzero temperatures. at that height you are around - 55 degrees. skin and freezes almost instantaneously are around -44. >>105-people are known to have flown inside wheel wells since 1947. only 25 of them survived. this boy may have defeated the odds, but that can cost him in the long run. he could have experienced permanent brain damage, frost bite, or damaged his kidneys. we've told you the story of the cursing toddler in nebraska. three months ago, police in omaha released a shocking video of the child swearing... and the state took custody of both the boy and his 17-year-old mother. but now, the state has agreed to a one-month transition, in which the child may go home with his mother.

u-s stocks moved higher after the long easter weekend. the dow gained 38 points. the nasdaq rose 26, and the s-and-p added seven. netflix prices are going up for some people. netflix plans to raise subscription costs for *new customers by one or two dollars in the next few months. existing customers will *not see a change in their current rate for a while. company's public fight with some internet service providers over streaming speeds.

the service providers want netflix to pay a fee to off-set the cost of delivering its data- heavy content. a federal agency that had originally approved a new powdered alcohol product reversed its decision. a man in arizona received federal approval for "palcohol." it transforms vodka or rum into a powder that can be mixed into water. the federal agency says it approved "palcohol" in error. the creator thinks there might be a discrepancy about how much powder is in the packets. he says he'll try again to get approval. time for sports. corey crawford gave up two late goals in st. louis, so the hawks needed him to bounce back at home to get back in the series. hawks playing their first game without brent seabrook. no score a few minutes into the game... jonathan toews fires a quick wrister that somehow finds the back of the net... his first of the playoffs.

done making these phone calls. >> the father is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who turns in gun suppliers. back to you. >>prosecutors have filed murder charges in the murders of two teens over the weekend. 23-year-old justin hamilton of flossmoor is accused of killing 16-year-old jordan means and 18-year-old anthony bankhead saturday morning. means and bankhead were found shot in the head inside a basement in the 82-hundred block of south houston avenue. means mother says her son and hamilton had an argument on facebook before the shooting. hamilton is scheduled to appear in bond court later today. recovery efforts are getting more difficult as divers look for more victims in the south korean ferry disaster. 108 people found in the ferry are dead. 194 others are still missing.

say, show russian troops operating in eastern ukraine. the ukrainians claim, russia sent sabotage and reconnaissance groups into the country, to try to provoke a military confrontation, and justify a russian takeover of more of ukraine. russia denies any involvement in the recent militant takeover of several ukrainian government buildings. vice president biden is now in the capital, kiev, for talks with ukrainian leaders. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. an estranged couple in northwest indiana is dead after a murder suicide. griffith police say remanard castro shot and killed his wife, nina, in a catholic school parking lot yesterday. the victim's two children saw it happen. castro then went to his home in gary and killed himself. the couple was two months away from a divorce. a zion native is ready accept his punishment -- even the death penalty -- for murdering a female sailor in virginia. jorge torrez has directed his defense attorneys not to put up a fight, as a jury considers

over the weekend-- forcing him to use a manual chair. he has no function of his right arm to maneuver the chair. and lose all my mobility with my legs i need that to get back and forth to school. i need to move around. with this chair i have no independence. >> perteet helps raise awareness about violence in chicago through public speaking. hes also a college student. his specially equipped van was stolen from outside the house and it was never returned. >>the white house is considering having fewer troops in afghanistan than what the military had planned. the u-s is withdrawing most of its soldiers as the mission ends this year. a small group is expected to stay to train afghan forces and focus on counter terrorism operations. that group could be less than five thousand troops, even though the military is demanding no less than ten-thousand. but white house officials are leaning toward having less since afghanistan's recent elections went smoothly.

with the law for a hoax he played on his mother. police say the 25 year-old text of his mother claiming his dealer was going to kill him if he did not get $200 ransom. his mother got suspicious and called police. they arranged a drop-off spot and he was arrested. he then tried to tell police that he was held hostage. they say his story kept changing. his mother says he has done this before. he was charged with filing a false report.

hollywood movie director of molesting him-- is now accusing three more hollywood executives of sexual abuse. egan's attorney says it shows proof of a hollywood sex ring. he filed lawsuits against garth ancier, gary goddard and david nuemen. egan says that the three men, along with bryan singer gave him drugs and alcohol then forced him to have sex when he was a teenager. chris brown's assault trial in washington, d-c has been postponed. it was originally scheduled for monday... but the judge delayed proceedings to give lawyers enough time to sort out issues over testimony from brown's bodyguard. the two were involved in an assault outside of a d-c hotel last year. christopher hollosy, his bodyguard, was convicted yesterday.
