playoffs. eleven minutes into overtime... patrick kane brings it up the ice and keeps it himself for the game- winner... his second goal of the night. hawks win 4-3 to even the series at two. game five is in st. louis tomorrow night. there is some breaking news out of afghanistan ... at least three foreign hospital workers in afghanistan were killed this morning by an officer guarding the hospital. it happened in the downtown kabul. the three men killed were among several workers shot at cure international hospital. cure is a charity based in pennsylvania. there are reports that all three people are american. the police guard shot himself but survived. the motive for the attack is not the black president met with the imperial family and japanese prime minister. and japanese prime minister. andrew spencer reports. >> the first ceremony in the imperial palace where he met

with the japanese emperor's visit. the president also met with the prime minister again this morning to talk business. specifically the trade talks between the world's first and third biggest economy. in a joint press conference they did not announced any breakthroughs. >> we instructed them to continue their talks so as to discuss any issues to about the talks. >> also addressing the ongoing crisis in eastern europe. >> we have been very clear about the fact that there will not be a military solution to the ukraine problem. we have continued the possibility to resolve this issue diplomatically. >> and the ongoing dispute over what japan calls their islands. >> it would be profound mistake

to continue to see an escalation of around this issue. >> as part of his tour, the president heads to south korea friday before making stops in malaysia and the philippines. >>an "object of interest" that washed ashore in australia, is not from the missing malaysian jetliner. experts examined a sheet of metal with rivets, thinking it might be from a plane's fuselage. but they say it's the wrong kind of metal... and it's probably from a shipping container or the hull of a boat. a tropical cyclone in the indian ocean is still making an air search for the plane too risky. an underwater submarine has already examined more than 90 percent of *its search area, with no luck. a south korean high school is back open after losing hundreds of its students to the sunken ferry disaster. pictures of the students killed are on display at a memorial. portraits were also put on black hearses as they drove through their school's gates one last time. 169 people have been found dead since the ferry went underwater

eight days ago. 133 are still missing. police arrested the captain and ten crew members as they investigate how all this happened. the offices of the ferry operator are also being searched. an image of jesus displayed in daley plaza every easter is believed to have been vandalized for the first time in its eight-year history. nancy loo joins us *live with more. >> good morning. police say a formal report has not yet been filed in the case. though the organizers behind the display say it is a clear case of vandalism. the 10 ft. high portrait of jesus known as the divine mercy was discovered with considerable damage yesterday morning. somebody had punctured holes into the canvas and also smashed a glass case nearby. the conservative thomas more society has arranged for the annual easter season display which has never been damaged before. the

vandalism prompted many prayers yesterday with some wondering about motivation. >> what would motivate this? this is not random vandalism or violence by kids. there are other displays that have not been touched. >> a counter display from the freedom from religion foundation was not damaged. it reads keep state and religion separate. the first year both displays have been out on the plaza together. despite the damage, the divine mercy display will remain in place and organizers say it will stay as scheduled for sunday. back to you. >> stories this morning. daycare worker must be freed from prison while she appeals her conviction for shaking a toddler to death. jennifer del prete has spent almost a decade behind bars for the death of isabella zielinski. but the judge says there is new evidence to suggest that

del prete didn't cause the child's death. the revived investigation into john wayne gacy's killing spree, has helped solve another *unrelated murder case. edward beaudion was originally thought to be one of eight unidentified victims of gacy, after his disappearance in 1978. his body turned up in a forest preserve six years ago. instead, investigators say (bo-de-on) was killd by a man from missouri, who has since died. the chicago board of education voted to privatize three more under-performing schools in its turnaround effort. gresham, mcnair and dvorak elementary schools will be taken over by the "academy for urban school leadership" next year. the entire staff will be fired and replaced. a onetime top aide to former cook county board president todd stroger is going to prison. carla oglesby was sentenced today to six and a half years behind bars for corruption yesterday. she was convicted of stealing more than 300-thousand dollars in public funds. prosecutors say she took kickbacks in cash-stuffed

envelopes for steering contracts to the firms of friends. authorities say she was careful to award contracts just under the 25-thousand dollar mark, that would trigger a review by the county board. state representative derrick smith's own words will be used against him at his bribery trial. smith will be on trial next month for taking a bribe in return for helping a day care operator get a state grant. yesterday a federal judge ruled that the confessions smith made after his arrest are admissible at trial. the defense argued those statements were off-limits since they were made during plea negotiations. but the judge sided with prosecutors who said smith spoke freely after waiving his right to remain silent. the cubs celebrated what they called the birthday party of the century, as wrigley field turns 100 years old. yesterday marked the 100-th anniversary of the first game at wrigley field. the cubs and diamondbacks wore throwback jerseys to look like the teams that played that day. a 98 year old baseball was used in the ceremonial first pitch, which was thrown by the grand niece of the man who had the ballpark built. some bears hall of famers also looked back on playing there, before the days of soldier

wyoming is evacuated, after an explosion and fire at a gas plant. it happened yesterday afternoon in opal -- population 95. the town is downwind from a plant that removes impurities from unrefined natural gas. investigators still don't know what caused the explosion. no one was injured, and the resulting fire did not spread to any other biuldings. a corrections officer is safe after he was held hostage for

several hours at a jailhouse in ohio. it started when three inmates grabbed the officer as he was making his rounds yesterday morning. one of them was armed with a homemade knife. they tied the officer up with bed sheets and took his radio and phone. the inmates demanded cigarettes and to be transferred to another facility. the officer was released about five hours later without incident. a new law in the state of georgia allows guns in some schools... bars... and churches. the governor signed it yesterday... it takes effect july first. while the *state may say guns are okay, churches and bars will have the right to decide whether to allow guns inside. people with concealed-carry permits wil be allowed to take their guns into government buildings and certain parts of airports. critics call the new law "extremism in action." the food and drug administration is making another attempt at regulating electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products. the agency is proposing rules that call for strict regulation of electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, nicotine gels, water pipe tobacco and hookahs. currently, the f-d-a only has regulatory authority over cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco.

the recommendations will be finalized following a 75-day public comment period. a mom in massachusetts is receiving high praise from other mothers over the size of her newborn baby. carisa ruscak came out weighing 14 and a half pounds, and is 22-inches long. that's the size of an average six-month-old baby. she is the biggest baby born at massachusetts general hospital in more than a decade, and is the state's largest this year. carisa was delivered by c- section. doctors knew carisa would be on the bigger side, because her mom's first baby was ten and a half pounds. >> i was in a lot of pain while i was pregnant. to make sense when i heard the size. >> i had to take a picture of the scale to document that because i could not believe how big she was. >> i am blaming bad. doctors knew the baby would be a big

made quite a discovery when they arrested a teenager for driving on a suspended license. as they searched dallas archer before booking her at the jail, they discovered she was packing a loaded 22-caliber revolver inside her genitals. the gun turned out to be stolen. now, archer's rap sheet also includes possession of stolen property, and taking contraband into a jail. that's what larry calls a caboose pistol. we will just out there want to give any further. the hotline for new jersey's transit system was hotter than one passenger expected. a woman was using a self-serve kiosk yesterday when the machine ate her credit card. she saw a poster advertising a passenger information line, and called the number. it turned out to be a phone sex service. a new jersey transit spokeswoman says the poster should have come down when they stopped using the number six years ago. they're now checking other stations for outdated posters.

>> 15 years he got together here with fans and should movies he thought was overlooked. last year he died on april 4th. that was 17 days before the final film festival that he had personally put together. this year it was put together by his staff and his wife kicking off five days of the films for fans that started yesterday afternoon. it all started with a vip party at the home of the university of illinois president. after some food and thinking of the sponsors it was off to the historic virginia theater where roger grew up watching movies. the festival's opening night film is a documentary about himself. the much acclaimed life based on his final book. the film was presented to the crowd.
