friday evening friday's high of 57. sunshine and dry land on saturday. >> we will take it. let's take a look at the roads. we have a lot of construction from overnight they're taking advantage of this dry weather. but we have a three vehicle accident that caused all kinds of problems early this morning. gasoline spilling out onto the expressway. it happened near willow which is a big construction zone. to suvs at a street sweeper. the force of the crash ruptured the full tank and its bill gas all over the fuel tank. one of the suvs then crashed into a ditch. all inbound lanes were closed to mop up the gas. a bit of a squeeze through their we will bring you updates on the situation along with the rest of your travel times and coming up. >>a man was shot and killed in

the east chatham neighborhood overnight. it comes as chicago police release new april crime numbers. nancy joins us *live at 81st and cottage grove with more. good morning. the city's latest apparent murder was discovered here are around 2:00 this morning. police are responding to a report of shots fired and a man in his 20s was found shot in the head lying dead on the sidewalk at the corner of 81 and south cottage road. no one is in custody. this investigation is just getting under way in what appears to be the first murder of a first day of may. police were busy investigating other shooting incidents including one uptown which left two men injured. the 23 and 42 year-old man were shot in the leg and arms. they are in stable condition after a gunman opened

fire during an argument along west tyler. less than an hour before that, for the men were shot as the walking along south phillips in the south shore neighborhood. all expected to recover. the gunmen took aim from inside a passing car. the rash of deadly violence in the last 24 hours comes as the police department talks about latest crime statistics. overall crime was down 20% in the first four months. the number of shootings down by 3%. kerry mccarthy has put set special focus on illegal guns and the department recovered 1900 of those in the last few months. but there were two more murders so far this year in the same period of time as last year and notably, they has gotten off to a deadly start. back to you.

>>the investigation into a 14- year-old girl's shooting death continues ... as chicago police look at cell phone video that was recorded at the scene. friends and family of endia martin held a vigil to honor her memory last night. martin was shot and killed by another 14-year-old girl monday ... after the two got into a fight over a boy. the teenager is charged with murder, along with her uncle, donnell flora. flora, who was paralyzed by a shooting in 20-10, is being held on three-million dollars bond. police say flora gave his niece the gun that was used to kill martin. >> we need adults to take control of their household. take control of your children. enough is enough. >> there is a war in our neighborhood every day when we send our children off to school and not knowing if they're coming back home. that is a war. >>a 17-year-old is also charged with trying to get rid of the gun. police haven't ruled out more

charges tied to martin's death, as they review video that a witness captured at the scene. the storm system that brought 6 07 students sent inappropriate pictures to cell phones. most of them were pictures of themselves taken in the mirror. sixth and seventh and increase students are involved police say it doesn't appear the pictures were posted on social media. >> this is a junior high a thing. one boy to a girl or a girl to a boy. >> sometimes middle school students don't think through the consequences of their actions. >> they don't know if criminal child charges will be filed the students will likely be disciplined privately. >> stories this morning. chicago police are asking for

help in finding a man who sexually assaulted a seven-year- old boy in a restaurant restroom on the west side. it happened at the "great buffet" in the 25-hundred block of west cermak on saturday. the man spoke spanish to the boy, had a black mustache and numerous tattoos on both arms. he took off from the restaurant in a small green vehicle. a former daycare worker is out of prison, while she appeals her conviction, a decade ago, of shaking a toddler to death. a 14-month-old girl died in jennifer del prete's care at a day care center in romeoville. a judge ordered jennifer del prete released, after newly uncovered evidence pointed to her innocence. the judge also challenged the science behind "shaken baby syndrome." former state representative keith farnham will remain under home confinement, while he awaits trial for trading child pornography. the democrat from elgin is under court order to stay away from children. he resigned recently, citing health reasons. farhman isn't saying whether he'll fight the child porn charges, or try to plea bargain. five lawsuits were filed against the diocese of joliet accusing four priests of abusing minors decades ago.

at the same time, attorneys for the plaintiffs made public thousands of diocese documents on 16 priests who were accused of sexually abusing minors ... allegations the church found were credible. the lawyers say the church has a pattern of protecting priests over children. the old chicago cards are on their way out. as of this one is stopped selling the cards as part of the transition to ventura. you will not be able to load existing cards and starting in july buses and trains will stop accepting them and you will need to pay. >>the blackhawks finally have an opponent for the second round of the playoffs. five minutes in they had a breakaway and the game winner is scored. nailed it. game 1 to bar night at the united center. will have a full schedule in sports.

when they spot a problem coyote's he gets the call. >> most often the coyote take the dog and then people are very distraught. when that happens they usually call and we cannot and we put carries up to identify the problem. >> here is video of those coyotes. they say coyotes don't feed on pets mostly attacks are but territory. they didn't want to eat the dough to them she was competition. >> we believe it's just animals taking up the territory they don't want any animals to compete for food source. >> we came here to the trail sled museum of natural history to see one up close. there is a female on exhibit. >> she has been here for 11 years. she is thought to be at work and coyote pop and route 10-15 days she was taken because of a thought she was an orphan and brought to the animal

hospital. >> the coyote population in cook county is up to several thousands. they're not regulated. >> they live everywhere in every neighborhood within the county's and within most of the state. we can expect to see them just about anywhere. but the chances are not as likely. >> a harsh winter was likely took a toll their numbers are probably down but this time of the year we should expect more sightings as the mums are nursing their pups. don't be scared, be smart. >> are they dangerous to my family? they're not dangerous to people. coyotes are living out in the wild doing what they'd do. as a naturalist, enjoy it have fun with it and watch them but don't get near them. >> they are going to have a spring festival at the museum.

the month of nate it is off to a deadly start. a man lies dead on the sidewalk here. his body discovered around 2:00 a.m. as police responded to reports of shots fired. the unidentified man in his twenties had been shot in the head lying dead on the sidewalk at the corner of 81 and south cottage grove. no one in custody. investigation just getting underway in what appears to be the first murder on the first day of may. police were busy investigating other shooting incidents including one uptown which left two men injured last night. the 23 and 42 year-old man shot in the leg and arms in stable condition after a gunman opens fire during an argument among the 800 block of west chrysler. less than an hour before that, for a man shot walking along the 7300 block of south phillips in the south

top chicago police are asking for help in finding a man who sexually assaulted a seven-year- old boy in a restaurant restroom on the west side. it happened at the "great buffet" in the 25-hundred block of west cermak on saturday. the man spoke spanish to the boy, had a black mustache and numerous tattoos on both arms. he took off from the restaurant in a small green vehicle. police in batavia are investigating a middle school sexting incident. detectives say six or seven rotolo middle school students sent inappropriate nude photos of themselves to about 12 students on their cell phones. most of them are selfies that were taken in a mirror in the last four to six weeks. sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are involved. criminal charges could be filed. are on their way out. as of this morning, the c-t-a has stopped selling the magnetic strip cards, as part of the transit system's transition to the ventra fare card. also you won't be able to *reload existing chicago cards. and starting in july, c-t-a buses and train will stop accepting them... and you'll need to pay by ventra.

the blackhawks have secured home ice for the second round. the minnesota wild tied the colorado avalanche late in game seven, and then five minutes into overtime scored the game- winner. the hawks host the wild in game one tomorrow night and game two on sunday afternoon. ukraines acting president is severe weather has killed 38 people since sunday. the latest problem is heavy rain and flooding. in florida and alabama some of the worst flooding. the water rose so high so fast people fled to their attic and rooftop to wait for help. high water washed away the grounds causing streets to collapse and leaving large gaping holes. more heavy rain also hitting states along the east coast. >> ukraine acting president is conceding that pro-russian militants have won the east. dozen cities in eastern ukraine, along the russian border. it is not clear who is in charge of the militias, or how they are organized.

ellison to make an offer. geffen says winfrey really isn't interested in running the team.. she just wants the league to have another african american owner. there's a media stakeout outside the home of the woman who recorded donald sterling's remarks. every time v-stiviano leaves the house, she's wearing a visor that covers her face. on tuesday, she was wearing the visor and roller-skating when she told reporters that she will be president of the united states one day. her lawyer says reports that describe her as sterling's mistress are not accurate. the lawyer says the relationship wasn't sexual, even though sterling's wife is suing her to reclaim the apartment, cars and cash that he gave her. chicago's city council passed a variety of measures, but the one that affects the most people is the ban on plastic bags in stores. supporters of the ban say it helps the environment because fewer bags will litter the ground, block waterways, and kill animals. so stores will have to go with more expensive paper bags or re-usable bags. large stores will need to comply by august of next year. smaller stores have until august of 2016. "mom and pop" stores and

zac efron is opening up about his problems with drugs and alcohol. in an interview with the hollywood reporter, efron admits to drinking too much and battling the temptations of hard partying like many young stars in hollywood. he has now joined alcoholics anonymous... though he says addiction is a "never-ending struggle." take cover. sharknado three is in the works. the second installment of the horror movie is due out in july. even so, the syfy network has announced plans for a third sharknado to hit another city. the first sharknado became a hit on twitter with social media users and celebrities raving about the movie.
