from second. justin grimm walked in another run and the sox win 3-1. game two is tonight, right here on wgn. a man is in critical condition this morning after he was nearly electrocuted in a freak accident. the man, who police say is in his 60's or 70's, was in a car near 79th street and martin the morning. the power still appears to be out to a number of buildings including a public library as crews worked to replace a poll and reconnect a line. there were accidentally pulled down in a freak accident that nearly electrocuted a man nearby. the man is believed to be in the '60s or '70s and remained in critical condition. a run for 30 p.m. yesterday the bed of a dump truck was raised for some reason snagging the power line overhead and pulling it down onto a cart near 79th and king

drama. the unnamed victim suffered a major electrical shock when he touched a vehicle carrying the current. the dump truck involved was not affiliated. not known yet why the bed of the truck was being raised or who was operating at. crews here indicate they hope to have these repairs made in about one hour so they can open the streets. back to you. >>a woman in her 50's was rescued from a burning home in riverdale. the fire broke out just before midnight, in a bedroom of this home on emerald avenue. it took firefighters about two hours to put it out. the woman was discovered on a back porch. she was alone in the house. she is being treated at ingalls memorial hospital in harvey. no word yet on her name or condition. the body of a farmer and volunteer firefighter was found buried inside a grain silo in rural dekalb county. 73-year-old leon madey disappeared just before one

yesterday afternoon. his son said he was with his father working to dislodge corn in the silo on their farm in genoa. the son left and came back a short time later and couldn't find his dad. one hundred firefighters from more than two dozen fire departments worked to drain the silo and search for madey they found his body buried in corn several hours later. >> he was always conscious of safety. for this to happen, it is truly a freak accident and very tragic you can't even describe it. >>madey was a volunteer firefighter for 25 years and knew most of the firefighters who responded to the farm. his sons are firefighters as well. four people were rescued after michigan. it happened in shallow water near 39th street yesterday. emergency responders from the chicago fire department rescued the people on-board before the boat completely went down. no word on what might have caused the boat to sink. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning.

the father of a four-year-old boy who was killed in a crash on interstate 55 near bolingbrook has been charged with driving drunk. shannon dyer was charged yesterday. police say dyer was driving on i-55 early sunday morning, when he hit a concrete median. the car flipped over -- ejecting all three passengers who were riding in the back seat. dyer's four-year-old son, taylor, died. taylor's two brothers were also injured. the man charged in a deadly crash on lake shore drive is free on bond. 23-year-old erik johnson, of lakeview, posted 50 thousand dollars, and met a reduced bond. johnson is charged with hitting an oncoming taxi, as he was driving drunk on the wrong side of the road. the crash killed university of chicago law student laura la- plante. hundreds of mourners joined family and friends to remember 14-year-old endia martin in the englewood neighborhood. derrick rose, who is also from englewood, reportedly paid his respects at the funeral. martin was killed during an argument with a girl once described as a "friend". that girl is now charged with murder ... five others are also charged in the case. the hammond police officer who was caught abusing his patrol dog has been suspended.

this video has been watched nearly 750-thousand times since it was posted last week. it shows the officer hitting the dog with its leash and holding it up in the air by its neck. hammond's mayor says the officer had a good track record, until this. an accused killer from indiana is free, after walking out of a hospital in oak lawn. police say 21-year-old mark cherry of lake station, and two other men, broke into a home in gary on december first... demanded drugs from the homeowner... then shot and killed a man. cherry suffered a bullet wound in the exchange. he was treated at christ medical center... but two months later, when he felt better, he simply walked out. >> things happen like that. we're not going to blame anybody will not blaming anybody. is that it happened and it is unfortunate. but it did happen. >>police say they don't have the manpower to guard a suspect at a hospital for two months. the hospital says it has no police powers to detain a patient against his will. a patient in indiana continues to recover from *mers as

hospital workers continue to take precautions. the world health organization says the patient is a 61 year old u-s citizen. he's been getting treated for "middle east respiratory syndrome," or mers, since april 28th. doctors say he's now breathing normally, has a good appetite, and will be confined to his home soon. no one else has been infected. but about 50-hospital workers, who came in contact with him before his diagnosis, are isolated inside their homes. *mers is a new type of virus that resembles the flu, but there's no vaccine for it. the chicago teachers union is getting ready for another contract fight before this contract is even over. the current union's contract expires on june 30-th of next year. c-p-s can offer a one year extension, but union president karen lewis says it will get rejected. that could lead to new contract talks during next year's mayor's race. teachers went on strike for seven days, in 2012, before they agreed to the last deal. c-p-s c-e-o barbara byrd- bennett says her team is focused on finishing the school year strong, not next year's contract negotiations.

a polish immigrant in new york has been named the "world's oldest" man. alexander imich is 111 years old. he was born in 1903 and survived the holocaust to became a chemist and parapsychologist. the previous record holder passed away two weeks ago in italy - just days before his 112th birthday. imich says he's surprised by his new title. >> i don't know how this happened. it just happens. he's not the world's oldest person - that title belongs to a 116 year old woman in japan. imich mastered the computer at the age of 92 and even wrote a book about the paranormal that year. he says he thinks the secret to his long life was not having any kids. that means demetrius will live to like a hundred and 18. >> 140 is where i'm going and you thought you were smart with your tax write-off. you thought you had it all figured out. but i will live forever. >> you may be alone but you will be old.

prayers. two women - an atheist and a jew - sued the city in 2007, saying the prayers were illegal. the house ethics committee says it will continue to investigate congressman luis gutierrez. gutierrez is being investigated for his hiring of lobbyist doug scofield. scofield was the congressman's chief of staff before he went to work for rod blagojevich. then in 2003, gutierrez hired him as a contractor. house rules say contractors may not handle matters that are meant for full time employees. last years an ethics board found that gutierrez may be mis-using his congressional allowance to pay scofield for his services. gutierrez's office says the congressman will cooperate with the review. mayor emanuel has disclosed the gifts he received from friends and political supporters in the past year. in his most recent statement, emanuel reports accepting gratuities from five people. they included free transportation and sports tickets from the c-e-o of a hedge fund firm... a free stay at the home of a prominent chicago attorney... and free travel expenses from the head

list. prosecutors say pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend reeva steenkamp after an argument. pistorius testified it was an accident because he thought she was a burglar. today his next door neighbor testified that she heard someone crying and screaming for help that night. this is the 7-th defense witness, out a possible 14, to take the stand. yesterday, another witness testified that pistorius tried to revive steenkamp after he shot her. dozens have pro-russian insurgents were killed in ukraine today during an operation to remove anti- government forces. ukraine's interior minister says 30 pro-russian fighters died in donetsk when they were ambushed by goverment troops. four ukraine soldiers also died today in fighting in the city of slovyansk and another twenty were injured. the government has ordered all flights in and out of donetsk be cancelled. dozens of troops have been killed since the government began a push against pro-russian insurgents last friday. defense secretary chuck hagel visits the chicago area today. he'll speak at the fairmont hotel, at an event hosted by the chicago council on global affairs. he'll also visit with recruits at naval training center great lakes.

excitement is just from competing. is there with his friends and he loves it. >> on his last day of school before his big trip, the entire student body came together to wish him well. >> we're sending him off with cheers and love and we're proud of you more than you know. >> something we didn't expect or plan. it just happened. we're very excited about it. very happy. i think he came so far when he was little he couldn't even step down from the sidewalk he was afraid of heights and now he is on the high bars and the rings. it has been a lot of hard work and a long journey, but it has been worth it. >> good thanks to the union
