heading west bound that will be in place for a least a month. no accidents to report. very easy travel volume is light across the board including all the expressway's and tolls. >>breaking news on the north side -- where a man was tasered by police overnight for allegedly shoplifting. nancy loo is live in old town with the story. >> good morning. according to witnesses who were here at the time, police taser this man because he was resisting arrest. but he fell face ford into a light pole and was unconscious. that's after he allegedly stole a bottle of liquor from a walgreen's down the street. police cleared the scene at north avenue and north park around 3:00 a.m. just after midnight witnesses on the street

and inside a 24-hour fitness center saw the police chasing a suspect west on north avenue from the walgreen's a block away. workers say the man had shoplifted a bottle of vodka and an officer was nearby to give chase as soon as he ran out of the store. police say the man is in his 30's and they confirm he was tased third. he was rushed to northwestern but his condition is not known. those who saw him lying in the street say it did not look good. >> you're right inside and when we came out there were police cars everywhere. the just kept coming. there are four of their right now probably another six that came through after to the man was not moving and all. and within 10 or 50 minutes the ambulance came and put him on a stretcher and took him away. >> a source who witnessed the entire incident says it was an

unfortunate accident. he said the suspect was clearly resisting arrest when he was tased and fell face first into that's triple. he is at northwestern hospital. no word on his condition or the charges. back to you. >>a young woman from mundelein, and her college roommate, were stabbed during a robbery in minnesota. both of them are students at the university of minnesota. it happened early monday morning as the two women left a bar in minneapolis. a man in a ski mask demanded their money... when they handed it over, he stabbed them anyway. the roommate may have saved her friend's life, by wrapping a tourniquet around her friend's arm. the attacker got away. the high school basketball player who collapsed during a game on saturday, has died. 16 year old jermaine cullum was playing in a tournament in riverside. he had just made a layup, when he fell to the floor. he died three days later. an autopsy will be performed today. cullum was a student at "christ the king jesuit college prep".

nigeria is accepting help from the u-s in finding hundreds of girls who were kidnapped. but some say nigeria has been moving too slowly in this emergency. andrew spencer has more. >> let us about our heads for a moment of silence. >> the senate chaplain lead a moment of silence outside the u.s. capitol praying for the safe return of hundreds of girls who were kidnapped by militants in nigeria. for many, prayers alone are not enough. >> we are in the process of sending over counter-terrorism experts. we are sending over hostage negotiators and we are sending people who can assist with this crisis. >> some lawmakers have suggested sending troops. >> this is one of these operations which could involve special forces but it could also involve a un forces. i believe we can't let this go on. >> at the heart of the fourth kidnapping is a group the considered terrorist organization. boko haram means

western education is in. members overpowered guards at an all girls' school in nigeria and april 14th nearly 300 girls between ages 15-18 were taken from their beds. the leader has promised to sell them. demonstrations in support of the missing girls have been held from washington d.c. on. some parents have criticized the response to the deduction but officials say they're doing what they can. >> why not send in an army? we're fighting warfare. >> we will get those girls back. >>taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after a shooting on chicago's west side. police say 20-year-old chasteddy blocker was shot in the back at 4:30 yesterday afternoon in the 15-hundred block of south central park avenue in the lawndale

neighborhood. a man was also struck in the hip. both victims were driven in a car to the hospital ... where blocker later died. no word on any arrests. a father from romeoville 0remains in jail ... charged with driving drunk and causing a crash that killed his four-year-old son and injured his two other sons. a will county judge refused to lower the 750-thousand dollar bail for shannard dyer, despite pleas from relatives. they told the judge dyer would like to attend his son's funeral. taylor dyer was killed early sunday when his father's car rolled over on i-55 in bolingbrook. a former clerk for the village of burnham is charged with stealing 650-thousand dollars, and gambling it away. nancy dobrowski held the job for 30 years. federal prosecutors say for the past ten, she was skimming from the village cash register to pay for trips to casinos in indiana ... then altering the books to hide the thefts. she is charged with wire fraud and filing a false federal tax return. a panel of state lawmakers will investigate governor quinn's

controversial anti-violence program of 2010. it's the third probe into the program, enacted during quinn's last re-election campaign. critics say the entire program was little more than a 55- million dollar political slush fund, intended to make it appear that quinn was cracking down on neighborhood violence. quinn denies it... and he's trying to dismiss this new investigation as mere "politics as usual." a celebrated high school in the the city has put a stop to airport pickup by a ride share company. last friday, "uber-x" emailed its drivers ... telling them it was o-k to pick up people at both o'hare and midway. it instructed the drivers to use the "friends and family" pick-up lanes at the airports and avoid taxi lines and paying special city taxes. yesterday, the city said ride- sharing companies are not allowed to accept pick-up requests at the airports. they could be ticketed and have vehicles impounded, if they violate the city ordinance. the c-t-a will announce today that just about every one of its train cars has a security camera inside. cameras are now installed on more than 800 rail cars. c-t-a officials say they're already making a difference. they say crime is down in the

champaign, was injured in a "human chandelier" stunt. she got out of the hospital yesterday, and said she's thankful to be alive. at the moment, pitard is the only member of the troupe who has recovered well enough to stand on her own. the others are still in the hospital. this security video shows the teenage boy who flew to hawaii, inside an airplane's wheel well. you see the 15 year old drop down from the plane and walk around the tarmac. he boarded the plane after he hopped a fence at an airport in san jose last month. he survived a five hour flight with little oxygen and freezing temperatures. the boy is now in child protective services in california. he could still be charged with a crime. the white house was locked down after a car followed a motorcade carrying the first daughters into a secure area. the driver of the car had a security pass for the treasury department, which is located next to the white house. but he was not authorized to enter white house grounds. the driver was taken into custody yesterday afternoon,

and is said to be cooperating with investigators. his car was searched, but nothing was found. authorities say the president was never in danger. nasa has released new pictures taken on mars by the curiosity rover. this picture shows a hole drilled into a slab of martian sandstone monday night. it's just the third hole the rover has drilled since 2012. curiosity is now analyzing the powder from the hole and collecting rock samples. the samples could shed light on why and how mars transitioned from a relatively warm and wet world to the cold, dry place it is today. kind of like this place. when you first took this job and thought everything was warm and cozy. >> then they drill balls ... >> 55 degrees right now. we are going to warm up in the next few days. today and tomorrow we were month. 79 degrees in chicago much warmer south of the city. wind out of the east at 9 mi.. take your jacket and put it away today and tomorrow you won't need it until the weekend when
