surprised if your flight is delayed. o'hare and midway airports may suffer from after-effects of a complete ground stop yesterday, because of the sudden evacuation of a traffic control center. nancy loo is live at o'hare with more. >> with over 1100 flights canceled yesterday, it will be a long day of catch-up and more possible delays at o'hare and midway. as always for airports that feat in and out of chicago as well, fire crews were taking care of the smoky situation at the f a a facility. the cause turned out to be a faulty bathroom fan but the precautionary evacuation of air traffic controllers met a complete ground stop for all commercial flights in chicago for about three hours. the ripple effect across the country

was extensive altering the travel plans of thousands of passengers but most took it in stride. >> we got stock because it couldn't land here and then we had to refuel and then my first flight was canceled and then my second flight was canceled and the my third flight was canceled. >> the pilot said if there were any more delays the would have to land somewhere else for fuel. i'm glad they didn't have to do that. >> for today, aviation officials say there could be delays of about 90 minutes or more a both o'hare and midway and there could be more proactive cancellations just to allow the airlines to catch up from yesterday. a few seconds ago a peek at the board and there do seem to be a handful of cancellations already including to destinations like orlando and atlanta. the good news is,

things are moving. the security line is about to open. a lot of passengers are eager to get on their flight. many stayed the night. >>chicago's ground stoppage rippled across the country, and affected flight schedules out of other regional airports, like milwaukee's mitchell field. mitchell had to accept some incoming planes that couldn't land at o'hare or midway. an elderly passenger on one diverted flight, died while exiting his plane in milwaukee. the re-routing of the flight is not believed responsible for his death. many of the northern suburbs continue to dry out this morning, as flood waters slowly recede. route 41 near route 176 remains closed in lake bluff ... where flood waters cut off residents and several businesses yesterday. lake bluff received more than four inches of rain monday. people are cleaning up from sewer backups and flooding. one resident says it didn't take long for the sewer to back up into this basement. >> about 20 minutes into the

storm sewage started pumping out of the floor drain and the shower drain and at that point there was nothing you could do. the some pomp couldn't handle it and the whole basement just filled with sewage. >>lake bluff schools were closed yesterday due to the flooding. a flood warning continues along the des plaines river in lake county and in des plaines. albany park neighborhood are keeping an eye on the north branch of the chicago river. it's the same area that's seen bad flooding the past several years. yesterday, the river was forecasted to rise to seven feet, but that estimate has been lowered a bit. the city is working on a tunnel that would divert flood water away from the area, but it's still in the design stage and will not be built for two more years. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a man was killed after he was struck by a metra train in lagrange. a preliminary investigation suggests the man was trying to

cross the tracks when he was hit by an express train from chicago, at 7-30 last night. the man died at the scene. he was 66 years old, but his name has not been released. police are searching for two suspects in connection with at least two car jackings and a robbery in the streeterville neighborhood. the victims were all held up at gun point in parking garages over a three day period, starting on saturday. these pictures are similar to the cars that were taken. a window shattered after it came off a building in the loop yesterday. the building is on the 200 block of west randolph. the window fell from the 20-th floor, to the sidewalk on franklin between randolph and washington. no one was hurt. no one has confirmed if this was weather related. francis cardinal george is done with his cancer chemotherapy treatments. he needed three of them this time. the cardinal says they were strenuous, and he's glad they're over. cardinal george was first diagnosed with cancer of the bladder eight years ago. two years ago, the cancer attacked his kidney and liver. aggressive chemotherapy began in march, when *new cancer cells were detected in his kidney. an army staff sergeant, who once lived in barrington, has

been killed in kosovo. sergeant heidi ruh was found dead at a running track on friday. she was shot and killed in a non-combat related incident. ruh was assigned to the first medical brigade at fort hood and was deployed to kosovo in january. ruh last lived in illlinois about eight years ago. her family in wisconsin says they found out about her death last friday, but nothing else. >> we fought her worries were over she is going to a non house style area. >>ruh's death is still under investigation. she first joined the army eleven years ago as a bio-medical equipment specialist. she leaves behind two sons. a rescue operation continues after a fire kills 201 people inside a coal mine in turkey. the fire was caused by a transpormer explosion yesterday. more than 200 workers are still trapped in a mine shaft that's about two-thirds of a mile underground. nearly 90 people have been rescued. officials say fresh air is reaching parts of the mine where there was no fire. a three-member crew from the international space station is back on earth.

a rescue operation continues after an explosion kills 205 people inside a coal mine in turkey. more than 200 workers are still trapped in a mine shaft that's about two-thirds of a mile underground. nearly 90 people have been rescued. the fire is still burning and is preventing rescuers from reaching the victims. an army staff sergeant, who once lived in barrington, was shot and killed in kosovo. sergeant heidi ruh was found dead at a running track on friday. her death is under investigation. her family says they only know that she was shot during a non- combat incident. francis cardinal george is done a former lawyer from pennsylvania is an inmate at the prison where jesse jackson jr. was locked up until a transfer to alabama. the sun times reports the inmate recently wrote a letter to a tv station sharing details on jackson's time in prison saying that he considered scrubbing toilets to be part of his personal penance for his crime. jackson believes

the president should pardon him and many who served their sentence. he is serving to and a half years for missed spending campaign money. >> the husband of cook county circuit court clerk dorothy brown is in trouble with the state of illinois. benton cook has been presenting himself as a clinical psychologist, even though he has no license to practice in illinois. state regulators are demanding that he stop. cook is also under investigation for accepting and re-selling a free house from one of brown's political supporters... and for running a local community group that took money from governor quinn's controversial anti-crime initiative in 2010. cook did not respond to the tree. >> illinois legislative leaders are reviewing a plan to fix cook county's debt-ridden public employee pension system. to cut the debt, the county wants to trim retiree benefits, and require current employees to contribute a greater share of their pension costs. the plan is expected to win state approval. but it would leave almost 150 million dollars a year in recurring deficits that would

have to be made up with tax hikes. a man is in police custody after crashing a truck into a baltimore t-v station and keeping swat teams at bay for hours. employees at w-m-a-r say the man first tried to break into the lobby just before noon yesterday. he called himself god as he banged on the doors. he then left and stole a landscaping truck to plow through the front doors of the station. employees were evacuated for five hours as the swat team tried to lure the 27-year-old man from the second floor - where he watched t-v coverage of the ordeal. he was taken into custody and is undergoing a psychological exam. no charges have been filed. an employee of the t-s-a will accept a big award today, for heroic conduct. eddie palacios jumped onto the blue line subway tracks at chicago avenue last month when a woman fell off the plaftorm. he frantically waved an approaching train to a safe stop, just 20 feet away... and helped the woman to safety. today, palacios and seven other people will be honored by the secretary of homeland security with the award of valor. anonymous notes have showing up in lockers at a middle school in kentucky. now, the students behind them
