>> shoes did the scene. neighbors say a lot of small children play there and they need a speed bump to force charged to slow down. >>new overnight -- a freight train hit and seriously injured a man, early this morning in evergreen park. tonya francisco is live at the scene with more. >> investigators remain here on the scene. we are told the victim is in surgery at this hour. here's brought there in critical condition. but the nature of his injuries have not been released. here's what we know. police were called just before 1:00 this morning to the seventh. the victim was found wearing earphones and may not have heard the train. a spokeswoman for the railroad says they are where somebody was injured but the road is investigating whether the injuries were related to being

hit by the train or something else. hoping to know more in a few hours. the tree and suspected of hitting the man was heading south. it had allowed to continue its journey. it doesn't appear that the victim was crossing at the intersection of 87 and rockwell. he may have been somewhere in a residential area. as mentioned, the investigation continues. investigators are expected to be out here and hopefully we can get another update. back to you. >>the mother called police yesterday evening to say she had been shot, and that her sons were fighting. when officers arrived, the 81- year-old mother had the gun in her hand. her sons were found in the kitchen. robert grundei, who was visiting from florida, was dead. his older brother suffered a gunshot wound to the head,

possibly self-inflicted. >> so many of these cases of domestic violence, they are difficult to analyze why they take place but it's a very emotional situation. >>police are waiting for the man's condition to stabilize before questioning him. the mother was treated for a graze wound to the head. the family was mourning the death of the woman's third son, who drowned in a retention pond in deerfield earlier this month. police in south suburban dolton are searching for the person who shot three others ... including a 12-year-old boy. it happened near 143rd street and woodlawn avenue yesterday morning. a driver in a gold-colored chrysler 300 reportedly exchanged words with an unidentified man on a bicycle. he drove off, circled the car back around, and opened fire. a 21-year-old and a 17-year-old were shot. 12-year-old dajun edwards was hit in the right arm as he rode his bike. >> i think he had gotten hit. i

said the guard shot and he just panicked. blood was everywhere. >> i didn't feel it but i got shot well looked down. i never expected this to be me. >>all of the victims are expected to be o-k. police say the shooter's intended target was *not injured. authorities just released the satellite data people have been asking for since malaysia airlines flight 370 disappeared over two months ago. some say this could lead to new theories about the plane's location. andrew spencer has more. >> not sure of what to believe, family members of those on board that missing deletion flight now they finally have it. working with officials, the satellite company released data on tuesday that was used to determine where the missing plane might be. but it may not answer all the families questions. >> will people be able to take this data and recreate your

work? >> no. we do the work requires many different fields and we've gathered the experts for the investigation. this is providing transparency into what day they came back from the plane and the station and held it can be used. >> the search for the plane has most recently surfaced in the ocean but a lack of public information has sent many people questioning why. they're confident there and looanalysiss correct. >> it's been checked and check. at the moment there's no reason to doubt what the data is showing. >> the underwater search for the plane will effectively be put on hold this week as a grown-up wraps up its work in a few days. australian officials say could be two months or more before other underwater vehicles are contacted and deployed in the search for the flight. >>there is at least a shred of

hope this morning, for the families of more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls in nigeria. the nigerian military says it knows where the islamist group "boko haram" is holding the girls. the teenager, most of them christian, were taken from school at gunpoint last month. military officials warn that an armed assault on the kidnapper'' hideout is too risky, and many of the girls could be killed. for now, the military is keeping its plans a secret... but a top mlitary official says, the girls will be rescued. the trial of a teenager accused of killing a child while driving under the influence begins today. carly rousso is charged with reckless homicide and d-u-i. prosecutors say she was high from inhaling a computer cleaning solvent, when she hit a woman and her three children in highland park on labor day two years ago. 5-year-old jaclyn santos- sacramento was killed. her family filed a civil suit against rousso, which it settled a year ago. you can watch the bench trial *live, starting at nine on c- l-t-v, or online at w-g-n t-v dot com. rousso faces up to 19 years in prison, if convicted.

burglars broke into an elementary school and stole 141 i-pads. the burglary happened at charles hughes elementary, in north lawndale, just after midnight yesterday. police say at least two people broke windows outside and inside a room on the second floor. no arrests have been made, and police didn't release a description of any suspects. the stolen i-pads are valued at over 70-thousand dollars. a lightning strike may have caused a building's facade to fall off. it happened at marty's martini bar, on the 15-hundred block of west balmoral, in andersonville. police closed off the area after pieces of the building came off. no one was hurt. customers inside the bar say they thought the building was hit by lightning, but that's not confirmed. >> it was pretty nice yesterday. despite that bit of rain. >> warm temperatures. a bit of rain but no strong report. no damage across the region. better chance of rain comes this afternoon. in some areas we do need that grain. it's 72 degrees

day by laying a wreath at tomb of the unknown soldier at arlington national cemetery. he also addressed the department of veterans affairs scandal over long wait times and secret record-keeping. >> here on these grounds we rededicate ourselves to our sacred obligation to all who wear america's uniform. we have been reminded in recent days we must do more for our veterans to make sure they get the care and benefits and opportunities that they earned and that they deserve. >>secretary of veterans affairs, eric shinseki, attended the ceremony ... despite demands from some lawmakers and veterans groups that he should resign. governor quinn also took part in memorial day events yesterday. he marched in the park ridge memorial day parade to honor fallen soldiers. his challenger in the november election, republican bruce rauner was at an event in arlington heights. >> important to remember all our veterans. all those who served our country. the protected our

democracy. for those who do it it's important that we always take care of our service members and veterans. >> he chose not to make any public statements yesterday. >>three men are still missing, after a four-mile-long mudslide swept through the colorado rockies. it happened in grand mesa national forest, about 200 miles west of denver. the men were there to check on a *small mudlslide, when the larger one swept them away. a week of heavy rain left an entire ridge unstable. the disaster area is about two miles wide and 250 feet deep. that section of the mountains has been under an advisory warning that heavy rain, combined with snowmelt, could make ground conditions hazardous. nine people were hurt -- one critically -- after a tornado struck an oil worker camp in north dakota. the tornado struck the camp about five miles south of watford city yesterday.. destroying eight trailers where the workers lived. while rescue crews continue to look through debris, authorities say they are confident no one else is missing. and flash flooding in parts of san antonio made for pretty dangerous driving conditions

yesterday the rains caused several road closures.. and even caused small creeks and streams to overflow. in north-west lubbock, texas.. the flooding submerged cars in parking lots. officials say there were also some reports of small tornadoes in the area. no one was hurt. a man in florida has quite a fish tale to tell. he made an extremely rare catch, and has the pictures to prove it. >> as i got a closer it did look that they put that we get closer to tell how huge it was. it's a rare species never seen one in person or even any pictures. >> was with all these guys catching sharks? it took dustin richter and four of his friends more than an hour to reel in a saw shark on sunday. it's an endangered species with a saw-like snout. the shark put up a good fight, but not before the guys got a few photos with it. then, the shark swam off. >> take a picture than let it go. that's what i'm talking about. looking at our day. 70

pfizer, the biggest u.s. drugmaker, has abandoned its efforts to take over the british pharmaceutical company, astra zeneca. pfizer withdrew its latest unsolicited offer of nearly 120 billion dollars. astra zeneca's board rejected pfizer's offers four times over the past few weeks, saying the bids were not high enough. pfizer would not say if it will try again... but industry analysts expect another move in a few months... after a mandatory three-month waiting period. time for sports. a year ago, the blackhawks were down three- one to detroit before winning three straight to advance in the playoffs... now they'll have to do it again. patrick kane moved to the top line with jonathan toews in game four. hawks on the power play early... marian hossa makes a nice move in front but jonathan quick makes the save... hawks went oh- for- three on the power play still scoreless later in the period and a kings' power play now... corey crawford gets screened and jake muzzin scores his fifth of the playoffs. hawks down two later in the

hawks down two later in the period... kings on another power play and dustin brown scores on the wide open net. brandon saad and bryan bickell scored late, but the hawks went oh- for- three on power plays. hawks lose 5-2 and trail the series three- one. new overnight... a freight train hit and seriously injured a man, early this morning in evergreen park. tonya francisco is live at the scene with more. good morning. able to get a few more details about this morning. we saw that the victim may have been crossing at the gates at 87th and rockwell. now we learn he was actually walking alongside the railroad when he was hurt. police have wrapped up this portion of the investigation collecting evidence. at last check we understand the victim was in the surgery having suffered serious or critical injuries but the

nature of those injuries have not been released. what we do know about what happened, police tell us they were called just before 1:00 this morning to the area a sergeant on the scene says the victim was found wearing earphones and may not have heard the train coming. the train was heading south to the area there is a no horn the zones of the conductor may not have been allowed to blow his horn to let him know he was coming by we did see the road crossing gates signals down as the train was approaching so we do know those are working. a spokeswoman for the railroad says that she is a where someone was injured this morning but the railroad is doing their own investigation to determine whether the injuries were related to being hit by the train. we should have more details in a few hours. but in talking to the investigators, it does appear the man was walking

along the tracks. not paying attention. could not hear because he had his earphones on and that seems to be what happened. trains have been allowed to continue on. that part of the investigation has wrapped up. but what happened here, that investigation does continue. >> taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a south shore family is grieving, after a 19-month-old girl darted into the path of a c-t-a bus, and died. it happened yesterday near 77- th and south shore drive. cherish upshaw was with her mother and a neighbor. when neither was watching, she ran out into the street. the bus driver swerved... but the side of the bus knocked down cherish, and pinned her beneath the wheels. she died at the scene. a man is dead, and his mother and brother were injured, in a shooting during a domestic dispute in far northwest suburban huntley. the man who was killed was from florida. he was in town to attend a funeral for his other brother, who drowned in a retention pond.

police will question the surviving brother when his condition improves. they say his gunshot wound was likely self-inflicted. police in south suburban dolton are searching for the person who shot three others. the shooter opened fire while driving near 143rd street and woodlawn ave yesterday morning. a 21-year-old and a 17-year-old were shot. 12-year-old dajun edwards was hit in the right arm as he rode his bike. all of the victims are expected to be o-k. police say the shooter's intended target was *not injured. the extension of the temporary income tax increase appears to be dead, but no spending cuts are being planned.. state lawmakers are now working on a budget that keeps spending at current levels, even though some bills will increase next fiscal year. house speaker michael madigans says the new budget will rely on "natural revenue growth" and other accounting moves. families of the victims aboard malaysia airlines flight 370 now have the raw data that they've been waiting for. it's been over two months since

the airliner disappeared, with 239 people on board. this morning, authorities four months ago the ban on gun shops was unconstitutional. >>a 99-year-old woman just got the college diploma she earned 75 years ago. jesse rose jones lives in belfast, maine. in 1939, she earned her degree in stenography and bookkeeping from beal business school. but since she couldn't afford the 5-dollar processing fee, she didn't get the degree... until a friend contacted the school. school officials were more than happy to give her the diploma... a cap and gown... and even a graduation party. the college president paid the 5-dollar fee personally. >> such a good role model to show the value of education. >> i don't intend to give up. >>jesse rose says she loves surfing the web, and learning everything she can.

general who founded decoration day -- the predecessor to memorial day. senator mark kirk awarded a posthumous bronze star to the family of a world war two hero. in arlington heights, senator kirk awarded john w. bock with the military's honor for valor. the award was given to bock's cousin, who petitioned on his behalf after bock died four years ago. the family believes bock earned his bronze star in the battle of the bulge, but official records were destroyed in a fire at the pentagon in the 19-60's. bock worked as an aeronautical engineer, after the war. pope francis speaking out about sexual abuse say he plans to meet with victims next month. he made his comments on a flight back to rome from the middle east say he's calling for a zero tolerance for sexual abuse saying that it betrays the body of the lord. three bishops are under investigation but not clear if they are accused of
