game 6. hopefully--i mean game 7. there will be home for game 7 and hopefully we will be here celebrating another when as the head on the road back to the stanley cup finals. i can dream. back to you. >>a woman slammed her s-u-v into a 7-eleven store in palos heights. it happened at 8:30 last night at the 7-eleven on 119th and south harlem. there was one employee and a customer inside. authorities say alcohol was *not a factor. >> there was an employee behind the counter by the window she was not injured. she was narrowly mixed. but she was ok. >>no injuries were reported. the store is still closed this morning. chicago police bomb and arson investigators are looking into a string of suspicious fires on the south side. about 20 vehicles were torched during a six hour period early yesterday morning, while they

were parked in the englewood and marquette park neighborhoods. the vehicles were entered without any windows being broken. items inside were set on fire. investigators say accelerants were not used, just a flame. some of the victims said they did not lock their doors. >> i woke up this morning it was in flames. >> we heard popping noises we didn't know what was golan but looked out the window. >> no suspects in custody. >>francis cardinal george is scheduled to give a deposition today in lawsuits involving a former priest and convicted sex offender. the deposition could take the place of testimony during a trial. the cardinal will be asked about what he knew about daniel mccormack's criminal behavior. a review board of lay people voted overwhelmingly to remove mccormack in 2005. the cardinal has been criticized for keeping mccormack in charge of his west side parish. mccormack was arrested on may 22nd on new sexual abuse charges. the archdiocese has spent millions of dollars to settle cases against him. three officers have been fired

for their role in the death of an inmate at the lake county jail more than two years ago. 51-year old eugene gruber of grayslake was arrested in october of 2011. he died in march of 2012 from pneumonia, which resulted from spine injuries suffered in an altercation with officers. his death was ruled a homicide. as a result, 96 new body cameras have been ordered for correctional officers to wear when dealing with incidents at the jail. no criminal charges were ever filed against the officers. we miss read statements and actions he says he entered things we didn't pay attention to it. identifying the need for amplified training. >> no criminal charges were ever filed against the officers. the county has already settled a lawsuit with gruber's family for almost two-million dollars. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a 20-year-old man gets a 68- year prison sentence for the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy. vito richmond was the third man

sentenced for the drive-by murder of darius brown. it happened in 2011, as brown played basketball at metcalfe park, at 42-nd and state. two other men were previously given 50-year sentences for their roles in the murder. former congressman mel reynolds is back in chicago after months in south africa, where he was jailed on pornography charges and for having an expired visa. reynolds was accused of possessing lewd pictures on his cell phone. those charges were later dropped on a technicality. he is now planning to sue several news outlets in chicago for slander and defamation, but did not say which ones. mayor emanuel is not allowing the cubs to present their revised renovation plans for wrigley field to the city's landmarks commission next week. the cubs want to add seven new electronic signs to the outfield, and move the bullpens to under the bleachers. the mayor says his administration is just learning about some of the drastic changes, and it will not be rushed into making a decision. the white house will host a gathering of athletes, coaches, parents, sportscasters and medical researchers today.

they'll look for ways to further publicize the dangers of sports-related concussions. when it's over, president obama is expected to call for more medical research, and more spending on public awareness campaigns. chicago ranks *15-th in a new report of the country's fittest cities. the american college of sports medicine's study found people in chicago are smoking less, exercising more, and taking public transportation. people in our area are walking and biking to work more ... and are eating more fruit and vegetables. in 2013, chicago ranked 27th. washington d-c was named the fittest city. >> we jumped up 14 places. >> that a lot of kale. >> are you in there? >> i am here. earlier today we're talking about temperatures up in the low 60s across much of the area. some areas are in the

nbc the government tried to downplay his role. >> i was trained as a spy in the traditional sense in that i lived and worked undercover, overseas pretending to work in a job that i was not. even being assigned a name that was not mine. >> he claims to have even worked as a lecturer at the joint counterintelligence training academy. during his interview with nbc it was the first of his after leaking the classified document almost a year ago which sparked a national debate about privacy and the surveillance programs used by the cia. talking in moscow and he stresses that he is not working with the russian government because he no longer has any material left to give. he says he destroyed it. >> to make sure that for example corruptions can't break my fingers and compromise information or hit me with a bag of money until i give it to them. >> he did make a recent appearance on russian state

time for sports. coach quenneville paired brandon saad and patrick kane on the second line for game five... and it may have saved the season. the hawks finally scored a power play goal in the first. up two- one on the kings later in the period... saad scores off the rebound for his fifth goal of the playoffs... he also had two assists.

for the first time in two years. they also move a game above five- hundred. edwin jackson had nine strikeouts in san francisco. still scoreless in the sixth when pablo sandoval hits one back up the middle and a run scores for the giants. the cubs only manage two hits and lose five- nothing. they've been shut-out the last twenty innings. other notes... the pacers beat the heat to force a game six in the eastern conference finals. and tiger woods will not play in the u-s open as he still recovers from back surgery. check this out ... englewood native taylor townsend pulled off a major upset at the french open. she defeated france's top player, alize cornet, to move on to the third round. cornet is ranked 21-st, and townsend is ranked 205-th. townsend grew up on the south side, but she moved a few years ago. at 18 years old, she's now the youngest american woman to make it this far in eleven years. her next match is tomorrow against 15-th ranked carla suarez navarro.

the s&p 500, dow jones industrial average and nasdaq all ended the day in the red. the dow fell 42 points, and the nasdaq dropped just under 12 ... and the s & p down 2. doctor dre is joining forces with apple. apple is buying dre's "beats electronics" and "beats music." "beats electronics" is perhaps best known for its industry- leading beats headphones and speakers. almost a year ago. the u-s state department says instead of giving interviews, he should come home and have his day in court. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. the murder trial d'andre howard is underway. he is charged in the 2009 stabbing deaths of his ex- girlfriend's sister, father and grandmother at their home in hoffman estates. amanda engelhardt and her mother shelly testified against howard yesterday. defense attorneys admit he carried out the fatal stabbings... but they blame it on a mental illness. francis cardinal george delivers a deposition today, in lawsuits involving a former priest and convicted sex offender. the cardinal will be asked what he knew about daniel mc- cormack's criminal behavior. george has been criticized for keeping mc-cormack at the helm of his west side parish. the archdiocese has spent millions, to settle cases against him. mc-cormack was arrested last week on i*new sexual abuse charges. false alarm for an illinois man thought to have mers. the centers for disease control announced the new diagnosis. health officials thought the man contracted middle-eastern-

respiratory-syndrome after a business meeting with a traveler. more blood tests showed he had a clean bill of health. the man would have been the third case of the virus in the u-s. the kennedy expressway will be closed for several days at a time next month. that's because the old ontario bridge over the kennedy will be torn down and hauled away. from the evening of june 13-th to the morning of the 16-th, all inbound traffic will be shut down from chicago to grand. then, between the 20-th and the 23-rd, the *outbound kennedy from grand to chicago will be closed. and from the 27-th to the 30- th, the inbound kennedy exit ramp to the ohio street feeder will be closed. again, this is all *weekend work... and if all goes according to schedule, it shouldn't affect any weekday rush hour traffic. either way it's no fun. in chicago city's council passed

new standards for alternative taxis likelyft and uber . now have to get shoppers licenses. the companies they work for will be involved in logging their hours. the taxi company still say it's unfair. >> the majority of the people driving cabs every single day are people who are struggling to make ends meet. this ordinance will hurt the hard-working men and women that are driving cabs every single day. >> the ordinance goes into affect san fransisco is fighting back, to try to coax george lucas to build his new movie memorabilia and cultural arts museum on the west coast, instead of in chicago. he's being offered prime land near the san francisco bay bridge. lucas' people recently toured that property and several others.

*chicago is offering lucas property between mc-cormick place and the city's museum campus. lucas has homes in both cities. he's expected to make his decision this summer. you can argue that starbucks charges too much. it gets worse when your drink is more complicated. this could be the most expensive starbucks drink ever. a customer was getting a free beverage so he decided to milk it for all it's worth. the 128 ounces from pacino made with 60 shots. that would normally cost $64.75. the customer apparently said it was delicious. >> he is still awake right now. >> some mornings erin comes in and acted like she drank all that. >> the call those pile drivers out there actually is a plow driver. >> coffee or tequila? >> i thought that was an alcoholic drink. >> we only drink coffee in the

forbes magazine has released its list of the world's most powerful women. german chancellor angela merkel has taken the number one spot for fourth year in a row. merkel was elected as her country's first female leader in 2005, and her name has appeared on the list nine times in its 10-year existence. right behind merkel at number 2 is janet yellen, chair of the u-s federal reserve bank. followed by melinda gates-- co- chair of the bill & melinda gates foundation. hillary clinton was ranked number 6 and first lady michelle obama ranked number 8. angelina jolie took the 17th spot on the list.

you would be number 18?social media is paying off for people following a complete stranger on twitter. a man is hiding envelopes with cash in his very own scavenger hunt. he's been putting the money in random places and tweets out their locations. that leads to a swarm of people who go out looking for it. so far nearly four-thousand dollars have been found. >> that is great. >> we got some money! >> that was the best sound bite ever. we got some money. the man behind this says this is just a social experiment that he doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. >> that was great. >> hilarious. that's a real follower right there. >> i know a way to get real followers, get some money. >> use those wgn envelops.
