and june 6th 1944 in the event that marked a turning point in world war two as allied troops invade normandy. today on this anniversary the world pauses to remember and honor those involved. >> welcome our viewers watching as around the country and of course on the web. it was the biggest invasion in history. more than 5000 ships and 11,000 planes carrying soldiers to battle. president obama was in france today with other world leaders to mark the 70th anniversary. more than 150,000 americans and allied troops stormed the beaches to liberate europe from nazi germany. nearly 4500 lost their lives.
