electrocuted by a metra train in south suburban university park. judy wang is *live at the metra station with more. >> good morning. university park police and fire department are declining to discuss what happened. investigators and not releasing the boy's name or age. metra said he was one of two children that went into the railyard. this happened at about 7:00 p.m. the railyard is set to 30 1/3 and governor's highway in the south suburbs station. the spokesman for metra says the boy climbed on top of a parked on occupied train he may have jumped up there and was electrocuted. pronounced dead before nine. police are waiting for autopsy results from the coroner's office. the rail yard and the station are located at the end of the metra electric district line. service was stopped to last night because of the

incident. shuttle buses were run from university park. a spokesman says the service or this morning's rush hour should be back to normal. back to you. >>three people were shot and injured as they stood on a sidewalk in bronzeville. it happened at 11:30 last night near the intersection of 50th street and michigan avenue. police say a man on a bicycle rode up to the victims and starting shooting. a 17-year-old girl was shot in the leg. another girl was shot in the ankle. a 19-year-old man also suffered graze wounds to his ankle and thigh. all of the victims are expected to recover. no arrests have been made. a man tried to lure two children into his s-u-v. it happened last night on the 20-hundred block of north tripp. the driver tried to talk to a six year old and a seven year old, while showing them a gun. both children did not talk to the stranger and ran for safety instead. police only have a vague description of the driver, but they did say his s-u-v was white with black tape on the windows. two young brothers from gary drowned while playing in a water hole near their home. 9-year-old donel smith and his

brother, 8-year-old terrion, went with their ten-year-old uncle and several other children to an area known as "the pit" near the border of the gary and hobart on saturday night. neighbors say the property was being excavated and there were "no trespassing" signs posted. their uncle says it was their first time there ... and he tried to save the boys when he saw them go under water. >> i got up and try to pull them out but it was too far. >> it was head to toe sand from them. >>witnesses say terrion went under water first, and his brother drowned while trying to save him. a three-year-old boy from rockford also drowned while visiting relatives in far southwest morris. the grundy county coroner says liam vaughn drowned in an above- ground swimming pool sunday afternoon. his mother had reportedly gone inside the home to check on other children. liam's father was talking with other adults nearby when the boy slipped into the pool and disappeared. iraq's air force has begin a series of air strikes against islamist militants who seized

al-shabaab has been blamed for several deadly attacks in kenya since last fall. a federal magistrate holds a hearing today in whether chicago may emerge from the hiring restrictions of the shakman decree. a federal monitor says, one last hurdle remains. city aldermen are balking at a directive from mayor emanuel that city employees, fired or forced out for misconduct, may not be given jobs at the city's sister agencies -- the c-t-a, the park district, or chicago public schools. despite the aldermen's resistance, the federal monitor will tell the judge, the city has essentially *met its requirement to get politics out of most city hiring. governor pat quinn has signed a new law banning police ticket quotas. the new law prevents police departments from assigning officers a specific number of tickets to issue in a given period of time. it also stops agencies from comparing police officers based on how many tickets they write. governor quinn says this will allow police to use their own judgment in deciding whether to ticket a driver. kennedy expressway should be

normal, with no lingering effects of the weekend project to take down part of the old ontario street bridge. the first phase of the project went faster than expected... by late saturday evening the inbound kennedy at the bridge was reopened. and by late yesterday afternoon the ohio feeder ramp was reopened. >> traffic is flowing nicely i've had no problems. >> it's beautiful. everything is all done and ready to go. >>this coming weekend, the *outbound kennedy will be closed at the bridge. and if demolition goes at the same pace, the road crews will even finish the work that was originally scheduled to require a *third weekend. next weekend's work on the kennedy will shut all the outbound lanes from grand to odgen. it begins friday evening at 9. outbound traffic will be detoured around the work zone. and the ramp from the inbound eisenhower to the outbound kennedy will be closed. once again, i-dot officials are urging weekend visitors to the city ot take public transit. one family takes unity to a whole new level. four siblings decided to combine their weddings into one!

a thousand homes in central california are being threatened by a new wildfire. it's being called the "shirley fire." five hundred residents of kern county, near bakersfield, were ordered saturday to evacuate their homes. the fire is only 10-percent contained. and western winds, combined with drought-like conditions, are raising the risk that the fire could spread fast. there is still to word on how the fire started. several children are seriously injured after a explosion during a parade in utah over the weekend. three children, ages ten through 12, were part of a civil war re-enactment group that were taking part in a parade in orem, utah saturday. the group fired off a cannon and witnesses say embers from the cannon landed on a pouch containing additional charges for the cannon and exploded. the children then caught fire. they were taken to local hospitals in stable condition. jet-blue is apologizing to a mother after her daughter was denied use of a bathroom during a flight. a flight was on the runway, at j-f-k airport, when it got delayed, last week.

that's when a three year old girl had to use the bathroom. but when her mother tried to take her, a flight attendant ordered them back to their seats. the girl wound up wetting herself on the seat. her mother says the flight attendant yelled at her again when she stood up while trying to clean up the mess. >> she said i'm a mom as well i know what you're going through i'm sorry this happened to. i don't care about a voucher that doesn't matter to me. i did want an apology for my family because we felt like we were not treated right and we felt awful about it. >>jetblue offered the mother a 50-dollar voucher and five- thousand dollars toward the charity of her choice. it also tweeted out that the crew followed f-a-a rules regarding airplanes on the tarmac. as crowds cheer during world cup matches in brazil, riot police are dealing with protesters outside the stadium. police fired tear gas and stun grenades as the crowd moved closer to the stadium. this demonstration started peacefully as a way to raise awareness of social issues. the protesters say the people of rio are not benefitting from

amid concerns about the conflict in iraq. still... the dow rose 41. the nasdaq gained 13. and the s-and-p added six. target is apologizing for a major technical problem that shutdown their checkout systems at stores across the country last night. customers took to social media complaining about long lines, saying the cashiers could only accept cash for purchases. the problem prevented the use of all debit and credit cards. target says they identified the glitch and it is not related to a security issue. they say the problem is now fixed. starbucks is giving its employees a new job perk. the coffee giant is partnering with arizona state university's online studies program to offer tuition reimbursement. the new benefit will cover two full years of internet courses at a-s-u. both full and part-time employees will be eligible. starbucks says it isn't sure how much the program will cost ... but a spokesman estimated the benefit is equal to about 30- thousand-dollars per employee.

attended the of the boy. the coroner says he was pronounced dead just before 9:00 last night. at this point we have not left yet learned what led up to the incident specifically how the boy managed to get on top of the train. we are at 233rd and governor's highway where there is a real yard and a station. the metra spokesman says the boy was one of two kids who went into the rail yard around 7:00 coming up and they had jumped on top of a parked train which was not occupied then electrocuted. the coroner's office schedule the autopsy for today to officially confirm that it was the cause of death. this is the end of the metra electric this decline the transit agency stop service at the university park station and operated shuttle bus between the stock service for the commute returns to normal this morning. university park police and firefighters are

tour account. >> let's let that one sink in. for money ... a black bear is continuing his journey across northern check this out ... he was spotted yesterday in chana, illinois -- about 90- miles west of chicago. trisha plescia saw the bear walking through her front yard. there have been several sightings of the bear over the past month. just last week he was spotted in dekalb county... and before that he was roaming through rockford. wildlife experts say it's a male bear, most likely from wisconsin or minnesota. and he's probably looking for a mate. the state has no plans to capture the bear unless it poses a threat. experts say it's unlikely they'll roam in chicago any time soon famous last words. >>calling something *gourmet may not help you stomach any of these dishes.. check out these pictures from photographer christopher testani. this is part of a food art project called "invasive species." each dish is made with a pest, as a way to prevent overpopulation.

a little girl and her family say they were ordered to leave a k-f-c restaurant in mississippi. and here's why. two months ago, three pitbulls attacked 3-year-old victoria wilcher. her face was badly scarred... her jaw was broken... and she lost her right eye. she was going out for dinner with her family after being released from the hospital, when a k-f-c worker in jackson said she couldn't stay. >> she said that we had to leave because there were disturbing the other customers. because her face was disturbing other customers. >>k-f-c's corporate office says the restaurant employee acted improperly. victoria's family says it will never set foot in another k-f-c restaurant. a close call for one skydiving pilot in southern illinois. 21-year-old shawn kinmartin had to jump from his plane as it spiraled out of control on saturday. he was about 12- thousand feet in the air when the parachute of one of the skydivers struck part of the plane, causing major malfunctions.
