mecham goes to 53. expect some plain blockages and a bit of a squeeze they are working on those signals. other than that south bound 53 from 4 until we have a long term project that has been in place causing delays. more on the river walk coming under 10 minutes. >>crews will resume their search for a man missing in the fox river after the ultra light aircraft he was riding in crashed late last night. the aircraft went down in the fox river near the dayton dam in lasalle county at about ten last night. the lasalle county sheriff's department says the man who was piloting the aircraft was able to get out of the river and was taken to the hospital. his condition is unknown. his passenger was trapped in the ultra light. the government of iraq is refuting the claim that islamist

militants seized control of the country's largest oil refinery. the insurgents from "i-sis" -- also called "i-sil" -- are clearly on the march. secretary of state john kerry says, iraqi leaders can choke off public support for the militants, by improving the country's political climate. kerry pledged substantial america diplomatic and military aid -- provided the iraqis are willing to help themselves. >> it is essential that the leaders formed a genuinely inclusive government as rapidly as possible with in their own constitutional framework. they threaten the stability of the entire region and it is a threat also to the united states. >>with "i-sis" gradually closing in on baghdad, kerry warns that american air strikes on "i-sis" targets could come at any time. another fallen soldier from the chicago area will be laid to rest today. yesterday, family and friends of private first class aaron toppen, of mokena, gathered in orland park for his visitation service. toppen was just 19... but those who knew him best, say he made a big impact.

>> it can be quantified. i know a hero i know a great man. >> it had to set for those of love i sacrifice. and he did that. >>toppen was on patrol in afghanistan when his unit was ambushed. air support was called in. but the coalition warplanes mistakenly fired on the americans. toppen was killed. his funeral begins at 10-am at orland park's parkview christian church. he'll be buried in saint john's cemetery in mokena. longtime chicago alderman ed burke has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery later this week. burke has scheduled the surgery for thursday so he won't miss the city council meeting tomorrow. burke has never missed a council meeting during his 45 years on the council. >> he probably thinks the city can't run without him but they have before. he is unlikely to completely disappear from the

scene. he may take it easy he may take awhile to come back. but he has not been vanquished and this disease will not be the end of ed burke. >>the former police officer, now lawyer joined the city council in 1969. he could discuss his cancer treatment at an unrelated news conference later this morning. burke is 70 years old. a defrocked priest who served prison time for sexually abusing children pled not guilty to new charges against him. daniel mccormack is facing three counts of felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse. prosecutors say he fondled a 10-year-old boy on several occasions in 2005, while the boy was participating in an after-school program at saint agatha. the boy did not report the abuse until last year. mccormack pled guilty to abusing five boys in 2007. he was sentenced to prison then admitted into a mental health facility, where he remains. he is due back in court next month. taking a look at the *other

top stories this morning. a legislative panel will question seven key people about governor quinn's controversial anti-violence program, which was launched in the run-up to his last re-election campaign. director barbara shaw and several administrators of the "neighborhood recovery initiative" will answer accusations that the 55-million dollar campaign was little more than a political slush fund for quinn. chicago public schools is proposing several changes to its discipline policy, in hopes of reducing the number of suspensions and keeping more students in the classroom. the proposed changes include no more suspensions for students caught using cell phones in class, eliminating suspensions in pre-k through second grade and eliminating mandatory expulsions for students below sixth grade except for weapons violations. the board of education will vote on the proposed changes tomorrow. the f-b-i is looking for a man who robbed a bank in wicker park at gun point, while wearing a security shirt. it happened at the north community bank in the 15- hundred block of north damen yesterday morning.

no one was hurt. this man is accused of firing nine gunshots at another vehicle on the dan ryan expressway. dantrel fuller is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm. police say fuller shot at a volvo near 71-st street sunday night, causing it to hit another car. the driver wasn't hurt. police say they found a gun in fuller's car after they stopped him nearby. chicago bears defensive lineman cornelius washington was arrested in georgia after he was caught speeding and driving with a suspended license. washington was arrested friday near augusta. he was briefly taken to jail and paid fines for both misdemeanor offenses. the bears drafted washington out of the university of georgia last year. he played in two games last season. washington was arrested in 2011 for speeding and driving under the influence. one of muhammad ali's daughters is teaming up with a boxing club in chicago to fight gang violence. rasheda ali- walsh visited the celtic boxing club on the south side yesterday. she is helping the club raise scholarship money for its youth boxing initiative, by organizing a charity boxing exhibition on thursday. ali-walsh says it's important

to provide young people a positive environment, so they are not wandering the streets. her cousin was shot and killed in chicago back in 1997. the next viewing party for the world cup will be at a different site from the other two. thousands of people gathered at hutchinson field and balbo drive to watch the first two games. up to 20-thousand people attended sunday's game. now the crowd will be invited to the petrillo band shell for u-s-a versus germany, thursday at eleven o'clock. gates open at ten. the u-s needs a win, or a tie, to guarantee a spot in the next round. scoring has gone up in this year's world cup, but the players are not getting all the credit. the adidas brazuca is the ball being used at this year's tournament, which has 40- percent more goals than the last one. a few reasons could be the ball's surface. the brazuca has longer, deeper seams and a rougher surface. this wind tunnel test at nasa shows how this ball has less wind drag, so it'll travel faster. the ball also gives more of a hook when it's kicked, which can make it less predictable. all of that can be good for

the couple accused of killing three people in las vegas earlier this month, including two officers. authorities say jerad and amanda miller were heavily armed and wore adult diapers. the couple was found with four handguns and a shot gun, some of which were bought by amanda when they lived in indiana. the couple died after a 15- minute shootout with police inside a wal-mart. authorities say they smashed a sporting-goods case to get more ammunition ... and, of the 52 shots fired inside the store, 36 came from the couple. investigators say the shopper who was killed was trying to pull out his own handgun, which he was licensed to carry. the f-b-i says it rescued 168 children in a nationwide crackdown of child sex trafficking. one girl is just eleven years old. the rescues happened in more than 100-cities last week. 281-people were arrested. they include two men accused of forcing teenage girls into prostitution in aurora.

officials say they know there are more victims, but someone needs to report them. the f-b-i says 36-hundred children have been rescued from sex trafficking since 2008. quick-thinking residents saved the lives of several people including a baby, during a raging fire at an apartment building in colorado. the rescue was caught on camera yesterday morning. they tied together sheets and then put a mattress in the back of a pick-up truck and had their trapped neighbors jump onto the mattress. eight people were injured in the blaze... including one critically. arson is suspected as the cause of the fire. a woman in seattle still has her car, thanks to a great anti- theft device... a stick shift. three teenagers confronted nancy fredrickson, stuck a gun in her face, and demanded her car keys. then they jumped into her car and tried to drive away. but none of them knew how to negotiate a five-speed manual transmission. so there they sat... until they just gave up and ran away. police say the would-be driver left his fingerprints on the shift knob.

just a few minutes. >> a man is presumed dead after an ultra light glider crashed in the fox river in lasalle county. nancy loo is *live at the scene in dayton, illinois, with more. >> good morning. the ultra light craft is still in the river lodged in a shallow area. it's right near the didn't dim. the waters are too dangerous for crews to recover that passenger. the fire chief tells me that the craft crashed into river around 8:30 p.m.. the pilot was able to get out of its hardness and reached the shore. he suffered cuts and is now hospitalized at st. elizabeths hospital in ottawa. condition not known. he

more inclusive government. president obama gave russia a warning about what it's being doing in ukraine. the ukrainian government continues to battle pro-russian separatists. the white house says president obama warned russian president vladimir putin that russia faced new sanctions unless it stopped arming the separatists. the state department says russian tanks are being prepared to cross the border. russia says putin is stressing a ceasefire and direct talks for both sides. one chicago alderman is calling for a hearing on a city deal to allow researchers to put sensors up in the city. alderman bob fioretti says mayor emanuel should have gotten city council approval to install sensors on light poles along michigan avenue. they will measure air quality, sound volume and other environmental information. but fioretti is concerned about privacy, because the sensors will also count people using wireless signals on their mobile devices.

loss of the mill's boss had no information to offer. >> yet another scandal is emerging at the veterans administration. a federal investigator reviewed reports from whistleblowers at v-a hospitals, and found what she calls a troubling pattern of deficient patient care. cancelled doctor appointments weren't rescheduled... patients were served tainted water, and contracted legionnaire's disease. one vet at a mental facility received no psychiatric exam for eight years. and the investigator says, the v-a didn't take the whisleblowers' complaints seriously. the v-a promises the results of a full departmental review in two weeks. a new report says a slow response by police and prosecutors held back charges against jerry sandusky. sandusky is in prison for sexual abusing ten boys for more than a decade. an investigation by pennsylvania's attorney general's office says communication problems and slow execution of search warrants held the case back by three years. the report says the response

was not political. an independent hearing examiner is recommending that sandusky get his state pension reinstated. the examiner says sandusky was not a state employee when rules that forfeited pensions because of sex crimes were put in place. sterling versus sterling today in a pre-trial hearing over ownership of the los angeles clippers. donald sterling is fighting his estranged wife's sale of the team to former microsoft ceo steve ballmer. sterling's lawyers filed court papers showing the team could soon be worth more than the sale price of two-and-a-half billion dollars. she is requesting that the move quickly before the franchise loses value but donald sterling is asking for more time arguing they will be worth more as time passes. the doctor that found him mentally unfit was influenced by his wife to do so according to mr. sterling. a rookie police officer rescued a woman who was laying on some railroad tracks in texas. someone flagged the officer down early sunday morning, to say they say the woman just sitting there. the officer flipped on the lights in his patrol car, which automatically turned on the dash camera. then he jumped out as the railroad crossing gates were

residential neighborhood. no details have been released but we will bring them to you as soon as they become available. >>a powerful earthquake rocked part of alaska. it came from 70 miles beneath the earth's surface. and it was centered about 15 miles from "little sitkin island." the quake registered 7-point-9 on the richter scale. and already, there have been more than a dozen aftershocks. a tsunami warning was issued, but later cancelled. so far, there are no reports of serious quake damage. a tornado caused significant damage in ohio. the national weather service confirmed that it was an "e-f- 1" or "e-f-2" that touched down in brunswick yesterday evening, about 30 miles southwest of cleveland. at least ten homes were damaged ... the roof of one of them was ripped off. police have been going door-to- door to check on residents. no injuries have been reported. the mormon church just kicked a woman out because she won't stop calling for women to be ordained priests. that decision was made by an all-male panel at the "church of jesus christ of latter day saints." the panel convicted kate kelly of advocating policies that are contrary to church teachings. they say she was too aggressive in trying to change other church members' minds.

kelly says being forced out is painful and tragic for her family. an ambitious pilot named after amelia earhart is about to try to do what her famous namesake never did -- fly around the world. amelia rose earhart plans to take off from oakland, california this thursday in attempt to become the youngest woman to navigate around the world in a single-engine aircraft. the 31-year-old pilot is not related to the older amelia earhart, but she says she will follow her flight plan that covers 24-thousand miles. earhart never finished that trip - she disappeared in june 1937. her younger counterpart sees this as a chance to make things right. >> we want to close our flight plan and she never got to do that. 77 years ago that flight plan was open. i was very inspired. i want to close that flight path plan for her. >> earharts says the trip will take her two and a half weeks and she plans to make 17 stops in 14 different countries.

"t-m-z online" reports he's been speaking with students about his personal experiences in the fashion business. this was his third visit in the last six weeks. back in march... kanye cut a plea deal to avoid jail time and agreed to 24-months of informal probation and 250-hours of community service.
