opened. lots of high standing water. that has subsided. this is 83 from maine to bluff a single lane they're working on the bridge maintenance. that will wrap until september. it will be there for awhile. heading west out of washington resurfacing work. just another week and a half before they will be wrapping that up. >>nancy loo is *live along the ike with more on last night's closure. >> he mentioned all lanes are open again and you can see traffic is flowing again through this section of the ike. it is ready to go for the morning rush. that is after a long night for crews clearing because it drains that led to flash flooding at the 25th avenue viaduct in broad view forcing state police to shut down all lanes of this busy expressway

from 17-25 just after 7:00. the shutdowns stretch on for six hours. a traffic nightmare for thousands of drivers. some reported sitting in it for about four hours. just before the shutdown, to drivers found out about the flooding the hard way. >> i was going along just like everybody else has improved under the bridge. a truck came next to me and splashed me and the other car. and then we got stuck. >> not clear yet what took so long to clear the i doubt but the work has wrapped up. all lanes are open again. >>people near indianapolis are cleaning up after a tornado touched down there. the national weather service says the twister was an *e-f-

one* tornado with winds up to 110 miles an hour. it touched down in hendricks county at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon. no injuries were reported, but the tornado did damage several homes, ripped off several roofs and damaged hundreds of cars. there were reports of a funnel cloud spotted here in the western suburbs as well. a viewer shot this cell phone video of the funnel cloud seen in hillside at about six last night. there were no reports of any touchdowns or any damage. yesterday's storms also caused delays and problems for flights at both o'hare and midway airports. more than 85 flights were canceled at o'hare as of nine last night. arriving and departing flights were delayed about an hour. at midway, flights were delayed for ninety minutes. three firefighters were injured while battling a fire at an auto repair shop. the fire happened last night in south suburban harvey. flames spread throughout the building and came out of the roof. several vehicles that were inside caught fire, some tires exploded. three firefighters were taken to the hospital for smoke

inhalation. one was already released, and the other two should be out shortly. >> the workers expressed that could not contain the fire and it just abandoned ship. at that point i fire department got here gun-control but the roof did collapse. >>no other buildings were damaged by the fire. officials say the cause appears to be accidental, but it's still under investigation. the crisis in iraq is deepening. and the obama administration is weighing what to do about it. islamist militants from the group "i-sis" are expanding their footprint by seizing more and more cities. and now they threating neighboring syria and jordan, as well. some senators say it's time for america to stop them *there, before they come *here. >> no member of the senate could have left that region believing the homeland was not in danger if they are successful. >> i continue to argue that we need to target those supply lines that speed them. we need to target their control we need

to work closely with our allies especially jordan to protect them from the growing risk this poses. >>as iraqi security forces defend a major domestic oil refinery from the militants, iraqi citizens by the thousands have fled their homes in favor of refugee camps. president obama has said he won't send combat troops to iraq. primary elections were held in eight states. two of the longest serving members of congress were up for re-election. six-term republican senator thad cochran narrowly defeated his tea party rival in a run- off in mississippi, by making a last minute appeal to democrats and african-american voters. 22-term democratic congressman charles rangel is claiming victory in a close race in new york, but his opponent has yet to concede. rangel has said this will be his last election. chicago will be the home of the new george lucas museum. the filmmaker will showcase his epic collection of "star wars" and other hollywood memorabilia, along with his collection of norman rockwell paintings, on a complex to be built just south of soldier field. mayor emanuel lobbied hard for the museum.

>> i just got off the phone to thank them for choosing chicago. >>the shedd aquarium, adler planetarium and field museum will be the movie memorabilia and narrative art museum's neighbors. san francisco and los angeles *lost their bids to host the new lucas museum. lucas owns a home here... and he's married to chicagoan mellody hobson, the president of ariel investments, and chairman of dreamworks animation. construction of the new museum is expected to be finished sometime in 2018. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. plans for building a new gun shop in northwest suburban niles is on hold. the shop faces opposition because it would be close to several schools, including one for students with special needs. village board members were going to vote on a permit last night, but they sent the measure back to the zoning board for further discussion. the zoning board will hold a hearing on july 7-th. the illinois state police will pay 40-million dollars to five men who were wrongly sent to prison for the rape and murder

of a 14-year-old girl. they've been known as the "dixmoor 5." they were imprisoned as teenagers for the murder of cateresa matthews in november of 1991. but d-n-a evidence cleared them, three years ago. a newspaper delivery woman is dead... after someone carjacked her vehicle on the south side, and she tried to stop it. chicago police are still looking for a suspect. wgn's patrick elwood has more about the delivery woman known well in the pill hill neighborhood. 50-year-old jeffrey carpenter of chicago was the man killed in monday night's crash of an ultra light glider in the fox river. he was a passenger in the glider when it went down near the dayton dam in lasalle county. the pilot was able to free himself and swim to the shore to get help. he told police he was having engine trouble just before the aircraft crashed. a local soldier was laid to rest in mokena, two weeks after he was killed in afghanistan. 19-year-old aaron toppen and

the rest of his unit were ambushed by the taliban. and when air support was called in, the coalition planes mistakenly killed toppen and four colleagues. his superiors in afghanistan say toppen carried out his duties with quiet professionalism. his family remembers him as a man who was born to serve. >> he represents something very good about humanity and about this country. we all have a hole in our hearts the size of a 19 year-old hero. we will never be able to fill that. but today we will start to heal. >>among the memories shared at toppen's funeral: the *tattoo he got before he was deployed to afghanistan. it read, "for those i love, i sacrifice". a camper had his camera out during a hail storm, when he got a little too close to the action. that loud boom you heard was lightning. it hit just a few feet away from a camp site at yellowstone national park. the man who shot this says he didn't realize what it was until after he watched the video. you can see everything was

and defrocked for presiding over his son's gay wedding ceremony has been reinstated by the church. frank schaefer performed the same-sex wedding in 2007, but a parishioner found out about it last year ... and reported schaefer to the church. under church policy, ordained methodist ministers *cannot perform same-sex marriages. he was suspended and defrocked after a trial in november. schaefer appealed and yesterday, the church overturned its decision. he will now receive his lost salary and benefits dating back to december. mistakes and confusion in the cockpit are being blamed for the crash of asiana airlines flight 214. three people were killed, and 187-others were injured, when a boeing 777 hit a seawall and swayed down a runway in san francisco last year. the n-t-s-b says the pilots made several mistakes during their approach. investigators say the crew didn't fully understand the plane's automated system that

was supposed to help them land safely. they also say the system's operating manual wasn't written clearly. a company in portland, oregon, is denying a woman's claim that one of its aerial drones peeped into her high-rise apartment window. lisa pleiss says she looked out her window in seattle, to see the miniature plane hovering nearby... complete with cameras. she even snapped a picture of it, and gave it to the police. the owner of skyris imaging, says the drone was actually taking pictures for a builder, to help it envision the views *from the windows of a building to be built next door to pleiss' apartment building. there is a reason why mosquitoes bite some people more than others. those who work out a lot or are pregnant get it because of a higher body temperature. mosquitos land on people with type o blood twice as often as people with type a. the skaters are drawn to people wearing black, dark blue or red. >> typo. i don't even know my blood type. >> i know because i and the

sports bar as it was licensed by the city of harvey. mayor eric kellogg said he voted to shut down "club assets" after he discovered what was happening inside the club. yesterday, the owners of "club assets," filed a lawsuit saying they can't operate, if the city keeps placing "cease and desist" orders on their property. a cat is recovering after it was tortured with firecrackers. the cat was severely injured when a woman found it near 57- th and elizabeth a few days ago. it had burns on its neck, leg, and torso. paws chicago is now looking after the cat, they call 'nicky.' they say they believe someone found a friendly house cat, tied firecrackers to it, and lit them. >> i believe the cat escaped and went and hid for a long time. maybe as long as a week because it was quite starved. >>caregivers at paws chicago say they believe nicky was once someone's pet. the cat is expected to be o-k enough to go into foster care

eight others were injured this morning, when a passenger train derailed in india. it happened in the northern city of chhapra, about a hundred miles from india's border with nepal. it's still not known why the express train from delhi left the tracks. but india's railway minister has already announced that the families of the victims will be compensated. passengers scheduled to take a flight from o'hare to orlando say their flight never took off ... after a day of nightmare delays spent on-board the plane.spirit airlines flight 927 was supposed to leave from o'hare at 10:30 yesterday morning, but one passenger tells

us it was delayed five hours. once they finally boarded the airplane and pulled away from the gate, they got stuck on the tarmack for hours without air conditioning. >> we get another message on the runway saying there was a computer problem we were going back to the terminal. we go back to the terminal will stop about 15 ft. in front of it and we sit there for about another hour and a half. 300 people, no air- conditioning. lots of kids. people were passing out. >>the chicago fire department says it transported four people to the hospital. passengers say the flight was finally cancelled just before eight last night. a spokesman for spirit airlines says the plane was having mechanical problems when it landed at o'hare ... and the crew noticed mechanical issues that wouldn't make it safe to take off. "spirit" says only one passenger requested medical assistance ... not four. here are a few stories that are trending online this morning ...

the cannibal of soccer struck again at the world cup. uruguay's luis suarez bit an italian player on the shoulder during their match yesterday. the player showed the bite marks to the referee, but no foul was called since the ref didn't see the bite. after the game, suarez said it was just a collision, but he now faces a possible ban of up to 24-matches. he's already been banned, for biting other players, twice. uruguay went on to win one- nothing. joan lunden has been diagnosed with breast cancer. the former "good morning america" host said the tumor wasn't discovered during her annual mammogram, but a later ultrasound. lunden says she has a particularly aggressive form of cancer... and is in "warrior mode" now -- learning everything she can about breast cancer as she undergoes chemotherapy. k-f-c confirms the story about a 3-year-old girl being kicked out of one of its restaurants, because her appearance was scaring other customers ... was a hoax. the chain conducted an internal

car accident yesterday... according to "t-m-z" online. it happened in beverly hills... apparently while the driver of bieber's s-u-v was trying to get away from a photographer. another vehicle ran into the s- u-v while pulling out of a parking garage. bieber was not hurt. reports say bieber immediately got into another car, which then sped away. the original handwritten lyrics for the bob dylan classic... "like a rolling stone" just sold for more than 2-million dollars. it was part of a sotheby's rock and roll auction in new york yesterday. the lyrics to another dylan song... "a hard rain's a-gonna fall"... sold for 485-thousand dollars. the auction also included memorabilia from the beatles, the rolling stones and elvis presley.
