with buckets of ice water and a garden hose are being reported. abandonment over night when he slept on a piece of dry wall. he finally was able to escape monday night when a construction worker remove the screws to the back door where he was held. he went to his brother's home nearby and they call police. a relative says there were just try to keep him off the t stree. >> it started out with gangs and drugs and then my uncle to protect him he did what he could and to prevent him from going out at night and to avoid him going out in the streets. >> the suspects are each charged with a felony count of kidnapping. police took photos of the teens injuries and the chain used to keep him

police, smith *beat tanner, and struck her across the face with his belt. for now, smith is charged only with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. an empty building in the albany park neighborhood exploded, as firefighters arrived to check out a report of smoke. the force of the blast blew out the windows of some buildings across the streeet at montrose and kimball. no one was hurt. no word on what caused the explosion. a former police officer in wisconsin has been charged in connection with the deaths of two women whose remains were found in suitcases near lake geneva. steven zelich will appear in court today on two counts of hiding a corpse. highway workers found the suitcases while cutting grass in geneva, wisconsin, earlier this month. homicide charges are also expected to be filed. the pastor of a suburban church is charged with molesting a boy for years while the boy attended first presbyterian church of river forest. police say reverend john hays started the sexual abuse back in 2003, when the victim was about eight years old. the abuse continued for six years.

police say all of the abuse took place in hays' home, which is in chicago's austin neighborhood ... a block from where the victim lived. investigators are also looking into whether hays may have molested a second victim. he is scheduled to appear in bond court later today. c-p-s is laying off 11-hundred employees. 550 of those are teachers. they are being encouraged to re-apply for other jobs within the district. c-p-s expects to fill about 17- hundred teaching vacancies before school starts in the fall. the gaps are mainly due to retirements, resignations and staff turn-overs. in the past, more than 60- percent of displaced teachers have found other jobs with c-p- s. school officials say the number of teachers laid off is the lowest in five years. >> to be clear, these were cuts made because the district budget numbers were so low the principals were not able to keep the staff that they would have liked to keep. >>teachers union president karen lewis blames mayor emanuel, saying his priorities are out of order ... pointing to his pursuit of president obama's library and building a

star wars museum in chicago. the daughter of a well known chicago politician-- william "dock" walls' -- has died. ashley walls died from bacterial meningitis while she was studying abroad in brazil. the 29-year-old was a doctoral student at university of illinois. her father "dock" walls has run for mayor several times. the university of illinois chancellor issued a statement saying her thoughts are with her family and friends. alderman ed burke is already looking to get back to work, after yesterday's surgery for prostate cancer. the problem was discovered during a routine physical a few weeks ago. burke, who hasn't missed a city council meeting in 45 years, postponed his surgery by one day, to attend *wednesday's* council session. a statement from burke's family said, "we are happy to relay that his surgery was a success... alderman burke is in good spirits and looks forward to resuming his regular schedule soon." the trump tower is drying out after a flood on the first floor. a pipe burst while workers were trying out the new sprinkler system yesterday morning. waves of water gushed throughout the first floor, and spilled out onto the sidewalk near the southwest entrance, by

comeback but not enough to end the day in positive territory. the dow jones was down 21 points and s & p 500 down just slightly. the nasdaq finished flat with a loss of just under a point. walmrart has announced they are slashing how much they charge for iphones with a two year contract a 16 gigabyte iphone 5-s will cost just 99 dollars, down from 149 and a 5-c will be just 29 dollars instead of 49. the price cuts are fueling speculation that apple will soon release a new iphone model but walmart says they just want to offer customers great prices. the deal is only for purchases made in the stores.

about is a shady oaks. >> a summer camp for people with disabilities kids and adults. our youngest camper is seven our oldest is 72. he has come all 72 years. with art and crafts and talent shows. we have swimming pools. as many activities at a normal summer camp we have. this is richard. the mascots started here more than 20 years ago. eventually taking a full-time position as the executive director in 1999 turned his part-time summer job into a full-time focus on improving the lives of these campers. >> anytime i wanted to leave a camper with tommy to stick around. i made it through the first summer and i'm still here. >> living with his family in indiana commuting to work one and a half hours each way dedicating his professional life to making sure shady oaks lives on. but it takes more than one

person to run this 10 week camp. he recruits counselors from all over the world to make sure his campers get a one-on-one attention they deserve. >> we have people who can't communicate well. we make it a team effort to make sure we make them smile and laugh as much during the day. it's just shows the camp is a special place that people all over the world want to come to. >> it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to run the camp every summer. scott spends most of the year of raising funds and finding partners to keep the camp running. >> this is the dining hall it was remodeled by a retired contractor about 80 years ago out of his own pocket. it took him a few years. >> and the reason i am here is because of scott. >> this is one of the volunteers you'll see quite often if you

his artwork on display at the hard rock cafe. he says painting started off as just something to pass the time. but now he's developed quite collection of artwork. ringo made an appearance at the exhibit last night. >> i was sitting around in hotels on tour when i started. we put some of it on show since i made so much. >>money raised by selling his works of art goes to the lotus foundation, which supports a variety of charity projects. ringo starr will be performing at the chicago theatre saturday. dean left his review of the new michael bay movie "transformers: age of extinction" ... much of which was shot right here in chicago. ever buddy stayed behind me. >> the robots are back but the humans are new in the new transformers, each of extinction. it left chicago in shambles in the previous installment. the star is new.

discovering a transformer who was pivotal in the battle fuelled by a corrupt government official. also an insane billionaire. the good guys and bad guys and good robots and that robots storyline is not what you go to see in this movie. but it's fun and it works. the real reason to see this film is the battle and the amazing cinematography that will follow the next two hours. it's way too long. but it is spectacular i sought in 3 d imax and it was often literally breathtaking. once again chicago is the setting for many scenes and battles. also beijing and hong kong. fun to watch with the director more than delivering a holiday weekend pop popcorn spectacular i give it a b plus. as always my current and past
