several of those shootings involved police. judy wang joins us *live at police headquarters with more . at least 10 people were killed and more than 50 were injured in shootings across the city over the holiday weekend. >> please report the city murder rate is at its lowest since 1963 that it may not appear that way to residents of the south side where a majority of this shootings happened over the weekend. at least 10 dead more than 50 wounded. one of the fatal shootings happened around midnight. a woman shot during a barbecue on the far south side. this happened in the 1300 block of west on 10. there was not an activity given of the woman they just said she was in her '40's. about 30 minutes earlier three people injured near east edf paramedics took a man in critical condition to the hospital he had been shot in the head. a woman in serious condition at chris medical

center. a third victim found at a home near 80th and taken to jackson heart hospital in good condition. five shootings this weekend involved police officers they killed a 16 year- old boy saturday near 87th. the union spokesman said the boy came out from under a car where he had been hiding refused to drop the weapon. police killed a 14 year-old boy friday. police say they try to stop the boy after seeing a gun in his waistband and fired when the boy fired a gun at officers. the mayor attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for a playground sunday afternoon he declined to address the violence this weekend. back to you. >> a man killed at 26 and thin during sunday morning. five dead

in the patrol car. responding to a call of shots fired but not clear if that was related to him getting shot. police say three people were arrested just to run the corner from the murder. >> acting upon a tip from a house of the street the 2600 block of jackson. three individuals taken into custody. they were taken in for interrogation at this time. >> the three being questioned were all arrested the same home. no charges filed. westfield had been the police force for 19 years. he had four daughters and was engaged to be married. the wedding was less than two months away. >> i want them to look me in the eye and tell me why they killed my fiancee. why did they kill this father and stepfather. he has four kids. i want them to explain why he did that. why? >> he joined the police department in 1995 after serving in the u.s. army during

operation desert storm. the first kerry officer shot and killed in the line of duty in 16 years. he was killed on his 47th birthday. another officer shot and killed while on duty. indianapolis police officer perry renn was killed while responding to a report of shots being fired. renn and another officer were approaching a group of people in an alley, when they were shot at. renn was killed. the alleged shooter was also shot and is in critical condition. renn was a 22-year veteran of the force. a 10-month-old child is hospitalized after falling from a second story window. it happened about 7:15 last night in the 700 block of east 93rd street. the grandmother says she believes the child was asleep in its bed near a window... when it woke up and crawled out. the child was taken to the hospital in stable condition. a c-t scan was given and the child will be admitted to the i- c-u. illinois senate president john cullerton's son is due in court today, after being accused of groping a woman at a nightclub in tennessee. memphis police arrested

carroll cullerton friday morning - after a woman accused him of unzipping her dress and fondling her. he's charged with sexual battery. cullerton is out of jail on bond. it's been 13 years since two sisters went missing from their home on chicago's south side. >> was still pray and hope they come back home. >>a vigil was held for diamond and tionda bradley yesterday. they disappeared on july 6th, 2001. their mother left for work early that morning, and when she returned ... the girls were gone. they left a note saying they were going to play at a park. the sisters were ten and 3- years-old at the time. chicago police have searched more than 5-thousand abandoned buildings and interviewed more than one-thousand people. former u-s senator alan dixon has died. dixon represented illinois for two terms in the u-s senate, from 19-81 until 19-93. carol moseley braun defeated him.

dixon was known as "al the pal" because of his ability to get along with other politicians, regardless of party affiliation. dixon's son says his father had been experiencing heart problems recently. dixon is survived by his wife - jody, and three children. he would have been 87 today. drivers had to take it slow on a road in massachusetts. tighter security measures for electronics of flights into the u.s.. those that cannot power of the device will have to leave it behind. >> screeners at overseas airports may start asking u.s. bound passengers to power on their electronics. this is a new tsa measure designed to prove that electronics are not explosive devices. if it can't power on it can't come on board. the traveler may undergo additional screening. it's an update to security measures aimed at combating potential new threats from terrorist in the middle east and europe. homeland

security secretary j johnson spoke with meet the press about the move. >> our job is to try to anticipate the next attack. not simply reacted to the last one. we continually evaluate the world situation and we know there remains a terrorist threat to the and states and aviation security in march is a part of that. >> the tsa will have to coordinate with foreign governments which provide security at airports in the country also court meeting with the airlines and private security companies as well. last week a u.s. homeland security officials said security changes will primarily focus on the airports in europe and the middle east. across the pond, the u.k. department for transport recently confirmed it is stepping up some of its aviation security measures. not currently known what other measures the tsa employee and the stepped up security would not be prompted by a specific

threat. back to you. >> voters should be asked if they are supporting birth control coverage. the governor signed the measure is straight put the non-binding referendum on the november ballot. illinois order requires it said insurance to cover for women. quinn says the question is important that the u.s. supreme court ruled that some private companies can refuse to pay based on religious belief. republicans call it a tactic on election year. drivers had to take it slow on the road in massachusetts because the whole road was blocked by a herd of sheep. they escaped overnight and said the middle district was a good place to relax. there were eventually rounded up and taken home. the owner says the republican scared by a coyote went broke through the fence. like stepping over the dog in the morning try to get to the bathroom.

winds are making it difficult for crews to contain a wildfire in northern california. the fire has nearly tripled in size since it started on friday, burning more than ten square miles of a remote mountain area near sacramento. temperatures were over one- hundred degrees yesterday. one firefighter was hurt when the bulldozer he was operating rolled over. the fire is about 30-percent contained, and is burning close to a rural neighborhood. a northern california man has lost both of his hands... after he lit illegal fireworks... and the device exploded prematurely. it happened on the fourth.. as his family members stood by. the man in his 40's is expected to live. the device was not identified. in an unrelated incident.. two other men were seriously injured near san jose - while lighting a mortar-like explosive. both men suffered severe damage to their hands. thick smoke filled the air on

sunday in caryville, tennessee... when a fireworks store became engulfed in flames. it happened about 30 miles north west of knoxville. witnesses say they saw fireworks shooting off as the store burned. firefighters deemed the store a complete loss.. there's no word yet on how the fire started. it could be tuesday before crews can remove some huge boeing aircraft parts from a montana river. six 7-37 fuselages and parts for two other planes... were on their way here to washington, when the train carrying them, derailed thursday. three fuselages ended up in the clark fork river. there are now questions over how much the accident will impact boeing's delivery schedule. boeing sent a team of experts to assess the damage. they're still investigating what caused the derailment. it took a message on twitter to get dozens of people to flock to the same beach in california. hundreds of people searched the sand of pacific beach, looking for pez dispensers.. those dispensers had cash inside. 25-dispensers were buried out there with a total of 15- hundred dollars as part of the

received last week. a 12-foot long burmese python slithered into their community on thursday night. they called 9-1-1, but it was going to be a half-hour before reptile specialists could arrive. residents couldn't wait, so several of the braver ones took matters into their own hands. >> i pulled up and she said it's over there and i looked and it was on the ladies porch. it was huge. it was a python. and the head was bigger than my hand. >> the owner brought it out in a pillowcase. eventually we had to use a barbecue cover to get it in there. >> how did they do that? a pillowcase and a barbecue cover?the snake was trapped in that grill when officials arrived. they say the python was *not a pet, that it actually came from the wild. it was turned over to the florida fish and wildlife conservation commission. no thank you. it could have made

290 allot of ramps are flooded out. some of the rain caused issues for drivers hoping that water will receive before rush hour. one of them has high standing water in bound right where it intersects with 290. looks like we still are dealing with an accident with a light pole and won 19 in marshfield. crews are on the scene there. watch for the detours through that intersection until they can pull that out completely. more traffic and travel times coming in 10 minutes. and much more coming up including an illinois senator's son arrested for groping a woman. and tornadoes are spotted it and another round of severe storms in the heartland. and mr. and mrs. sterling will face off in court today over the sale of the clippers. we will have a preview. and a man is alive and talking about going eye to eye with a great white shark. 10 pee

good morning. most of the shootings happened on the city's west and south sides. three people killed were killed in just the last 24 hours. one of them was a woman shot while attending a holiday barbeque. it happened around midnight near west when 10 place on the far south side. we do not know the circumstances that led up to the shooting. the woman was in her 40's and was hit on the left side of her body and in the arm. about 30 minutes earlier three people were shot near east 80th street and exchange. they were on a sidewalk. a group of people approached, shots were fired. a man was shot in the head he is in critical condition in hospital. a woman is a crest medical center in a corn in serious condition the third victim is in good condition at jackson heart hospital. no suspects are in custody in that incident. five of the shootings

involving chicago police. police shot and killed a 16 year-old boy 87 saturday. a police union spokesman says the boy had been hiding under a car. he came out from under the vehicle and refused to drop the weapon. on friday a 14 year-old boy was killed at cicero. police say the teen had a gun in his waistband. police fired but he put his gun at officers who pursued him. the mayor refused to address the violence when he. at a south side ribbon cutting ceremony for a playground. one of the shootings this weekend happened near his north side home. police superintendent does have an event on the south side this morning and we will wait to see if he will address this issue. back to you. >>authorities are questioning three people about the murder of a gary police officer. officer jeffrey westerfield was shot and killed, at 26-th and van buren, sunday morning. he was found dead in his patrol car.

he's the first gary officer to be shot and killed in the line of duty in 16 years. he was killed on his 47-th birthday. a possible tornado damaged a handful of homes in a rural area of central iowa. the severe storm blew apart one house, and tore the roof off another. other twisters were spotted around the area. the national weather service will determine which ones were true tornadoes, and how strong they were. no injuries have been reported. passengers at some airports overseas will be required turn on their electronics in order to board flights to the united states. the t-s-a says devices that won't power up, won't be allowed on planes. those passengers could also face additional screening. american intelligence officials have been concerned about new al-qaida efforts to produce a bomb that would go undetected through airport security. there is no evidence a bomb like that exists, or that there's a specific threat to the u-s. the t-s-a does not conduct screening abroad, but has the

retaliation for the kidnapping and murder of three israeli teenagers. khedair's 15 year old cousin, from florida, was part of a demonstration, when he was detained and beaten. he had two black eyes and a swollen lip when he was released. his parents say his attackers were from israeli security forces. >> the came from the side. i tried to run away but they got me. >> not charged with anything. we have amenable to speak with him his own house of rest. >>israeli authorities say khdeir was part of a group that was attacking police. khdeir says he was just standing there, watching, when he was grabbed and beaten. he is now out on bail and is under house arrest at a relative's home. the state department is calling for a speedy, credible investigation. testimony could be wrapping up today at the oscar pistorius murder trial. prosecutors say pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp, after an argument. but pistorius says he shot her by accident because he thought she was an intruder. yesterday, an australian t-v network aired a video of pistorius re-enacting what

happened that night. the video was made by the defense, in preparation for the trial, but it was never admitted into evidence. the maker of the video says the network violated a promise to not air it until after the trial. opening statements begin today in the first trial linked to the boston marathon bombing. azamat tazhayakov is charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy. he's accused of removing fireworks and other items from dzhokhar tsarnaev's dorm room after the bombings. prosecutors say tazhayakov went to the room after tsarnaev sent a text that said to take what's there. tsarnaev goes on trial in november. a man in california is home from the hospital, after being attacked by a great white shark. the attack was captured by cell phone video. 40-year-old steven robles says he's still weak and sore after the attack near the manhattan beach pier. and that he was in a "complete state of panic" when he came face to face with the 7-foot shark.

reportedly escaped their captors. they were taken hostage from their village last month after a four-day invasion of the village by the radical islamist group "boko haram." the militants killed 30 men and burned the entire village. the group is still believed to be holding more than 200 schoolgirls who were abducted april 14-th. that case drew international outrage and prompted a global campaign for their release. pope francis will meet today for the first time with victims who were sexually abused by clergy. her an internal investigation was done and determined it was all a hoax. of the doctors still wants to help the girl so is providing her with a prophetic eye. >> it's a lot of work to be done
