no word on injuries but that is the hot spot this morning. >>chicago's trend of gun violence continues with several shootings. at least more two people have been killed since last night. nancy loo is live at area south police headquarters with more.. nancy? >> good morning. the latest round of violence merely adding to the heavy workload for detectives here. already having their hands full investigating dozens of shootings from an especially deadly holiday weekend. among the new cases, two teenagers shot on a basketball court just after 10:00 p.m.. a 17 year-old pronounced dead at the scene. the 15 year-old is in good condition at the hospital. police say the teens were walking to the park along the 9200 block when a gunman jumped

out of a white van and took aim at them. friends say the teen killed was set to leave this weekend for college orientation at western illinois. two others were shot around the same time outside a home on the 10,000 block of south avenue m. the man and a 16 year-old boy both hospitalized in critical condition. police say both are self admitted gang members. deadly gang violence also in the north last night. police say a 23 year-old documented gang members shot and killed while riding a bike. the deadly night followed the afternoon shooting of an 18 year-old woman in the east chatham neighborhood. she was grazed in the head, expected to recover. friends said the woman plan to enter the military soon. more neighborhood gun violence has residence pleading with the city to do more. >> how many have to die before

somebody says we need to see you walk the streets over here? >> 7 shootings and two more deaths in the last 24 hours follows an extremely deadly holiday weekend that saw about 90 people shot with a least 16 deaths. despite the deployment of hundreds of extra police officers patrolling the streets. later this morning the rev. jesse jackson sr. plans to speak are out on the problem. he is calling the deprivation of resources and lack of reconstruction for underserved areas a state of emergency. back to you. there chicago's gun violence, if mayor emanuel wants it. quinn says all emanuel has to do, is ask. they would provide help.

>> we are always ready to help whenever district they request. we done that in many districts. i am prepared to help the mayor and the police chief if they request it wherever they needed. i think it's important to work together on this law enforcement issue. >> pickfordstate police occasionally help authorities downstate. quinn says he would not send the national guard to the city, because they're primarily used for military missions. indiana's governor is responding to the gun violence in his state, that killed three police officers recently. gary police officer jeffrey westerfifeld was found shot to death in his squad car early sunday morning. he had been responding to a domestic disturbance call. but no charges have been filed. westerfield was a 19-year faugh veteran on the gary police force and a desert storm veteran. >> he was a man of integrity. a public servant of the highest order. he was a beloved figure.

>>visitation for officer westerfield will be sunday at the genesis convention center. his funeral is on monday. governor mike pence ordered all flags be flown at half-staff this week, in honor of the officers killed in the line of duty in the past week. a man was mistakenly trapped inside the cook county jail for more than thirty hours last weekend. the man went to visit his son in the jail saturday evening. his regular weekly visit was moved to an area in the super- maximum security area. a spokesman for the sheriff's office says he went into a door that was propped open, and it closed behind him. it was a visitation room that is not regularly used on weekends so no one checked it. he pounded on the concrete walls, but no one heard him. eventually, he broke a sprinkler head. the fire department was called out to check a sprinkler alarm -- and found him. >> an incredible experience for him, we are so grateful he is ok and we will do what we can to make sure this, which is never happened before, never happens again. >>the man was stuck in the room from six o'clock saturday night,

until one a-m monday morning. he needed some stiches on his thumb, from breaking the sprinkler but otherwise he was o-k. a little boy is in critical condition after falling from a second-story window on the city's northwest side. it happened at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon at a home in the 37-hundred block of north kostner avenue. the two-year old boy fell out of the window. he was taken to advocate lutheran general hospital in park ridge with undisclosed injuries. a judge says he needs more information about former mayor daley's health, before deciding whether he can be exempt from testifying about a controversial restaurant deal. the city is suing the park grill in millennium park, trying to terminate a long-term agreement the restaurant was granted while daley was in office. the city says taxpayers are being cheated out of millions. daley's attorneys say it would be a medical hardship if he were forced to take the stand. the judge says he needs more information about daley's condition, and gave his lawyers until monday to provide it. a woman serving a life sentence for her role in the murder of a man who was buried alive, is asking for clemency.

nancy rish has been in prison for 27 years. she was convicted of helping her former boyfriend kidnap a wealthy man for ransom in 1987, the man died when a green box failed. hearing the case for clemency yesterday the former boyfriend provided a written statement saying he acted alone. the board will make a recommendation to the mayor but he has no obligation to act. >>president obama will meet with texas governor rick perry today, about the crisis at the border. it comes a day after the president asked congress for nearly 4-billion dollars to deal with the surge of unaccompanied minors who are crossing into the u-s, from central america. andrew spencer has more. >> calling the influx of illegal border crossings a crisis. >> it is important to see these miners coming to the u.s. since october the been coming to provide a message of deterrence to stop them from coming in the first place. we are not a point to stop this until we send them back. >> officials estimate 60-80,000

unaccompanied children will cross the border this year training resources. today the president meets with texas gov. rick perry has the look at ways to address the problem. the white house is asking congress for $3.7 billion to respond to the flood of immigrants. >> making it clear that additional resources will help us get in front of this in a very clear way. >> the emergency funds would among other things help clear a backlog in imagery operation. >> have a bipartisan conversation making sure we have the resources we need to deal with this effectively. >> republicans are not entirely convinced. >> i am concerned at the short term band-aid to what could be a long-term priccrisis. >>the public is offering plenty of ideas and input on ways to improve north lake shore drive.. a public input meeting was held at the drake hotel yesterday as the state looks for suggestions to improve the popular lakefront roadway. one person suggested building a

after violent storms moved through upstate new york. the worst of the storms hit madison county, near syracuse at about seven last night. four homes collapsed during the severe weather. one of the homes was ripped from its foundation and tossed on top of another. emergency crews are searching for more victims. the national weather service is investigating if the damage was caused by a possible tornado. and in maryland, a child was killed and eight others injured after severe weather knocked down a tree at a busy summer camp. the camp's director says more than a hundred campers were outside when the freak storm blew through the area. the children were trying to take shelter in a building when several trees were blown down on top of them. the f-b-i is investigating how vials of the smallpox virus ended up unnoticed in a storage facility. scientists found the vials while getting ready to move an f-d-a lab to another location. the vials were in a storeroom and appear to be about 60-years old. c-d-c officials say there's no evidence that anyone was

exposed to the virus. they say the vials will be destroyed after further testing. passengers who experience flight delays are usually left with a bad taste in their mouth from the experience. but, those on a frontier airlines flight were only tasting pizza. the flight from washington d-c to denver could not land because of storms. so, it was diverted to wyoming to re-fuel. it was during that two-hour stop that the captain had more than 50 pizzas delivered to the plane. he said passengers applauded when he announced that everyone was getting dinner. >> are was getting hungry. we are a big family and we take care of people. i think it was time to take care of the passengers. i called up and ordered pizza. i know that whatever flies with me will not go hungry. >>the captain paid for the pizzas out of his own pocket. the flight finally arrived in denver about five hours late. that could have been a long flight without that pizza.

some advice to the owners of the chicago cubs and the rooftop buildings around wrigley field. he says the two sides should keeping negotiating to avoid a court battle over renovations of wrigley field. emanuel is not saying if he thinks the cubs should return to their original renovation plan that was already approved by city hall. the cubs have not been able to come to terms with the rooftop owners to avoid a lawsuit, so they revised their plans to add five more additional signs in the outfield that would block the rooftops. the city's landmarks commission will vote on the revised renovations tomorrow. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. the cook county sheriff's office is investigating how a man was mistakenly trapped inside the cook county jail for more than thirty hours last weekend. the man went for his weekly visit with his son in the jail saturday evening. but he ended up in a room that is never used on the weekends. the door locked behind him and no one knew he was there until he broke a fire sprinkler early monday morning. indiana governor ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff for the three police officers killed in the past week. a suspect remains in custody, but no charges have been filed for the murder of gary police officer jeffrey westerfield. a visitation for westerfield will be sunday at the genesis convention center.

his funeral is on monday. a judge wants more information about former mayor daley's health, before deciding whether daley has to testify about a controversial restaurant deal. the city is suing the park grill in millennium park, trying to terminate a long-term agreement the restaurant was granted while daley was in office. daley's attorneys say it would be a medical hardship if he were forced to take the stand. the former teacher and soccer coach at maine west high school who was fired following a hazing scandal last year, is now suing to get his job back. emilio rodriguez claims maine township high school district 207 failed to prove the claims against him and he should not have lost his job. members of the boys soccer team were accused of sexually abusing younger teammates during a hazing ritual. rodriguez was never charged with a crime. another coach was found not guilty of all charges. airstrikes between gaza and israel could escalate withthe israeli cabinet is authorizing its military to call up 40- thousand troops. only one-thousand have been called up so far.

right now the latest fighting fired from both sides of the fed border. terrorist sites, but the palestinians say dozens of civilians, including children, have been killed. israeli military says hamas is capable of hitting major cities with its rockets. extreme winds and torrential rains from a typhoon battered japan's okinawan islands, killing at least two people. typhoon neoguri had winds up to one-hundred miles per hour when it hit. then, it weakened as it headed north for the main islands. this is one of the biggest and strongest typhoons to hit japan during the summer. forecasters say the major concern now is flooding. >> the president will meet with texas gov. rick perry today about the crisis at the border. asking congress for nearly $4 billion to deal with the surge of miners coming from central america. he says the emergency fund will help clear a backlog of immigration. it will also conduct more aerial surveillance. officials estimate between 60-80,000 unaccompanied children will cross the borders this year.
