tribe blocked between renault and grand due to the navy pier flyover project. more numbers and your commute times in just a few minutes. >>a second black box was recovered at the site of the malaysian plane crash, near ukraine's border with russia. this, as the malaysian government met with the media. the country's transport minister says if reports that the plane was shot down are confirmed, it would be "an outrage against human decency." he also offered his condolences to the families of the 298 people who were on board. president obama is pushing for independent investigators to be allowed at the crash site. andrew spencer has more on that, the world want to happen. >> today, nearly 300 people dead after a plane crashes in eastern ukraine and a woman who said she was supposed to be on the flight is still alive. >> coming to the airport in the taxi just crying feeling like i'd been given a second chance. >> the faa warned u.s. airlines to avoid the airspace over

eastern ukraine. u.s. officials believe a missile destroyed the flight. >> if that's the case, it's an unspeakable crime. >> needs a full and transparent international investigation. >> we think the perpetrators must swiftly brought to justice. >> the russian president led the moment of silence on russian television the protesters outside the united nations blamed him for the destruction. he blames the ukrainians for escalating the conflict. some hope the loss of life may be an opportunity for a cease-fire between russian separatists and eastern ukraine and the government. if not, it could create an even deeper divide between east and west. >> a civilian plane was shot down with hundreds of dutch and german and french citizens. that may have the effect of galvanizing the european

resolve. >> others reflect on the tragedy an agreement memorial house that the dutch embassy. 298 are dead amid the wreckage of a civilian passenger jet. >>ukraine's security chief says russia was involved in shooting down the plane. his agency released recordings of three phone calls it intercepted. >>this call was reportedly made 20 minutes after the crash by a rebel commander, to a colonel with russia's military intelligence division. the rebel fighter says they just shot down the plane, and discusses the number of people who are dead. a second conversation, said to be between pro-russian militants at the crash site, confirms it was a malaysia airlines plane that went down. and, in the third intercepted call, a russian commander suggests the plane must have been carrying spies. the recordings have not been independently verified. a political analyst with the

university of chicago tells us, regardless of who is to blame ... this is bound to impact relations between the u-s and russia. >> a very heavily surveiled area. with lots of satellite intelligence we will know who did it we will put pressure on the russians and the russians will say they will cut off gas to the europeans, this is not going to leave it to a war between the u.s. and the russians, but it could lead to substantially worse relations. >>news of the ukraine disaster left air travelers at o'hare airport a little nervous... especially those leaving on *international flights. we spoke to several whose flight plans will take them through amsterdam, where the doomed flight originated. >> we are headed to amsterdam. it just increases your anxiety. it will prevent us from going, but it will make us more nervous of the happy to get there. >> the faa says u.s.-based

airlines are not quick to be operating near the border of ukraine. >>chicagoans of ukranian descent say they feared the day would come.... when tensions and fighting between russia and ukraine... would result in something tragic. w-g-n's judy wang is in chicago's ukranian village where residents gathered for a prayer service. >> me are outside st. nicholas catholic church. many came to pray after learning of the jet crash. they say they're devastated by the turn of events and this shows how critical is the ukraine continues to receive international support. chicago is home to about 46,000 ukrainian americans, a large number of the city's north side. the catholic church held this service dedicated to the 298 people killed aboard the malaysian airline flight. ukrainian americans have washed up for months the turmoil in ukraine beginning with anti- government protests in kiev over the former president's decision to move away from the european

union. russian annexing of crimea in eastern ukraine, the separatist uprising and now what appears to be the downing of the malaysian jet near the country's border. one woman who attended the service said recent events make her thankful for the life she and her family have here. >> i want them to know about their heritage. but we are lucky that we live here and they have freedoms that we have and they don't take them for granted. >> the president and u.s. allies are pursuing a new round of sanctions against russia but some are questioning whether the sanctions will be enough to stop. >>senator kirk was on twitter, shortly after the ukraine disaster... ever *before the plane was taken down by a missile. kirk wants even more punishing sanctions against russia. he writes, "a russian-made

another major story we're following,israel says one of its soldiers was killed during the early stages of its ground invasion in gaza. the troops are blowing up a network of tunnels that hamas militants have been using, to sneak into israel and carry out terrorist attacks. the israelis are also looking to destroy the infrastructure that allows hamas to carry out its aggression. more than 200 palestinians have died since israel began its airstrikes in gaza last week. the head of the united nations warns, there can be no winners in the israeli-palestinian conflict. >> that can be no military solution. this apprise as much to israel and palestine as a test to syria. >>hamas said israel will pay a great price for going into gaza. israel has called up more than 50-thousand reserve soldiers. but at least one source close to the israeli military, says the current ground campaign may last only a few days, because its objectives are limited.

police released new surveillance photos that more clearly show the faces of two men who robbed several people at gun point on an orange line train. the men held up at least four passengers on a single car, between the halsted and roosevelt stops wednesday afternoon. a review of the c-t-a's entire security camera system shows the men had actually been riding the southwest side line for several hours leading up to the robbery.anyone who recognizes them is asked to call chicago police. a police officer is far from his job after woman kills herself with his gun. kennedy left the gun unattended while unattended back in 2009. the woman was in the bathroom-judge the officers in the bathroom and women use it to commit suicide. the superintendent recommended a two month suspended for the officer. police would overrule him. >>a former wisconsin police

officer pled not guilty to stuffing the bodies of two murder victims in suitcases, and dumping them in a roadside ditch. steven zelich appeared in court via video feed. he admits, he killed the two women during sexual encounters. he insists their deaths were accidental. zelich is jailed on a million dollars bond. he faces 20 years in prison if he's convicted of hiding the corpses. a prisoner in elgin who made a short-lived break for freedom, says he hears voices, and needs help. a kane county judge judge set bond for 33-year old jesse vega at a million dollars. vega bolted from a police car wednesday, as he was being taken from the elgin mental health center to a court appearance. he was recaptured eight hours later. back in april, vega was declared mentally unfit to stand trial for assaulting a woman in the parking lot at six flags great america. we now know what you'll receive when you make a good impression with mayor rahm emanuel.. that is... a delicious piece of cheesecake... the chicago tribune reports if you did a good job... if you're

next thursday when camp begins. >>stocks plunge yesterday... as isreal began launching a ground offensive in gaza shortly after the malaysia airlines crashed in ukraine.. the down down 161 the nasdaq falling 62 and the s-and-p down 23 in the race for governor: republican candidate bruce rauner rolled out his plan to revamp the illinois tax code. rauner's 22-page budget proposal phases out the state's income tax increase, by rolling back the personal rate from five to three percent ... over four years. he'd expand the sales tax to cover some luxury services, like golf club memberships and charter flights ... and freeze property taxes. rauner says his strategy will improve the business economy. >> we can't get caught up in any one year six month period of budgets. we need to take a long- term structural change for growth. that's the critical thing. >>rauner also supports raising the minimum wage to ten dollars an hour, if it's coupled with

pro-business reforms. he was in schaumburg yesterday, where he was endorsed by the illinois manufacturers association. governor quinn rejected rauner's tax plan, as he launched a job training program on the south side. the governor insists that broadening the sales tax would hurt individuals and small businesses. >> and not put that tax. the tax on business and everyday people as they go about their daily lives, i think it's a terrible idea. >> the governor was at the dawson technical institute yesterday to unveil "employ illinois" ... a program to train minorities for construction jobs. he added that the state's unemployment rate is the lowest its been since 2008. your dream job... may be one that's being considered endangered.. that -- according to a new list by careercast-dot-com... their list says travel agents.. newspaper reporters.. and meter readers are among the most endangered jobs.. but... topping the list is farmers.. which are expected to decline 19-percent... and mail carriers.. expected to decline lumberjacks.. flight attendants... and drill press operators are also considered to

the service thursday evening dedicated to the 290 people who were aboard the malaysian airlines flight. the ukrainian americans have watched the turmoil in the ukraine beginning with the anti-government protest in kiev after the former president decided to move away from the european union. the watched as moscow annexed crimea, the rise oppression separatists and what appears to be the downing of the malaysian plane. a woman who attended the service says she wants her children to appreciate the freedoms they have here. >> i want them to do about their heritage but we are lucky that we live here and have the freedoms that we have and they don't take those for granted. >> will need support now. especially the ukraine in general as a country. ukrainians all of the world still need that support. and unfortunately this emphasizes and underlines the

that allows hamas to carry out its aggression. seven people were injured in a series of shootings on the south side yesterday afternoon. this is 84-th and morgan, where two teenagers were grazed. one boy was hit in the back... the other suffered a minor hand injury. at 80-th and morgan, a man was shot in the shoulder. but his injuries weren't life- threatening. illinois lawmakers will wait three months to interview key officials linked to governor quinn's controversial anti- violence program. they want to give *federal investigators time to finish *their investigation. quinn's "illnois neighborhood recovery initiative" has been criticized as little more than an effort to sign up quinn voters before the 2010 election. fedex is headed to court facing drug-trafficking charges... this comes after accusations of conspiring to deliver prescription drugs for illegal internet pharmacies. they also set up special credit policies for internet

pharmacies so it wouldn't lose money if police shut down the sites.. fedex ignored nearly a decade of warnings from the drug enforcement administration... the food and drug administration.... and members of congress. a hearing is schedule for july 29th.. no one has been charged... a stay dog found on the streets of chicago got a makeover. the trio animal shelter found this dog who was so matted and covered in dirt that they couldn't even figure out if the dog was male or female. so they called in a groomer to help clean the pup up. it took more than an hour and a half to shave *her and they took off more than 2 lbs of hair. but once they were finished, the dog which they named ellen, seemed quite content with her new do. and she even got adopted. >> that doesn't look like the same dog. >> right now were in the '60s. another nice day high temperature in the upper '70's. winds are com. they're generally not moving much. currently it's

trending online this morning ... we've been reporting on the surface-to-air missile that brought down a malaysian jerliner over ukraine. and this picture is trending this morning. a dutch teenager named tom warners snapped this photo of the plane taking off from amsterdam on the ill-fated flight. warners tweeted, "my thoughts are with pax and crew." one of the passengers on the doomed flight took a moment before boarding, to snap a photo of the plane. "cor pan" posted the photo on his facebook page, along with the message, "if it disappears, this is what it looks like." it was a reference to the malaysian jet that vanished months ago on a flight out of kuala lumpur. the photo prompted several comments from friends wishing pan a happy vacation in malaysia. actor jason biggs drew a firestorm of criticism after he tweeted "anyone wanna buy my malaysian airlines frequent flier miles?" his followers immediately reacted, telling him that the joke was simply not funny. biggs responded with a series of defensive tweets ... telling people not to follow him if they don't like his humor. he later apologized to people who were offended saying that was not his intent ... and
