of a 3-year-old boy. >>tonya francisco is live at the criminal courts building with a preview. >> good morning. police were able to make an arrest quickly in this case. within 24 hours of friday night's shooting. in 19 year-old man is charged as well as a 22 year-old. both face attempted murder and aggravated battery with firearms charges. police say they were able to recover the weapon used to shoot a three year-old in the hip and at them in big from bank. the boy and his mother and another man with them were standing outside in front of their apartment on sub sacramento when two men and two women walked past. exchanged words and the group to the and the block, one of the men fired a shot at hitting the boy. the police superintendent called the shooting degree this act and says it was gang-related.

revenge for a fight, several hours earlier. shamiya's body was pulled by a horse-drawn carriage, to her burial site in forest park. police in hammond, indiana are looking for two men who shot a woman and her two young daughters during an attempted robbery. it happened at late yesterday morning. hammond police say the mother from west suburban addison was sitting in her car with her 12 and 15 year-old daughters when two men approached the car and demanded money. one of the men fired several shots at their car as the woman tried to drive away. >> shot after shot. >> it was very sad. kids can play you always wonder. are they in harm's way when they got side? >>the mother was shot in her arm. her daughters were hit in their lower body area were airlifted to a hospital in chicago in critical condition. police say the woman may have been in hammond to buy a cell phone from someone she met on social media. they have not released a description of the suspects. five people, including four teenagers, are hospitalized this

morning after a car crash in the loop. it happened on the 200-block of south lower wacker drive, last night. police say an s-u-v made an illegal turn just before a car smashed into it. the s-u-v rolled over. four teenagers and a man, who were inside the s-u-v, are in serious to critical condition. all are expected to survive. the driver of the other car was fine. police cited one of the teenagers for driving without insurance and making an illegal turn. two teenagers were killed, and two more are seriously injured, after a crash that involved a stolen car. the crash happened in south suburban harvey early sunday morning. police say a car, that was stolen in dolton, was speeding when it slammed into a pole. a 16 year old boy and an 18-year old woman, who were in the back seat, were killed. the male and female, who were in front, are in the hospital in serious condition. two men are charged in connection with an armed robbery on a c-t-a orange line train earlier this month. michael taylor appeared in bond court sunday, charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm.

another suspect was arrested in gary friday and charged with the robberies but he remains in jail in indiana on an outstanding warrant. police have not released his name. they are accused of holding up an orange line train car heading downtown from midway airport july 16th. they robbed at least four people and pistol whipped a woman before getting away. hundreds of people participated in a motorcycle ride yesterday... honoring chicago police officers.. the 10-th annual ride to remember took riders from the 11th district police station to the police memorial near soldier field. the event raised more than 200- thousand dollars.. which will benefit families of officers killed in the line of duty and those suffering severe injuries. nearly 100 horse statues will fill the downtown area this fall.. they'll honor the lives of chicago police officers killed in the line of duty.. the chicago police memorial foundation is modeling the effort after "the cows on parade" public art instillation. each horse will be decorated by a local artist... and named for a fallen officer. after the display, they'll be auctioned off to benefit the memorial fund. the denver area was captivated over the weekend by the

of thunder and lightning came through yesterday afternoon. 13 people were either in, or near, the water when lightning hit it. one man died in the hospital, but officials don't know if it was from the lightning or if he drowned. several others also needed medical treatment. >> it sounded like a sonic boom. it literally shook the buildings. >> a big flash of light and felt like someone punched me in the back of the head. it went down the whole side of my body. my legs locked up and i fell over. i looked up and everybody was falling over. >>experts say this kind of storm is extremely rare for southern california. the west coast has the lowest number of lightning strikes in the nation. a freak accident killed a man and critically injured his daughter, on a beach in venice, florida. as father and daughter were walking on the sand, a small plane crashed and hit them both yesterday. moments earlier, the pilot issued a distress call, saying he lost power and couldn't make

it back to the airport. the pilot and his passenger survived the crash without injuries. officials say 46 people were treated for alcohol related issues during a keith urban concert saturday night. it happened at an outdoor arena in mansfield, massachusetts... about 25-miles south of boston. 22 fans were sent to the hospital and more than 50 into protective custody.. this incident comes a month after dozens of people at a house music concert in boston... were taken to hospitals for drug and alcohol- related illnesses. a man dressed as spider-man was arrested after he slugged a new york city police officer who told him to stop harassing tourists in times square. the entire fight was caught on video by a tourist saturday. 25-year-old junior bishop is charged with assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. police say bishop refused to accept a one dollar tip from a woman after he posed with her for a picture. an officer overheard him demand a five, ten or twenty dollar bill. bishop then cursed at the cop and punched him in the face and that's when he was arrested. those types look real good in

is responsible. shangai's communist party has launched a separate investigation. a new push for a ballot referendum to raise the minimum wage took place yesterday. governor quinn joined senator durbin at federal plaza to announce the initiative. the group, "raise illinois," hopes to get half-a-million signatures to put the question on the november ballot. the non-binding measure on the november fourth ballot... asks if the minimum wage should be raised from eight-dollars and 25-cents... to ten-dollars an hour. a new bridge project to better connect the bronzeville neighborhood with the lakefront was launched yesterday. the new pedestrian bridge will go up at 35-th street. a modern-looking... s-shaped suspension bridge will replace the current structure. mayor emanuel says it will open up the lakefront to more children and families. the project is expected to cost about 23-million dollars.. mostly paid for by the federal government. some boaters tempted fate in the name of fun at the 28th world championship cardboard boat

races crowds gathered in heber springs, arkansas yesterday to watch the madness.. the theme for this year's races was "wild and wacky and downright crazy." and the participants delivered, taking to the water in carefully constructed boats. there was everything from sharks to floating cabins and monster trucks. awards were given out for the most creative team and boat, the boat that floated best, and of course, the best and most dramatic sinking. there's more to come in our next half-hour. >> some of those look like they barely made it to the water before the went under. >> we had some nice beach weather over the weekend. it was warm. that was a very professional segue i just did. it was a lot cooler and drying up there. low 60s today. these of the current temperatures. skies are many clear to partly cloudy. of the sun early the clouds will build up with a northwest flow bringing cooler

two men are due in court today, to answer charges of trying to kill a 3-year-old boy. tonya francisco is live at the criminal courts building with a preview. >> good morning. the police superintendent for the charges were announced, this was nothing more than a confrontation between two gang members. but a three year-old boy suffered the injuries as a result. no charges have been filed yet against the 18 year-old and the 22 year-old who were involved. both face charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with firearm. the three year-old victim was the only injured in the shooting. police say jason and his mother and another man were outside on south sacramento when they were in a fight with two men and two women walking past. when the group was down the block someone fired heating the boy in the abdomen. mccarthy says incidents like this could be avoided if a gang members

down in connecticut. national weather service says it was the weakest rating for a twister. no one was injured. but in knoxville tenn. at least 10 homes were destroyed. residents say the tornado caused damage but so far no injuries have been reported. >> more than five hundred firefighters and park service employees are battling a large fire burning near yosemite national park in northern california. the blaze began saturday and has burned nearly 26-hundred acres. nearby homes and three campgrounds have been evacuated. another wildfire near sacramento has destroyed 13 homes and 38

other buildings since friday. firefighters there say the fire is 50 percent contained. an amusement park ride in ohio is shut down after an accident happened, with people onboard. that happened on the skyhawk ride, at cedar point. the ride has two giant arms that swing people at speeds reaching 60-miles per hour. but on saturday night, a cable on one of the carriages snapped. a rider says power was shut down, but the ride kept swinging as the cable whipped around. one person was taken to the hospital. cedar point says the ride will remain closed so it can investigate what happened. a three-year-old boy, wearing only a diaper, climbed into his parents' jeep and knocked it out of "park" -- with predicable results. the vehicle started rolling through the yard, out into the street, and across an intersection... before it slammed into a neighbor's house in myrtle beach, oregon. the little boy then jumped out, and ran home to watch cartoons. his mother has been charged with failure to properly supervise her son. charge her? she lost her car. a new study says people who are
