>>israel says ten of its soldiers were killed yesterday, while destroying tunnels that hamas uses to smuggle weapons and launch attacks on israeli soil. israel says the gaza campaign will end when all the tunnels are blown up. here in chicago, the israeli- palestinian conflict was fought on a more *peaceful level... with dueling rallies in the loop. the jewish federation hosted a pro-israel demonstration outside the thompson center, while a group of palestinians chanted from across the street. police say the demonstrators from both sides were well- behaved. the state department is accusing russia of violating a weapons treaty. a treaty from 1987 says the russian federation is not to possess, produce, or test ground launched medium ranged missiles. the alleged violations date back six years, but russia says it's investigated the matter and considers it closed. president obama has written to russian president putin about this. all this comes after the state department accused russia of firing missiles into ukraine and providing the weapon that brought down malaysia airlines flight 17.

ukraine says its troops have fought off more rebels as they move toward the flight-17 crash site. dutch and australian investigators had said they were turned back from the scene. a ukrainian official says a black box from the plane proves it was shot down by a missile. russia now faces more sanctions for its role. the u-s and several european countries are working on stronger measures against russia's state banks, energy, and military technology. russia says new sanctions won't achieve their goal. police are still looking for two men who were caught on tape robbing a clinic. they got away with drugs and cash. tonya francisco is live at the 15-th district police station with more.. tonya? >> good morning. some of those drugs were by agra and xanax. apparently worth lots of money on the street. the pharmacist on duty at the time asked us not to name the clinic and to decide. but he did share with us some

video of the suspect. surveillance cameras from inside the clinic were able to record a clear video of their faces. the pharmacist tells us that it was around friday at 3:00 p.m. when the two men walked into the clinic claiming to want something and the next thing he dknew he was being insulted and the other man pulled a gun on him. >> he told me to put my hand on my head and get on my knees and he told me he needed the drugs. >he told me to get the drugs and put them in a bag. >> after he did that the pharmacist said the two men took him into a back room and talk take him and took off. before they took off they took his laptop and some cash. they made off with about $3,500 in

merchandise. the video you have seen has clear video of this to suspect cases. if you recognize the man you're asked to give police a call. >>a michigan jury has acquitted a man charged with killing an eastern michigan university football player from chicago. ed thomas and kristopher pratt were accused of fatally shooting former simeon high school standout demarius reed last october. yesterday a jury found thomas not guilty in the murder. reed was found dead by his roommate in a hallway of his apartment building near the e- m-u campus, on the morning of october 18th. police say he was killed during a robbery. pratt pleaded guilty in the case and testified against thomas. a man from palatine got into the middle of a fight outside a bar, and lost. yesterday, he died of his injuries. 26-year-old ryan flannigan tried to intervene in a fistfight involving several people who had gone to the bar after a funeral on july 18-th. palatine police say, 35-year- old michael platt threw a punch that knocked flannigan down and fractured his skull. platt is charged with aggravated battery... no word yet whether he'll face additional charges.

a police officer from southwest suburban hometown is out of a job after he shot a dog. "apollo"-- a one year old german shepard mix-- got out of the house on friday afternoon, but caught up with him. the dog's owners says she called for the dog to come in, but the officer already had his gun out. she says the officer fired when the dog bared his teeth at him. the family's 6 year old daughter witnessed the entire event. hometown police department says they're conducting a full investigation. a chicago police officer is out of the hospital after he was shot while stopping a burglary. the officer was going to his home in bucktown when he saw a man breaking into a home being built early yesterday morning. the officer drew his gun after seeing the man had a screwdriver. police say both men were shot with the officer's gun during a struggle. the suspect died at the scene. his name has not been released. the officer was shot in the arm. police in gary are investigating the murder of a man found shot to death inside his auto repair shop. antonio tolbert was found dead inside his shop in the 11-

hundred block of chase street at about 11 a-m yesterday. police have no one in custody. tolbert's body was found at about the same time the mayor of gary announced a new police chief for the city. larry mckinley is a 15-year veteran of the department. he takes over after the sudden resignation of former chief wade ingram. >> it just happened around the same time we were reviewing for approach to law enforcement, the chief decided to resign to pursue another avenue that we certainly support him. >> a didn't it anticipate this for its invasion. i think a lot of people were surprised. >>ingram joined the department as chief in 2011. some residents are questioning the timing of his resignation, in the wake of an uptick in murders and the killing of a gary police officer. ac chicago alderman has been arrested, a second time, for drunk driving. last friday morning, alderman rey colon, of logan square, was eisenhower expressway near homan avenue.

he tested over the legal limit for alcohol. police say he was cooperative. his previous d-u-i arrest was in 19-95. the states top watchdog is taking metra to task after an investigation into a serious safety issue. executive inspector general ricardo meza reports metra's 'change of assignment' policy led to falsifying the federal government's hours of service logs. the logs are for the safety of travelers and employees. metra officials are firing back though.. saying the report contains 'flawed assumptions' and comes almost a full year after leadership changes and agency reforms. and nfl training camp turn that to be a perfect place for a woman to celebrate her birthday. she's a big washington redskins and chan. for her 90th birthday she watched the training camp in virginia. she said it was her dream to spend per day with the team. the team owner and several players came over to sign her jersey. we are wishing her a very happy birthday. >> she's a loyal fan. 90.

when they went to talk with octavia burton about a shooting last week that injured two of her children, ages 10 and 11. police burton's six children and her boyfriend's child, ranging in age from 2 to 11, were living in a house that had no working toilets. trash was piled up in every room, bugs and feces were throughout the house. animal control removed five malnourished dogs. the children were taken from the house and placed in foster care. the homes has been boarded up and condemned. the first autopsy results from a lethal injection in arizona, suggest it was carried out correctly... even though some witnesses claim it was botched. joseph wood took two hours to die after he was injected with lethal chemicals. one witness says wood *gasped for more than an hour. but the pima county medical examiner says, the catheters carrying the lethal injection were inserted properly. and barring an unusual toxicology report, he plans to declare simply that wood died as the result of the lethal injection. in denver -- severe summer storms produced damaging tornadoes. two tornados drop from the sky barreling through two different

metro areas. one from sky fox near north east of denver and another near brighton. the storms didn't have much strength...making their sound more alarming than their swirl. one of the tornadoes passed near denver international airport sending passengers for shelter. after about an hour operations returned to normal while those around town affected scrambled to repair damage from the storm. a tornado -- ripped through revere, massachusetts -- causing extensive damage. the national weather service says monday's tornado was an ef- two tornado -- with winds between 100 and 120 miles per hour. the storm uprooted trees and severely damaged numerous homes and businesses. the tornado was on the ground for about two miles. no major injuries have been reported. the third time was the charm for a rocket launch at cape canaveral. a delta four rocket blasted off into space yesterday. it's carrying three satellites for the air force. two previous launch attempts had to be canceled last week because of bad weather. this launch was done through a partnership between lockheed martin and boeing. this is their 33-mission for

listings and information, like schools and crime reports. both companies have approved the deal which is expected to close next year. the combined company will keep both brands and web sites. virtual currency is now available at an a-t-m in chicago. a bitcoin a-t-m is up and running in the cassava restaurant in lakeview. the restaurant started accepting bitcoin as payment four months ago. bitcoin use began online, but it is not backed by any government. google's exchange rate says one bitcoin is equal to 591 dollars. having a wide face has it's benefits.... a new study says that men with wider faces are more likely to get a bonus. previous research suggests that people with large faces are more aggressive and likely to lie and cheat. i love the picture that they put up. >>researchers say that may be true... but they also tend to be more financially successful at firms. the study found that people with

did make one mistake. they did not cover their faces. servants cameras from inside the clinic were able to record clear video of the men and what they're wearing. this was last friday around 3:00 p.m.. two men walked into the clinic claiming to want to see the dentist. the pharmacist let the man and the next thing she knows the dentist was being insulted. then the man pulls a gun on him and ordered him to fill a been with xanax, norco, cold medicine with codeine and viagra. . the pharmacist and took them into the back room he was tied up to the dentist was duct tape. there were able to escape and as he said he asked us to disguise his voice and not name the clinic. >> they seemed familiar. hills said they had been there before. i've talked to other personnel and everyone says they seemed familiar.

new posts today, effectively doubling the patrol force along the rio grande river. but now, president obama is reportedly considering an executive order granting work permits to many, if not most, of the 11 million illegal immigrants already in america. that's despite a new poll by "the economist" that finds, 77 percent of americans believe thousands of newly arrived children should be returned to their home countries. hundreds of young central americans who crossed the mexican border illegally, are about to settle in chicago. mayor emanuel has ordered city officials to coordinate with charitable groups to provide food and shelter for the kids while the federal government decides what to do with them. alderman ed burke will lead the resettling effort. >> so many of them are young and are not able to dictate their surroundings. they need somebody to care for them. and as long as they are here, there ought to be a guaranteed that dave will be properly clothed and properly housed. >>mayor emanuel calls the flood of immigrant children across america's border a humanitarian

crisis. union workers at a river north company took to the streets in the loop protesting time limits on their bathroom breaks employees of watersaver faucet marched from the factory to a rally downtown yesterday. a new company policy requires workers to swipe an i-d card going in and out of the restroom. they can be punished for spending more than six minutes a day in the bathroom. company officials say the policy is necessary to crackdown on workers who spend too much time off the factory floor. the employees say it's a privacy violation and they filed a complaint with the state department of human rights. tens of thousands of music fans will converge on the loop this weekend for the big lollapalooza music festival. one college is offering visitors a different option to stay near the action. chicago's east-west university is renting out rooms in its new 17-story dormitory, known as "the flats". it's located on wabash, just one block west of grant park. a two-bedroom apartment sleeps four and you can rent it for 400 bucks a night. but there's a catch -- no alcohol or smoking is allowed in the building.

but the government spent countless hours examining the letters to u.s. embassies, school systems, congress and the white house, among others, to ensure that the powder wasn't toxic. other letters were sent to hotels in new jersey, as guests were arriving for the super bowl. hong minh truong was picked up yesterday in suburban dallas. a u.s. circuit court of appeals has struck down virginia's ban on same-sex marriage. a three-judge panel issued the ruling monday. the court found that the ban violated the united states constitution. the virginia case could ultimately end up in the u.s. supreme court. the ruling also affects cases in the carolinas and west virginia, because they are in the same judicial district. the north carolina attorney general said his office would no longer defend the states gay marriage ban. firefighters in northern california are still battling a wildfire that has burned nearly six square miles. but their efforts were disrupted sunday by a drone flying in the area. a citizen was flying the drone to get aerial video of the fire and firefighters. but the drone allegedly flew into an f-a-a flight restricted area over the fire and crews asked police to track down the owner and ground the drone.

they were concerned the drone would collide with planes and helicopters being used to fight the fire. the sheriff's department is now investigating the incident. a control tower recording captured an argument with a pilot, after a delta flight landed on the wrong runway in atlanta. a delta flight landed on a runway called lehman, instead of the one called "mike." the pilot accused the controller of giving him attitude, but the controller told him it was his job to correct the pilot when he messes up. later, another pilot, on the same frequency chimes in with "settle down, captain happy." delta says it's looking into the incident. that's also tim nickname. captain happy. >> but from that night in
