cooler along the lake. the skies are clear. shearson storms across the plains. close to 80 degrees today. cooler on sunday with a few of thunderstorms and a high of 78. house traffic? >> on the one problem on i 290. ramp work in the overnight hours and because of that there are some delays on the in bound trip. in addition to the at they are doing a full 15 minutes stop between 1:00 a.m.-5:00 a.m.. watch for delays on the deck otherwise everything else is in good shape. >>it was a much calmer night in missouri, after authorities took a new approach to the protests over a police officer's shooting of an unarmed teen. karin caifa reports.

>> from nearby st. louis to new york city. rallies and gatherings took place in cities across the nation to remember michael brown and to call for justice. police plan to teach release the name of the officer who shot brown today. officials had withheld his name for safety as protest rage. compared to the tear gas and smoke, a, night in a person following a visit from the governor of missouri. putting the missouri state highway patrol in charge of security in the st. louis suburbs and after knights of chaos, a different approach. >> step back and you look at something in a different environment and we decided we need to do something different. >> since the protests started they don't notice the difference. >> it's good to see this new approach already. there's been

such a different attitude and different interaction. >> meanwhile, the family said the best support is peaceful support. >> please keep showing us some peaceful demonstrations and continue to pray for us. it's been a long tough journey. we ask that you continue to pray. >> hundreds of people protested the death of michael brown in chicago. they held a rally at daley plaza yesterday, and took part in a national moment of silence. participants expressed concern about police brutality ... and they fear that what happened in ferguson, could also happen here. >> it's a process and we need to stop it. i think we can change the story as a people have the right to be angry and that we should actually stand up for ourselves and demand basic respect.

>> a black man was killed for being a black man. as a black man myself, that could have been me. >> back to the rally protesters marched through the new routgro >>police in chicago's cragin neighborhood are alerting people about a man who tried to lure a young boy into a sexual encounter. it happened the afternoon of august 7-th in the 28-hundred block of north lamon. a man approached the boy as he walked his dog. he told the boy he had a nice body, and asked if he wanted to go to a nearby alley. the boy said no, and walked away. one person was killed and two others were injured in a fire at a vacant building in the logan square neighborhood. it happened in the 34-hundred block of west armitage, just before midnight. officials say a mattress caught fire, and quickly spread. the building was engulfed in smoke when firefighters arrived.they pulled out a woman, who died ... and two men, who were injured. the building has been vacant for six months, but officials say the three had been staying there for a while. the city has been trying to broker peace between the cubs and wrigley rooftop owners for years.

>>now it finds itself the defendant in a lawsuit. patrick elwood is live with the story. >> good morning. the time for talking is over as you mentioned, the rooftop owners, eight of them are now suing the city of chicago. this say that the mayor has something to do with all of it. the owners are suing the city and specifically the landmark commission. at issue, the want to block a team from putting up the outfield signs because they would block their views. the owners claim the signs would violate an existing landmark ordinance protecting the field features. the lawsuit follows the landmark commission approval several weeks ago of the cubs plan to renovate the field and the seven sides are integral part of the team's future money-making platform. the lawsuit says that they would negotiate privately

with the mayor and staff and deliberately excluded the rooftop owners. no comments from the city or the cubs. only some of the owners are part of a lawsuit. not all of them which would seem to indicate dissension in the ranks. noticeably absent absent is the owner of murphy's bleachers. one the most vocal public of the owners. no comments all round, we will see what fans are saying outside the field as the morning progresses. >>taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a 16-year-old boy was shot to death at a strip mall in sauk village. three other people were hurt. two groups of young men argued outside the mall, and one man pulled a gun. more than a dozen rounds were fired, in the 17-hundred block of sauk trail. the dead boy was identified as nathaniel burns junior. police don't know yet what sparked the argument or the shooting. a chicago police sergeant is

accused of sexually abusing another officer's 9-year-old daughter. prosecutors say 61-year-old dennis barnes fondled and kissed the girl at a barbecue, hosted by her mother. the girl started crying, and told her mother what had happened. barnes is charged with sexual abuse and attempted sexual assault. he's been relieved of his police powers. barnes denies the charges. police in indonesia ran psychiatric tests on 19-year- old heather mack. she's being held along with her 21-year-old boyfriend as suspects in the beating death of her mother, sheila von weese-mack, whose body was found in a suitcase on the island of bali. police are searching for a man accused of assaulting his former girlfriend and abducting their children. police say dejavonte finley went to his children's home in zion yesterday, then demanded their mother go with him to the courthouse to recant two domestic battery cases against him. finley then fled with the kids, triggering an amber alert. he later left the kids with a relative.

scientists have discovered a new sinkhole at indiana dunes, where a six-year old boy from illinois was buried alive last summer. scientists returned to mount baldy yesterday for more testing... and were surprised when the new sinkhole developed right in front on them. last year, little nathan woessner from sterling fell into a hole in that same area... he spent three hours underground before he was rescued. scientists are now using special equipment to get underground images of the area. >> we are doing very detailed ground penetrating radar. the end result is we will be able to build a 3 d model and essentially be able to look inside and see where those features are occurring and what are they associated with. >>the mount baldy area of the dunes has been closed since july of last year. the special teams and first- team defense struggled in the bears second pre- season game against jacksonville. the bears were quickly down 13- nothing in the first quarter after the jaguars scored on

their first three drives of the game. but jay cutler answered with a ten- play, 65- yard drive, including a four- yard touchdown pass to brandon marshall. jimmy clausen stuggled in relief, but jordan palmer led two scoring drives in the fourth quarter with the go- ahead touchdown from senorise perry in the final minute. bears win 20-19. fans of chicago's *jackie robinson west* team had front row seats in front of a big t-v screen... to watch the little leaguers coast to victory in williamsport, pennsylvania. they cheered-on the home team at jackie robinson field in the morgan park neighborhood. the city and the chicago white sox teamed-up to provide the t- v feed along with hot dogs and drinks. marcus johnson played with the team as a boy in 19-87. it's like a homecoming. all these people out here, it's great to see. >> they are living my dream right now. i'm watching them and remembering way back. >> regardless of the score of wanted to know the kids on this

iraq's embattled prime minister is giving up his fight to hang onto his job. nouri al maliki at first refused to accept the appointment of his successor, haider al-abadi. now he says he'll support abadi, and his plans to push for a more inclusive government. maliki's resignation comes, as the islamist siege against religious minorities in northern iraq is winding down. thanks in part to u.s. airstrikes against "i-sis" militants, thousand of yazidi iraqis managed to leave a kurdish mountaintop, and make it to refugee camps. the *official death toll in west africa's ebola virus outbreak has passed one thousand people... and it may be much worse than that.

the world health organization believes the magnitude of the epidemic is *vastly underestimated. staff in the affected countries are seeing evidence of un- reported cases. it did not give an estimate of how many cases may be falling through the cracks. the total number of reported infections is currently about two thousand. a thousand texas national guardsmen are being deployed to the mexican border, where thousands of illegal immigrants continue to stream across the rio grande into america. governor rick perry will have more to say today about the guardsmen's mission. so far, they've been given no authority to arrest anyone. perry hopes their mere presence will be a deterrent to illegals, and to drug cartels who are exploiting the border crisis to sneak more drugs into america. there's a battle going on over a beach in florida that's pitting nudists against birds.

for 50 years, the small island of "passage key" has been a federally protected habitat for nesting birds. the u-s fish and wildlife service says there are a number of rare species there. but, the island has been popular with nudists recently. state wildlife officials claim they are disrupting rare birds and scaring them off. some residents think the nudists need to let the birds win. >> this is a bird sanctuary. we're blessed to live here but ultimately it belongs to them. >>a state wildlife spokesperson says it is a federal crime to walk on the island, but nudists are allowed to wade in the water off-shore. since the island is so remote, it's difficult for authorities to monitor it all of the time. they are meeting to discuss how to better protect the birds. >> the birds were there first. >> we had to be careful with that that video. can't get too close. >> you need a lot of sunscreen on the beach. we will need some here today to. it's almost cold

the next time the bears play at soldier field will be the regular season opener... and the defense and special teams have plenty to work on before then. kyle fuller and zach miller both left with minor injuries. the bears were quickly down 13- nothing in the first quarter after the jaguars scored on their first three drives of the game. but jay cutler answered with a ten- play, 65- yard drive, including a four- yard touchdown pass to brandon marshall. jimmy clausen struggled in relief, but jordan palmer led two scoring drives in the fourth quarter with the go- ahead touchdown from senorise perry in the final minute. bears win their second straight, 20-19. chicago's jackie robinson west taking on washington in the little league world series. pierce jones led of the game with a home run to center... he hit three homers in the game, and added a triple. the game was stopped in the fifth due to the mercy rule, so jackie robinson wins the first game, 12-2. and >> in the men's national

basketball team practiced against chicago thursday ahead of the exhibition on set to brazil. a scary moment. already lost one to a broken leg and down goes another. mri shows no damage though he will probably miss the game saturday. their gross was looking good. he gets the chance to coach a little better to. the assistant coach bruce says it's great for all of them. >> happy that he can come out here and participate in this type of event because it gives them something to do. until ever body shows up. not even talking basketball, just talking about life in general.

is school right now. you almost need a jacket. it's 57 along the lakefront. in general most of us are in the '50s. skies are clear we have some showers across the west some of that could get in here later. but today looks good. mostly sunny. maybe a scattered thunderstorms. mostly cloudy saturday. not a rainout on sunday just a few storms will talk more about next week coming up. >> if you slow spots this morning due to construction is bound to 90 also on 90 traveling westbound on the jane addams down to 24 mi. per hour. there's work out in that direction between arlington heights road. that will be out there until 5:00 a.m.. the chicago river walk project is still in place until august 23rd. state street bridge will be blocked off. and near the would field area 53 is blocked off between gulf road and 990 in the express lanes.

all traffic been diverted and that will last until 5:00 this morning. >>it was a much calmer night in missouri, after authorities took a new approach to the protests over a police officer's shooting of an unarmed teen. the missouri state highway patrol is now in charge of security in ferguson. after nights of chaos and clashes in the saint louis suburb, the tune has changed. police shed their riot gear and marched with the crowds, instead of pushing them back. the new officer in charge says he is as invested as anyone, in getting justice for michael brown. >> i grew up here. this is my home. it means a lot to me personally that we break the cycle of violence and build trust. show the upmost respect for every interaction. >>police plan to release the name of the officer who shot brown today. it was withheld for his safety.

hundreds of people protested the death of michael brown in chicago. they held a rally at daley plaza yesterday, and took part in a national moment of silence. those who rallied said they are concerned about police brutality ... and, that what happened in ferguson, could also happen here. after the rally, protesters marched through the loop. frustrated wrigley rooftop owners are now taking aim at city hall and taking it to court. patrick elwood is live outside the ballpark with details. >> some would say this was inevitable. time for the talking is over time for legal fisticuffs. for eight relief field rooftops owners in the city, those owners are suing the city and the landmarks commission. at issue, the owners want to block the team from putting up seven outfield signs because it would block their view. the owners claim the signs would violate an existing landmark ordinance protecting

the field. the lawsuit follows the approval of several weeks ago. the cubs plan to renovate those signs they are a big part of the plan. the lawsuit cited the team negotiated privately with the mayor and deliberately excluded the rooftop owners despite an existing contract. no comments all round from the city or from the cubs. only some of the owners are part of the lawsuit. not all of them which would seem to indicate dissension in the ranks. noticeably absent is set murphy, the owner of murphy's bleachers. one of the most vocal of the rooftop owners. it goes to court within the next few weeks. back to you. >>taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. a woman was killed and two men were hurt in a fire at a vacant

charged. the bears overcame early struggles for a comeback victory in the second preseason game against jacksonville. the special teams fumbled a kick- off and the defense allowed three straight scoring drives in the first quarter. jay cutler answered with a touchdown pass to brandon marshall, and jordan palmer led two scoring drives in the fourth to secure a 20- to- 19 victory. at the little league world series in williamsport, pennsylvania... chicago's "jackie robinson west" team showed they are a force to be reckoned with... winning 12 to two. marcus leshock was with local fans in pennsylvania... as a chicago team vies for the championship for the first time in 31-years. >> chicago's and jackie robinson west all stars. the great champions the first team to take the field in the opening ceremonies. later, in a moment

they had worked for years. stepping up to the plate in the little league world series. it was just as momentous for the parents. years of driving their kids to and from a practice, watching them put in the hours to get to this level. >> in the house on the field. they did it all the time. people have to understand this is hard work. >> while on the ground you'll see plenty of yellow hats. the great lakes champs' keep attracting new fans from across the country. some are drawn to their story. the first all americaafrican-american team in decades. >> baseball is great. i really exercises skills that will take them for. it's a great time to celebrate. >> others love how they swing the bat.

percent in 2012. emanuel blames his bad numbers on the continuing weak economy. and he prefers to focus on some *other numbers. >> there will be a time to look at and analyzed the poll numbers. the numbers on my desk are about early childhood education, community college systems and making sure we're providing the right education. >> the poll also suggest, emanuel is trailing potential challenger and c-t-u boss karen lewis. it was the republicans turn to take shots at the democrats thursday at the illinois state fair in springfield. bruce rauner rode in on his harley... and on the momentum of polling numbers showing him with a double digit lead over governor pat quinn. he laid out his points of emphasis for fixing the state's finances. but his personal finances remain the topic of speculation. rauner was endorsed by popular looking at my income tax return of always done everything. among

we will release them when they're prepared to be filed in october. >> he was endorsed by popular former governor jim edgar, along with senator mark kirk and other g-o-p leaders. there is no shortage of dumb criminals. and this one is right up there. police say a man broke into a drugstore through a drive-thru window, and tried to crack the safe, because he wanted the drugs inside it. that didn't work... so he tried to lift the safe into his trunk. no luck there, either... so he ended up tying the safe to his rear bumper and dragging it down the street. >> it seemed like a good idea ... >>but when he passed a police car, he was pulled over and arrested for breaking and entering... larceny... and drunk driving. >> that is poetic justice. >> there really is. i think the police officer may have let that go. we need to let them video
