in hyde park with more. >> in this orientation week here at the university of chicago. new students and their families are getting quite the welcome with news of this list. first reported riposted on the website jezebel yesterday afternoon. the list made up of 12 men who have been accused of sexually harassing and or sexually assaulting her peers. it was posted anonymously on line over the weekend by " concerned citizens ". they claim they're keeping the community safe from people known to commit levels of gender based violence that the university won't. the page has been taken down but there are reportedly flyers. the flier listed the names of six current and former students and after each name the class their schedule to graduate in. an east

each is assigned a color code. read the most severe. the university of chicago is one of dozens across the country currently being investigated for its handling of sexual assault cases. the university would not comment but it wouldn't refer to a press release from last week in which it says it is committed to preventing and addressing sexual misconduct, unlawful harassment. live on the university of chicago campus. back to. >>an alert this morning for de paul students. students to get their number. it doesn't sound terrible but here's the problem...those numbers are then being posted online. there have been several reports of this happening this month on the lincoln park campus. the men talk the students into giving their phone numbers, and then those phone numbers have been posted on a members-only website without the students permission. in at least one case, the man

touched a student inappropriately. >> we were laughing about it in class of of somebody getting our phone numbers. we didn't think it was a big deal. but we didn't know there posting its arms sites. that makes the kind of creepy. >> it seems like a weird thing to be alerted about. just a guy asking for a girls' number. >>anyone who feels harassed should call the depaul public safety department. a scare for passengers on a flight out of chicago-- it was struck by lightning and had to make an emergency landing. united airlines flight 46-13 was on its way to charleston, south carolina. one passenger says they smelled something burning after lightning jolted the plane. the pilots landed at columbia metroplitan airport and found that the air conditioning unit was damaged. no one was hurt. all 47 passengers were put on a bus to charleston. chicago's next archbishop is talking about his goals to help the poor and smaller dioceses. bishop blase cupich is back in

the chicago area for a tsk "catholic extension." he will lead that group when he officially replaces cardinal francis george on november 18- th. that group is devoted to helping dioceses that don't have the means to support themselves. cupich says he wants those smaller churches to speak out against inequality in the world. >> a look forward to continuing the tradition of building faith, inspiring hope and igniting the change. that is a part of the wonderful heritage. i could not be prouder than to be continuing to be a part of that progress of my days as a bishop. >>cupich has not decided where he will live in chicago. he has already spent a night in the residence where cardinal francis george lives, in the gold coast. cupich says he wants to live where he can be the most effective. a man accused of a double murder in joliet goes on trial today-- but he doesn't want a jury to decide it. opening statements in the trial of justin miner begin this morning... and a *judge will decide miner's guilt or innocence. miner and three other people were charged of murdering eric

glover and terrance rankins. prosecutors say miner helped lure the men to a home... then robbed and killed them. bethany mckee was convicted earlier this year... and alisa massaro struck a plea deal. the final suspect- adam landerman is still behind bars awaiting trial. a man is in custody this morning after yesterday's hostage standoff. he held his two young children and two pets inside a semi-truck. the standoff occurred on the 44-hundred block of south cicero avenue just before rush hour. police were responding to a call from a woman in bedford park. she said her husband was holding her two small children and two dogs in the cab of a truck and wouldn't release them. police responded and a short chase began. but in the end, the man handed the two children over to officers and gave himself up without a fight. the city of chicago plans to double the number of cabs that are accessible to people with disabilities. there are about 6 thousand taxis in chicago-- but only about 160 of them have wheelchair access. mayor emanuel will announce a plan today that adds at least 200 more accessible taxis over the next four years.

the expansion will be paid for *in part by the city's "accessibility fund." that fund is supported by fees paid by the taxi and ride-share industries. those "divvy" bike-share bikes are putting the blackhawks' colors on the road. five of the bikes now feature the familiar black-and-red... and each has the number of a top player. each of the bikes also has a hashtag... old son in a hot car to died last june. the defense says it was an accident but prosecutors say researched online how to kill a child in a hot car. the mother has not been charged. her attorney says she passed a polygraph test to show she was not involved. the test was not court sanctioned and it was administered by a private company. >> at least one hundred demonstrators were arrested on wall street....trying to call attention to climate change. thousands of protesters flooded the nation's financial district in new york city monday. they staged a sit-in at the new york stock exchange and marched down wall street. activists highlighted big businesses role in climate change and called on wall street to make changes. today world leaders are meeting at the united nations least 100 people were arrested. a woman in los angeles gave birth on an l-a freeway. no small task. there's more though...baby savannah weighed eleven pounds, six ounces. this was the fourth child for sandra and bolivar vilchez.

doors to ensure they were locked. >>the los angeles times quotes a secret service agent as saying, gonzalez told him the *atmosphere was collapsing, and he had to warn president obama. the president had just left the white house, moments earlier. investigators found 800 rounds of ammunition in gonzalez's car... but no gun. the owner of the baltimore ravens disputes a report on how his organization handled the ray rice domestic violence case. e-s-p-n reports some ravens executives knew what was on the rice elevator video and pushed the n-f-l for a light penalty. rice was initially suspended two games for hitting his then- fiance'. that suspension became indefinite after a leaked video showed the attack. the owner of the ravens says no one on the team saw that video until it was posted online. he also disputed the integrity of e-s-p-n's un-named sources. >> his attorney and agent and his friend. they're building a case for reinstatement. the best way to build that case is to make everybody else look like

they are lying. >>e-s-p-n says it stands by its report. the n-f-l players union is appealing rice's suspension. rice's representatives say the elevator video was *edited . congresswoman tammy duckworth is denying any involvement in the patient scheduling scandal at the veterans administration. duckworth's republican challenger, marine corps reserve colonel larry kaifesh, says he is concerned that duckworth was in the middle of the scandal... though he didn't accuse her of any direct actions that contributed to the v.a. backlog. from 2009 to 2011, duckworth was assistant secretary of veterans affairs. a new poll has republican bruce rauner taking a slim lead in the governor's race. "we ask america" has rauner leading goveror pat quinn 44 to 41-percent. the narrow spread is within the margin of error. quinn was on the campaign trail yesterday... attending a kickoff for renovating the cta dan ryan stop. he also picked up the endorsement of the illinois chapter of the sierra club. the conservation group says he understands that protecting the environment creates jobs in fields like renewable energy.

challenger bruce rauner picked up an endorsement from prominent african-american ministers in chicago. calling itself "the economic empowerment forum," the pastors' group says it's backing rauner because he's been working to end poverty in the city for years. rauner pledged to improve schools and employment opportunities in low income communities. americans say they want more religion in politics. according to a study from pew research... 72 percent of americans say religion is losing its influence in politics. and half of those surveyed, want religious groups to express their views on political and social issues. republicans want churches to express their political views much more than democrats. 41 percent of people say politicians don't talk about their religious faith enough. hundreds gather to celebrate the town's 200 anniversary. the goal to break the guinness book of world records for the longest coral the bratwurst. it weighed

threatened warehouses as it burned under a large building in the port of los angeles monday night. los angeles city fire marine units battled the blaze, and divers were in the water to assess the scene. the building in danger is used for loading and unloading ships. it's also used for steel storage. a number of port workers were evacuated from the structure. there's no word yet on what

caused the fire. a 22-year-old rutgers university student was killed by a black bear. darsh patel, was hiking sunday in the apshawa peserve in new jersey with four friends. a black bear began to follow them, so they ran in different directions. four of them later found each other... and called police to search for their missing friend.after two hours, patel's body was found.. evidence pointed to a bear attack. the 300-pound-bear was at the scene and euthanized immediately. this is the first recorded death since 18-52.... wesleyan university in connecticut has ordered its fraternities to become co- educational. houses on campus must have members of both sexes.. with each gender represented well. groups have until 20-16 to comply. the move comes less than a month after weslyan closed a frat house after a woman seriously injured by falling from a third-floor window at a party. a report found increased drug and alcohol use among members of single-sex greek organization.. members also had lower grades than average students. the world health organization predicts the ebola outbreak will get exponentially worse if

more is not done to stop it. over 58-hundred people have been infected in west africa. over 28-hundred of them have died. researchers say there could be up to 20-thousand victims, in three west african countries, by november. they say the outbreak will continue to grow until infected patients are tracked down and isolated. they say the outbreak could last years, if control efforts don't work. now that summer is over... it's time to think about flu season. the centers for disease control and prevention says people should start getting flu shots now...because it takes a couple weeks for the vaccination to start working. nearly six out ten flu cases reported last year were people between 18 and 64. about 100 children died and most of them had not had a flu vaccine. anyone six months or older are eligible for the vaccine. flu season begins as early as october. facebook founder mark zuckerberg is renovating his $10 million dollar fixer-upper. his neighbors are finding the project a nuisance. the block has been overtaken by noisy jackhammers, backhoes and loads of other construction equipment that has kept them

from parking in front of their homes for the last 17 months. zuckerberg sent out fliers more than a year ago telling them his plans to renovate his six- bedroom 19-20's home. contractors say the disruption isn't out of the ordinary for a big job. a man from arkansas is traveling the for some police officers or to have more cameras pointed at them. a group raised money to buy 110 small cameras to record police activity. that's twice as many cameras as the police officers will be using. this comes after an officer shot and killed and 18 year-old boy. the say the officers will not interfere with the new cameras. it's no different than people using cameras on the cellphone. >>here are a few stories that are black a t-v reporter in alaska was also moonlighting as the operator of a medical marijuana business. something had to give.
