archbishop of chicago until november 18th but last night cupicth was called in early. the archdiocese did not give any specifics about the cardinals a condition except to confirm he is fighting an infection and is on antibiotics. the cartoon recently repeated three rounds of chemotherapy after his third cancer diagnosis. the bishop was at. >> he was under some real pain and he is suffering and of course he is taking his experimental medication. one never knows how that's going to work out. my message is to keep praying. >> the bishop says he is confident that cardinal george is going to be fine. back to you. >>the search continues this

morning for a man from rogers park, who escaped from prison. marcus battice escaped from downstate vandalia correctional center yesterday afternoon. that prison is about 245 miles south of chicago. he was in prison for possessing a stolen vehicle, and he was eligible for parole in january. battice was last seen wearing his standard prisoner uniform. his last known address was the 77-hundred block of north marshfield. arrests for a group of protesters trying to keep dyett high school open. they spent hours chained together outside of the mayor's office. the school set to close at the end of the school year. when the building closed...dozens were escorted out. another 11 chained to a statue stayed until midnight when they were arrested. arrests in the case of a dolton animal hopital where pets were found dead and neglected. police arrested veterinarian amardeep sangha yesterday on charges of animal cruelty. the manager, sharon cargile of chicago, was arrested at the clinic itself. police found the dead dogs

sunday when they dropped off a *stray there. the give away for police...the terrible smell >> immediately we found the situation that can't imagine anyone would say is anything other than deplorable. >>not clear if the clinic was in any *financial trouble. but now, sheriff dart will ask the state to shut it down. he'll also push for tougher licensing rules. of the nine sick dogs, only seven are expected to recover. prosecutors in the murder of a chicago woman in bali, must now take a step *back in their investigation. last week, the associated press reported, tommy schaefer confessed that he murdered sheila von wiese mack, the mother of his girlfriend *heather mack. but now, an *attorney for schaefer says his client did *not confess. the victim's body was found stuffed into a suitcase, in the trunk of a taxi last month. heather mack and tommy schaefer have been in police custody since then. a string of smash and grab thieves have north side shop

owners on alert. the thieves have hit at least four stores in the last two weeks. they've hit from old town to river north and the gold coast. they are quick... breaking down glass doors and windows. within moments they make out with hundreds of thousands of dollars in designer goods. investigators say the thieves...which may be a group of about ten...may be casing the stores for up to two weeks. and thieves hitting another spot. this time a west side elementary school. 30-thousand dollars worth of computer equipment stolen. thirty i-pads and a laptop computer were taken from the third floor computer lab at james weldon elementary school sometime monday night. police say the thieves used a sledge hammer to break the locks off two computer carts. two cases of pertussis--better known as whooping cough-- have been reported at new trier high school in winnetka. the bacterial infection has symptoms that seem similar to a common cold. but it can quickly progress to severe coughing, and can be very serious in young children. it's highly contagious, spread through coughing and sneezing. pertussis caused a school-wide

panic at new trier in 20-06... when more than 30 cases were reported. low supplies of road salt... could be a problem this winter. salt suppliers say they have less road salt on hand because of last winter. that means prices are rising...leaving some suburban budgets in trouble. for communities unable to secure bids through the state... they have to find salt on their own... and often pay steep prices. most men dread the thought of going bald. studies say shedding hair may be an indicator of a health problem... but it may also be good news for your love life. new research has linked male- pattern baldness to an aggressive form of prostate cancer. it's also linked to higher rates of heart disease and thyroid problems. bald men also tend to have higher levels of testosterone. it means more hair loss but a higher libido. >> all these health studies. the good and bad. >> let's take a look at the day.

on monday. police say tesney returned to the u-p-s facility yesterday, wearing his uniform and shot two male supervisors before shooting himself. investigators say tesney targeted his victims and entered the building with his gun hid under his uniform. an arrest warrant is out for the last man to be seen with missing college student hannah graham. the 18 year old university of virginia student disappeared on september 13-th. several surveillance cameras captured her walking around in the early morning hours. police say jesse matthew was with her. he's now wanted for suspicion of abduction. police obtained an arrest warrant after they searched his apartment and had a lab analyze some clothing. matthew asked for a lawyer at the police station last weekend. at that time...there wasn't an arrest warrant. narcotics agents in oklahoma seized more than 100 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop. they were bound for chicago from mexico. agents say the volume of drugs in this bust surprised them. they think it may be part of a larger shipment delivered in several vehicles. the drugs were 97 percent pure with a street value of 1-point-

>> there is a recurring infection that he has and it's part of this. those are controllable and i'm confident he will be fine. >> but even being confident is not enough. the archbishop is asking for prayers. >> it will county judge heard graphic details of last year's murders of two men in joliet. joshua minor is on trial for strangling a man-to-man in an apartment on hickory street. prosecutors say miner and three friends plotted to lure the men there, then rob them. but they say, as miner punched rankins, glover kicked miner in the head. that's when miner and his friend adam landerman strangled both men. landerman is awaiting his own murder trial.

>> the number of inmates in prison has increased in 35 years. roughly 215,000 inmates in federal prisons across the country. 4800 less than last year and the first decline since 1980. the government expects to see another decrease of about 2000 inmates next year and another 10,000 the year after that. eric holder says changes in sentencing policies are the main reason for that drop. >>sierra leone's army is closing borders with liberia and guinea in order to stop the spread of ebola. the disease has killed more than 28-hundred people in those countries. last week, sierra leone put its people on a three day lockdown so health care workers could visit homes. the c-d-c announced its latest predictions for the ebola outbreak. it's worst case projections say there could be "one point four" million cases in liberia and sierra leone, by january 20-th. smoke from the wildfire in northern california is affecting more than just the golden state. nasa released these satellite photos showing that smoke from the king fire has harmed air

protests returned to ferguson, missouri, after some demands were not met. ferguson's city council had a meeting last night. officials decided to delay the forming of a citizen police review board. the council did change court fines and charges that some people say singled out the poor. dozens of people gathered in protest, after the meeting. one beauty shop was broken into and looted.

this street side memorial for michael brown caught fire tuesday morning. the memorial was setup days after a ferguson police officer shot and killed brown in the middle of a street. police say they believe candles caused the fire. residents in the area began to after the fire was put out. students took the streets in denver, to support their teachers, and protest a change in the way their schools teach history. the students are upset that their school board is backing a history curriculum that discourages civil disobedience. they say, it amounts to *censoring history. and they oppose a plan by the school board to tie a teacher's pay, to the academic performance of his students. stocks continued to slide tuesday. the dow dropped 117 points. nasdaq down 19. s-and-p fell 12. iphone users.. are buzzing on apple forums about an unsuspecting ability of the new "iphone six plus." it could be a bit too flexible.

for a salute he gave to a marine. the white house posted this video showing the president leading marine one in new york yesterday. he saluted the marine with the coffee cup in his right hand. critics quickly attacked saying the president was a little disrespectful. the state's oil back to ronald reagan in 1981. it's a tradition. the u.s. navy man says saluting is the most important all military courtesies'. no salute when a person is carrying an object in their hands. >>fonts can be fancy... and in some cases, certain types of lettering can be... well... confusing. take, for example, the sign over the "tuck-in coffee shop" in england. sort of brings new meaning to the word "cursive." more than a few locals in the town of doncaster have questioned the choice of font on the sign.
