headed to prison. he just learned his sentence in the last half-hour, gets a maximum of five years for double homicide in the shooting death -- for culpable homicide in the shooting death of his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp, last year. prosecutors pushed for at least 10 years in prison. the defense argued that pistorius would be too vulnerable in prison since he is a double-amputee. pistorius was escorted out of court by police to a holding cell after the sentence was read. new overnight, a chicago police officer killed a 17-year-old. he pulled out a knife and slashed attire on a squad car, tried to break a passenger window. when officers got out to chase him, he waved the knife and then shot him. >> the officers were responding

to someone who's in a crazed condition, who stabbed out tires in a squad car, you obviously aren't going to sit down and have a cup of coffee with him. he is a serious threat to the officers. he leaves them no choice at that point but to defend themselves. >> the teenagers name has not been released. >> a man on a bike grabbed a 14-year-old girl, then biked away. there is the area near 76th and almost we. police have a vague description of the suspect. >> a suspected serial killer is charged with murdering one woman in indiana. >> facing charges in the death of at least six more. nancy has the latest. >> lourdes and dan, gary police are still piecing together their cases against the man, who has

told police there are more cases dating back two decades. the suspected serial killer is charged in the murder of a woman at motown 6 in hammond last friday -- a motel 6 in hammond last friday. he led police to various locations. vann was a registered sex offender in texas, who had recently served five years in prison for raping and trying to strangle a woman in austin. his latest arrest as authorities there re-examine unsolved murders. he is said to be intelligent and well spoken, telling investigators there may be dozens of additional victims in indiana, illinois, texas, even mexico. >> he is taking responsibility, acknowledgment, pointing out specifics. he has information that is pretty accurate.

>> it is possible that the investigation will lead to more victims. we have to be careful about what we say at this point. is only charged in the murder and robbery last week. the 19-year-old call girl was found dead in a motel bathtub and, according to the affidavit, she had apparently been strangled, there were signs of a struggle in the room, where a shirt button was found on the floor. vann's shirt was missing a button at the time of his arrest. toice say vann was quick confess to the murder. because of the high number of abandoned buildings, authorities are said to be planning a sweep with cadaver dogs. >> two weeks from election day. opponentquinn and his

ended for dozens of patients who had had contact with thomas duncan, who died. whilerses got sick caring for duncan. if someone in chicago gets sick, they will be treated at one of four local hospitals. northwestern hospital will only take adults. be visitings will the hospitals this week to make sure they are ready. villee university hospital reached a deal just hours before a strike. the contract had been extended twice since it expired in august. tisdale high school 86 voted 4-3 in favor of the teachers contract. teachers threatened to call a strike as early as october 14.

even with a pile of state regulations in place. it lookso pet stores, good. clean, happy dogs. a big binder helps track where they came from, but in some cases, the numbers don't match or are simply missing. who makes sure what is on this paper is accurate? >> that's a good question. the usda and your department of ag in illinois? youhat stores have to give the name of the breeder and their license. unless you know where to look for that information, it is meaningless. >> it is tricky to navigate that world. they like it that way. nobody is finding that store -- minding that store. >> it isn't easy to navigate a webpage. we tracked some of the commercial breeders.
