the officer is alert and is talking and is now in stable condition after being shot in the chest. shortly before 1:00 a.m. the off-duty officer was in his car near langley when three suspects approach in what could have been an attempted robbery. one of the suspects shot the off-duty officer as he tried to drive away. he was hit to the chest but able to track a few blocks and fled down in marked unit that took him to university of chicago hospital. his transfer to mount sinai after that. police have blocked off several streets in the area including an area near a bar. but still not clear what if anything that bar has to do with the shooting. police were shootinsearching for anything ie area.

>> step-by-step, door by door to see if anybody in the community helps this man. that could solve the directions of this. dropped any items. >> we are told the officer who is in the year veteran of the force and also a father is alert and talking. he is in stable condition here at the hospital. but the search for people responsible is ongoing. >>police in the gresham neighborhood interrupted a late night robbery and shot one of the suspects, but not before the robbery victims were also shot, one fatally. officers on patrol witnessed two suspects holding up a pair of men in an alley in the 79 hundred block of south justine. shots were fired, killing one man and injuring the other. the suspects fled and during the chase, police say one suspect turned and pointed an object at officers, who fired.

the suspect is hospitalized. the other suspect got away. a 16-year-old boy and two teenage girls were shot in the leg in the humboldt park neighborhood at about 6:40 last night. it happened in the 35-hundred block of west chicago avenue. the boy was hit in the right thigh and taken to a hospital in serious condition. the girls, 15 and 14, were not hurt as seriously. a doctor who treated ebola patients in africa, is now an ebola patient in new york. days after doctor craig spencer returned from guinea, he came down with fever, nausea and body aches... all symptoms of ebola. but *before he fell sick, he rode the new york subway, and even went bowling. some new yorkers are worried that he may have infected other people. but public officials are quick say remind people that ebola isn't passed by casual contact. doctor spencer quarantined no reason to be large. >> the city is ready. >> dr. spencer quarantined himself when he started feeling

sick. then, he checked in to an isolation unit at new york's bellevue hospital. as an extra precaution, his fiancee and two other people who had close contact with him, have been quarantined. illinois health officials confirm, a girl who was monitored for ebola at the university of chicago medical center, tested negative. she was flying from liberia to america earlier this week, when she got sick on a connecting flight to chicago. an adult passenger who also got sick, was treated and sent home, with no signs of ebola. the canadian man who shot and killed a soldier, and shot up the country's parliament building, had terrorist connections. investigators now say, emails from michael zehaf-bibeau were found on the computer of a known islamist terror suspect. and he had communicated online with other islamist extremists. still, the muslim convert was never flagged as a potential threat. canadian authorities didn't learn of his plans to travel to *syria, until after he was killed on parliament hill. the parliament's sergeant at this individual had been in ottawa since the least october

2nd, 2014. was in town to deal with a passport issue. also hoping to leave for syria. >> parliament sergeant at arms, kevin vickers, was hailed as a hero yesterday, for firing the shot that brought down the gunman. it was the first time vickers had ever shot anyone in the line of duty. warter back on...just in time to get ready this morning in south suburban robbins. you will have to boil your water. thousands of people were without water for much of the day yesterday...after a construction crew broke a water main. they were putting in light poles ...and say their map did not show a water main was underneath them. the village gave out jugs of water to anyone who came to pick them up. the water was restored late last night, but now a boil order is in effect through tonight as a precaution. students at the skokie middle school that was closed... head back to class this morning. mccracken middle school was closed for 2 days as authorities investigated a series of threatening instagram posts delivered to sixth

graders. authorities said a student from mccracken sent the posts. school officials said students involved in the posts will not be in school today. police will be at the school as students arrive and leave. all before and after school activities are cancelled. no classes again today for students in waukegan. they have missed 15 days of school... as the strike continues. the two sides are stuck on teachers salaries. it's taking a toll on non-profits trying to keep kids busy. the waukegan library and the boys and girls club... have both opened their doors to students who need a place to stay while school is closed and parents are at work. >> we try to provide math and science activities for some of the child care organizations that stepped up and provided extra child care. >> i think we have been shocked at how many have come to the door. we feel terrible about how many we had to put turn away. that is sad because we know the need is there. >>the strike, is putting a strain on these organization's staff and budgets. the boys and girls club is spending an extra thousand

dollars a day to open their doors longer. prosecutors will ask a judge to consider other cases of alleged misconduct against police commander glenn evans who is charged with sticking his gun down a man's throat. supporters of evans tried to keep our camera away as he left the criminal courts building yesterday. his attorneys filed subpoenas demanding emails between w-b-e-z radio and police investigators. they say confidential reports about d-n-a on the gun from the man's throat were leaked to w-b- e-z. evans has been named in seven lawsuits claiming misconduct. the illinois tollway is suing to collect millions of dollars in fines from even more chronic offenders. the tollway filed 47 new lawsuits yesterday, bringing the total to 4-hundred lawsuits over the last two years. the agency is trying to collect eleven-million dollars from habitual violators, who have refused to pay tolls and fines. commercial customers are the target. not clear if individual offenders will be hit next. a bridge that was built to eliminate one of the worst railroad bottlenecks in the country, is officially open. the so-called "englewood flyover", at 64th and states

a man who tried to kill four new york police officers with a hatchet, may have been a terrorist. zale thompson was killed after critically injuring one officer yesterday, and cutting a second officer's arm. thompson had a criminal record, and he was kicked out of the navy for misconduct. in facebook posts attributed to thompson, he wrote that america's military could be defeated on its home soil by a guerrilla revolt. he wrote, they are weaker at home... we are scattered an decentralized... we can use this as an advantage." a helicopter and a small plane collided in mid-air over frederick, maryland.

three people are dead, two others injured. the helicopter was on a training exercise. the plane was lining up to land at frederick municipal airport. the chopper was leased to a flight school. both aircraft ended up in a wooded area. everyone aboard the helicopter died. the occupants of the plane managed to deploy an emergency parachute to slow the plane's descent. no one on the ground was hurt. a rare tornado tore through washington state. the twister ripped off roofs, uprooted trees and shattered windows in longview... in southwest washington. meteorologists say the tornado carved a path more than a mile long... packing winds of between 86 and 110 miles per hour. there were no reports of injuries. a group of bikers defy the california highway patrol while performing stunts on a busy freeway. the incident on october 11th was recorded on video that's now been posted on you tube. as many as 50 cyclists popped wheelies and ignored a lone highway patrol officer. they dismissively waived him away.

realizing he was outnumbered, he pulled over to wait for backup, but by the time it arrived, the bikes had exited onto city streets and scattered. zookeepers in minnesota are eagerly awaiting the arrival of, not one ... but two baby gorillas. a gorilla has never been born at the como zoo before. one of the pregnant gorillas is due any day now. the other is not expected to give birth until december. the zoo released rare ultrasound video of her baby. officials say its special, because gorillas have to present their bellies in order for the video to be captured. como zoo is home to seven gorillas, including the father of both babies. that's very cute. >> let's take a look at the clips from yesterday. we had cloud cover here which did scare that but this is from colorado. further to the west you could see a bigger chunk of that son been taken away by the moon. but

year-old off-duty officer was in his car near 74 and that in the park manor neighborhood, three suspects approached him and what his family says was an attempted robbery. one suspect shot the officer as he tried to drive away. hit in the chest but still able to drive. he drove a few blocks to flag down a marked police car which then took him to the university of chicago hospital where he was transferred to mount sinai a short time later. police have blocked off several streets in that area including the area around a bar that his family says he was asked prior to the attempted robbery. also say he was not involved in any altercations at the bar. police are searching for anything that could lead to the suspect. >> detectives are out there going step by step possibly door by door to see if anybody who lives in the community may have witnessed this may have stalled the direction they may have fled

suspected serial killer in northwest indiana. darren vann is suspected of killing seven women. one of them was found at a motel in hammond, the other six were at abandoned homes in gary. vann has only been charged in two of the murders, so far. but, he reportedly confessed to police that he killed all of them ... including 36-year-old kristine williams. her family says they knew she had a dangerous lifestyle involving drugs and prostitution, but she didn't deserve to die that way. am i don't understand how a person ... 9 i just hope she did not suffer. >>williams says he learned of his daughter's death over the phone. he says the coroner told him his daughter's body was mummified, and that she had been dead for at least ten months. police in ferguson, missouri are preparing for riots, when a grand jury issues its report on the police shooting of michael brown. the report is due within a month. evidence leaked to the press,

appears to support officer darren wilson's claim that he shot brown in self-defense. protesters characterized the shooting as a racially- motivated attack. and the human rights group amnesty international claims, ferguson police abused the rights of some protesters by using tear gas and rubber bullets to break up the crowds. it's likely to be several months before the iraqi army can muster a ground attack against "isis" terrorists. and a similar attack in syria will take even longer. that's the assessment of the u.s. military's central command. while the iraqi air force is able to conduct airstrikes on "isis" positions, military commanders say it'll take time to properly train and equip a ground force capable of driving "isis" out of captured cities like mosul. thousands of iraqi soldiers were killed over the summer, and thousands more deserted, as "isis" swept across the country. you know jon stewart as host of the "daily show" on comedy central, but stewart is branching out. he's just directed his first movie. "rosewater" is the true story of an iranian journalist who was imprisoned and tortured, suspected of being an american

according to a new survey from a research center. 43 percent of adults internet users have

personally experienced harassment on line. house intern in the food court 40-percent of adult internet users have personally experienced harassment online. and nearly 75 percent have witnessed someone else being harassed. the most likely targets are young adults, ages 18-to-29. the survey shows females face the harshest kinds of abuse -- including physical threats, stalking, and sexual harassment -- mostly on social media. here are a few stories that are trending online this morning ... a notre dame freshman football player was spotted in the stands at a new york knicks game... with a porn star. he is justin brent... she is lisa ann, age 42. t-m-z reports, *she made the first contact, by reaching out to brent with a few photos on instagram. t-m-z says they were on a date. the decision by toys r us to pull the "breaking bad" action figures from its stores isn't going over well with one of the actors from the popular show. aaron paul, who played meth cooker jesse pinkman on the series tweeted this.. "wait, so toys r us pulled all of the breaking bad figures from their shelves and still sells barbie? hmmmm...i wonder what is more damaging?"
