missed out on 19 days of schools. frustration has been brewing, boiling over at the school board meeting last night when many say one board member crossed the line. the message down and shut up! >> that outburst by the elected board member has some community members calling for her resignation. an overflow crowd of hundreds of parents and students and striking teachers sounded off because the board planned to cut comments short. instead the entire meeting was cut short as of board members got up and walked out. the mayor called the entire proceeding and embarrassment for waukegan. all while police and security had to break up escalating arguments through the auditorium all sparked by growing anger over

the lengthy teachers' strike. the good news is that negotiations will resume this morning at 10:00 a.m. with both sides reported progress from yesterday. the contract includes salary, health benefits and work conditions. life in waukegan. back to you. >>get ready! stepped up security at federal buildings in chicago and across the country. the department of homeland security is ordering more security for more than 95- hundred government buildings. last night several "federal protective service" vehicles federal building and the 1/5 kluczynski building in the loop. no specific threat being made. this is a precaution against followers of terrorist organizations. >> we are focused on a different kind of threat. right now we worry about the guy that walks in with a semi-automatic or a backpack as we saw at the boston marathon and bombings and just

the crowd becomes the target. that a worry. >>a homeland security official told c-n-n there is "no new intelligence" suggesting that u.s. government buildings face additional threats. an accused serial killer returns to court this morning in crown point. darren vann has confessed to killing seven women in gary and hammond. he has been charged in two of those deaths. last week, vann refused to speak during his first court hearing, because he didn't want it held in open court, with widespread press coverage. but the judge told vann he'll stay in prison, perhaps for the rest of his life, if he keeps refusing to answer the charges against him. a man has been exposing himself to girls in lincoln park. that has happened at least three times, on orchard and howe streets, south of armitage. the most recent incident happened saturday afternoon. no one has been hurt, and no arrests have been made. police released a vague description of the suspect. no one was hurt when an airplane backing from a gate got stuck in a fence at o'hare. you're looking at pictures from passengers. last night's frontier airlines flight 13-43... was set to depart for washington at about 6:20... when it's wing clipped

scene in new york after a woman was *be-headed and dragged outside. a woman in her sixties was found dead outside an apartment building last night. police say her son may have chopped off her head. they say he took the body outside, before he kicked her head down the block. the son, who is in his thirties, then killed himself by jumping in front of a train. a weapon has not been found. police didn't release any names or possible motives. lava from hawaii's famed

kilauea but volcano has now reached homes. in the small town of pahoa...the lava melted through a fence. it now covers at least two families' yards. as many as 50 homes are in the lava's path. it's moving about 40 feet per hour. the volcano erupted in june... and the two-thousand degree lava has traveled about 12 miles since then. there's no way to stop it until it cools on its own. a sweet homecoming for a nurse in dallas. amber vinson was released from an atlanta hospital yesterday... and headed back to dallas. she became the second nurse to contract the ebola virus about two weeks ago... while treating thomas duncan. he was the liberian man who began showing symptoms of ebola after arriving in texas and died in a hospital there. the other nurse, nina pham... was discharged from a national institutes of health facility last week. vinson thanked god and her doctors for her care. the met as a nurse and now someone with experience with like to be caring for a life- threatening illness, and so appreciative and grateful for

went off. the baseball star is an admitted steroid user who hit 462 home runs during 17 years in the major leagues. his final season was with the white sox in 2001. ancient skeleton remains have been unearthed in idaho. these remains of a mammoth fossil date back 70-thousand years. idaho state university students discovered the remains near american falls reservoir in boise. they found them in an irrigation drainage... about 30- feet below the reservoir high- water mark. the bureau of reclamation says the threat of rising water in the reservoir forced the students to act quickly to recover the remains. the fossils are being transferred to the idaho museum of natural history in pocatello. marcus is *live in naperville. hi marcus! >> good morning. we are at this house here in naperville, one of our traditions, we were here last halloween and last christmas. you may wonder why. there were hundreds of people here last night. and judging

two hours. the plane was returned to the gate for evaluation. nasa is investigating what went wrong when an unmanned rocket launch ended in disaster. a nasa contracted rocket exploded and fell out of the sky shortly after it lifted off in virginia. it was carrying supplies for the international space station. no one was hurt. flames covered about 100 yards as the rocket crashed back to its launchpad. >> we conducted a lot of testing and analysis to get ready. but something went wrong. we will find out what it was. no injuries. and the safeguards worked as they should have and all the was lost was hardware. >>that hardware cost more than 200-million dollars. nasa reported no technical concerns before the launch. a suspected serial rapist who

began his crime spree in massachusetts... is believed to have been arrested in new york. police say 26-year-old gregory lewis raped a 13 year old girl in southbridge massachusetts while out on bail, back in august. according to investigators: he cut off his g-p-s bracelet and left it on the victims front lawn.. from there, police say he assaulted and robbed a woman at a north carolina hotel... then headed west-- where he's charged in another attack in denver. community alert on the north was side where men are luring women to begin buildings and sexually assaulting them. the founder victims by entering on-line ads for escorts. detectives warn women not to respond to contact from passengers or should say from strangers. also, women should travel in pairs and avoid isolated locations. >>a chicago-bound amtrak train crashed into a semi, north of lafayette, indiana. but remarkably, the driver of the semi walked away unhurt.

passengers on the train weren't so lucky. 24 of them were injured. fortunately, none of the injuries was serious. the driver says he was already on the tracks when he saw the train bearing down on him. the truck ended up nearly 600 feet away, completely destroyed. the train passengers were put on *buses to chicago. parents and students in carol stream are upset with a substitute teacher who used a racial slur as part of a lesson on the civil war. it happened at jaystream middle school. and when four black students heard the offending word, they asked the teacher to stop using it. but she didn't. >> her next statement was to inform the girls that back then, you all would be called the and word. >> it was racist. she was directing it to me and my friends. >> i was crying for the rest of the day after that. when i went home and cry even more. >>the school district says the substitute teacher won't be back again. but some carol stream parents

filed a police report. they consider the teacher's remarks a hate crime. a northwestern professor is now suing a student who accused him of sexual misconduct. the student made those accusations against philosophy professor peter ludlow in 2012. northwestern disciplined him for making inappropriate sexual advances, but it did not fire him. ludlow is now suing the student for defamation. the suit says the student made false statements after she turned down *her sexual advances. ludlow and the student are both suing northwestern for its handling of the case. the city of chicago admitted that it secretly shortened some yellow stoplights, to collect extra revenue from its red- light cameras. and now, the head of the city transportation department says, the city will keep the extra ticket money it collected. 77 thousand drivers got 100- dollar tickets at several city intersections when they tried to beat the lights. now, the city says, any yellow light lasting 2-point-9 seconds or longer, is in line with national standards... so there's no reason to return the money.

man from missouri a last minute stay of execution. mark christeson was scheduled to die by lethal injection. the court stayed the execution over concerns that his legal counsel was ineffective. christeson was convicted of killing a woman and her two children in 19-98. among the concerns was the failure of his attorneys to meet a filing deadline for an appeal hearing before a federal court. it's uncommon for someone to be executed without a federal court appeal hearing. we want to alert you to a computer scam that's already cost thousands of people a lot of money. >> i was paying my bills and then something popped up. suspicious activity that was happening. i was worried so called the 100 number. >>once the scammer convinces you to give him access to your
