going to want to forget. the biggest issue is cold and there will be lots of wind. but stich a look, currently at 45 degrees. we will cool down quickly this morning and temperatures do not rise again until early next week. 43 at o'hare. 42 in union. 40 in the kelp. here are the current temperatures. looking at the wind, we could see gusts up to 45 mi. per hour before the day is done. already its 40 mi. in rockford. juliet is 23. forget about the leaves, they will be in your neighbor's yard quite quickly. the wind chill will take center stage. right now it's in the mid 30's. it's going to feel more like mid-20s to the low thirties through the

afternoon. it's going to feel more like a december type of day. satellites composite shows ranging to snow. rain and snow through the day the heaviest is going to be in portions of northwest indiana. this snow will stick tonight. by 9:00 p.m. we're down to 38. vacancy the high temperature of 43. sunday we are at 47. >> i just saw marcus in his costume it took me a second to figure it out. but now i get it. yoga see it coming up. some outside, we have some construction causing delays. this easton to 90 approach in the tristate exit ramp closed until 5:00 a.m.. over by elton o'hare, all that work on the urban park ran for people heading west bound-eastbound.

already we have police approaching irving. that could be a slow pocket this morning with the ongoing construction. it will be lifted until november 10th. >>an off duty police officer is in the hospital after he was beaten and robbed. that happened in a parking garage, on the 100 block of west madison, yesterday afternoon. several people attacked the officer and then robbed him. the sun times reports between six and ten people were involved and that they stole his service weapon. the officer is in serious condition at northwestern hospital. no arrests have been made. at least two cars were shot with a pellet gun while traveling on the eisenhower expressway this week. the incidents happened wednesday databoth happened between central and 25-th avenue. no one was hurt. police made no arrests. three people were killed when a freight train hit an s-u-v in southern illinois. this happened in vandalia last night. two people in the vehicle were

killed. the third victim was killed by flying debris. two other people in the s-u-v were injured and airlifted to the hospital. investigators did not say what led to the crash. one of the f-b-i's most wanted fugitives has been caught. after almost seven weeks on the run, eric frein was captured yesterday in pennsylvania's pocono mountains. police say frein is the man who shot two state troopers -- one fatally -- outside their barracks last month. he was taken into custody in the squad car of the dead trooper. and he's being held at those same barracks. >> he was placed under arrest and handcuffed with the handcuffs of the corporal. i think that's appropriate. >> he has been stripped of his gun and his bombs and now his freedom. >>eric frein faces his first court appearance later this morning. prosecutors have already said, they plan to seek the death penalty when frein goes to trial. crews have been working through the night to install the tightropes that will be used in this weekend's death defying stunt above the chicago river. patrick elwood is live in the loop with the latest.

so high. >> he plans to climb a 15 degree angle incline from the west tower to the burnett building 50 stories above the river with a balancing pole then you'll walk between the marine the towers. that one will be blindfolded. the diameter of the wire is about in nickel. if you have ever been down here you know this may be the windiest part of to attend chicago. at this hour with the rain and fog will sue the conditions are on sunday. i spoke to nick's father a few minutes ago, this is a family affair. he is to press in the operation. as always he will be armed pins and needles as he watches his son with his life to do what he does, the jaw dropping high wire act. >> i get final look at all the equipment and the rigging and i know he will be safe and so you will have to worry about that he can focus on the performance

but >>a man who was charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder is facing even more felony charges, after he punched the judge presiding over his case. cook county sheriff's deputies used a taser to take down michael ganter yesterday afternoon, after he attacked judge geary kull inside a courtroom in maywood. the judge is o-k, but he was taken to the hospital to get checked out. alstory simon spent 15 years in prison for a double murder he didn't commit. but this morning, he's a free man. it was simon's coerced confession, in 1999, that led to the release of another suspect, anthony porter, from death row. the case ultimately led to a statewide moratorium on the death penalty. >> to identified as police officers. >> the investigation of this case has been so deeply corroded and corrupted that we can no longer maintain the legitimacy of the conviction. >> and i'm not angry. at first i was angry when i first came in.

his death 64 years old. he says he's looking for to reuniting with his family. as for anthony porter, he cannot be legally retried for the murders, that would be double jeopardy. it is likely the case may never be solved. teachers in waukegan head back to work this morning... as their 4-week long strike has finally come to an end. the teachers union overwhelmingly approved a new contract late last night. that will allow the district's nearly 17-thousand students to head back to class monday. few details have been released on the terms of the 3-year-deal. union president kathy schwarz called the deal a compromise and an end to a long, trying process. >> the race that teachers get will make it easier for them to live on its the long time coming. >> i am beyond words ecstatic. i

don't have words to describe how happy i am. yesterday i was crying. i thought nothing would be resolved and it would be another four weeks. >>the two sides still need to determine how they will make up the 21 instructional days that were missed since the strike began. the bionic arm belonging to a west suburban teenager is found and back with its owner. 16-year-old sam luther was born without most of his left arm. the prosthesis he wears is worth about 100-thousand dollars. luther and his family thought someone took it from their car while they were having lunch at a subway in pilsen. a worker at that restaurant found the arm while cleaning up and called police. pumpkins are a 33-million dollar business here in illinois. in fact, more pumpkins are grown here than in the other 49-other states combined. a motherload of those gourds are grown in morton... the pumpkin capital of the world.

against the nurse who is under the ebola quarantine. officials in maine want her to stay home. she treated the ebola patients in sierra leone, was kept in isolation in new jersey, allowed to finish her quarantine at home since she tested negative and has no other symptoms. is she and her boyfriend went on a bike ride. she said she should be able to go free because she has no symptoms. >> still waiting to hear from the state what the war to do. i hope we can continue negotiations and work this out. >> i don't want her within 3 ft. of anybody. going to use the

after almost seven weeks on the run, eric frein was captured yesterday in the pocono mountains. police say frein is the man who shot two troopers outside their barracks last month. he was taken into custody in the squad car -- and the handcuffs -- of the dead trooper. and he's being held at those same barracks. alstory simon is a free man, after spending 15 years in prison for a double murder he didn't commit. a cook county judge dropped all charges against simon in the 1982 killings of jerry hillard and marilyn green in washington park. simon says he's looking forward to reuniting with his family. teachers in waukegan head back to work this morning... as their 4-week long strike has finally come to an end. the teachers union overwhelmingly approved a new contract late last night. that will allow the district's nearly 17-thousand students to head back to class monday. a judge says the bleachers at crystal lake south high school must come down december first. school officials were seeking more time as they appeal a ruling that said they disobeyed zoning laws. but a mc-henry county judge said the bleachers need to come down regardless of that.

president obama's own defense secretary is criticizing his boss' military strategy in syria. the new york times says hagel sent a memo to obama's national security adviser, warning that obama's insistence on slowing down "isis," before addressing syria's hostile regime, has sowed confusion about america's intentions in the region. the syrian border town of kobani is now getting some new defenders -- kurdish peshmerga fighters from iraq, with heavy weapons and artillery. an israeli newspaper is being roundly criticized for a political cartoon that uses 9- 11 images to characterize the current state of u.s.-israeli relations. the cartoon depicts prime minister benjamim netanyahu flying a plane into a building with an american flag on top. the cartoonist says it's his way of blaming *netanyahu for his country's worsening relations with america. the cartoonist later admitted, using 9-11 imagery may have been a bit insensitive. the chicago police force is

well below full strength despite efforts to hire more officers. that's what police superintendent garry mc-carthy told the city council yesterday. he says there are plans to hire 200 more officers in the next few months. but the department has 587- vacancies. the city is on pace to spend 95-million dollars on police overtime this year. budget officials say overtime is cheaper than hiring more officers with full time benefits. as an accused serial killer awaits his first trial, the family of one of the victims is criticizing the police for failing to prevent her murder. teaira batey was found dead last week in an abandoned home in gary. darren -vann-is believed to be the man who killed her. batey's family says it filed a missing-person report, way back in january... but the police missed several opportunities to find batey -- or her body. and as a result, they missed a chance to catch vann before he could kill again. >> she was calling for help but nobody altar. police did nothing. and now she is dead. >> there is a possibility he had

her phone. if the phone was active and on, it was simple for them to find the phone. >> batey's name has been set up at u.s. bank. donations will help support her son. batey's memorial service swill be held tomorrow at cornerstone baptist church in gary. a u-s district judge has gotten a group of investors off the back of paramount pictures. the judge tossed a case brought by investors of the movie "mean a new breakout heading toward a cemetery in hawaii. scientists worry about the breakout of lava. they're widening the lava flow area. faugturn give peoplee to evacuate the none of time to see those structures. >> and we're going to be sharing
