made it. it would be a different story obviously if he had not. we are glad for that. the family is definitely happy. and as you mentioned, he did it while sitting to the guinness book world records. he did it faster than he had planned as well. the first walk from of the marina city west tower to the leo burnett building 19 degree angle over the chicago river. that ankle was higher than the 15 degree angle originally publicized. he did that in about six minutes and 51 seconds. then he took an elevator down across the street back up to the tower for a blindfolded walk across to the east tower. that was up more than 500 ft.. that what was done in 1 minute 7 seconds. tens of thousands of people were on the ground and in the office

buildings nervously watching because despite the fact he was so high up in the air and the wind whipping around, he had no net and the safety harness. >> people look at that wire and say they did not have my hat on backwards and my glasses on didn't know was there all day listening to them. they said it was impossible but approved it is possible. that's my life is about. >> he also said his life is about inspiring people. he said he will take a few days off and it's back to train for another dangerous feat, a seven person pyramid across the tightrope in which in the past two of his in the members have died and a third was paralyzed. he also wants to recreate the infamous walk by his great-grandfather in which he crossed that the tallulah gorge. that something to check out. but for now, we are breathing a deep sigh of

relief that he made it here. we will speak to him later in the morning. i hope you'll tune in. for now we're live at marina city. >> if you're taking the "l" this morning... you may get stopped to have your bag checked. starting this morning...mobile screening teams will be set up at random c-t-a train stations outside the turnstiles. police will swab bags for explosives. if passengers decline to be screened... they won't get through the gate. los angeles, boston, washington d-c and new jersey have similar security measures in place. a terminally ill woman who decided she would die on her own terms, has taken her life. brittany maynard was diagnosed with brain cancer on new year's day. this spring, she was given six months to live. that's when she and her family decided to move from california to oregon, where the state has a "death with dignity" act. it allows terminal patients to die with the help of a doctor. maynard took lethal medication

that was prescribed to her, and died late saturday. she was 29. authorities are investigating two double murders in south suburban ford heights. 19-year-old cyrus vance and 17- year-old ephram jones were found dead inside of a van in the 15-hundred block of park lane early sunday morning. just a few blocks away... 38- year-old mchezo mcmillian and 21-year-old ashley hudson were found dead inside a home in the 14-hundred block of regent late friday afternoon. >> this sunday that has been going on. which those people who did it would turn it in. >> we're working the case. we have a lot of different leads. to >>authorities suspect both crimes are gang and drug related. >>a man has been released without charges after being questioned in connection with the beating of an off-duty chicago police sergeant. brian williams turned himself into police on saturday. he was attending a wedding at city hall on thursday, when he and some friends came across the sergeant in a parking garage. he claims the sergeant used a racial slur, which angered his

friend ... who then attacked the sergeant. williams says he never identified himself as an officer. the sergeant suffered a concussion and facial fractures. three others are being questioned in the case. a woman is charged with attacking a police officer who was arresting someone else. tasha brown is being held on bond for obstructing a police officer in the austin neighborhood saturday night. prosecutors say she yelled at the officer, then kneed him in the groin twice during her arrest. prosecutors say brown was yelling profanities at the officer as he was arresting michael simmons for drug possession. the officer says simmons had a bag of drugs with him, inside a car. a million dollars bond for a man accused of shooting another man in the back after friday prayers near a mosque in bridgeview. rame joudeh reportedly confronted the victim outside the mosque, sprayed a chemical into his face, then shot him. the man suffered a wound to the back, but is recovering. police say the two know each other, and it was not a random attack.

a south side church is trying to figure out what to do after friday's high winds caused some expensive damage. this was at the community christian church where congressman bobby rush serves as pastor. he says three of the 85-year old stained glass windows were blown out. the highest winds in chicago last friday approached 70-miles an hour. it whipped up debris...and that's how they think those windows broke. congressman rush is asking for help to repair the damage. election day is tomorrow and both candidates in the governor's race went looking for voters at church. both governor quinn and bruce rauner spent sunday morning at african american churches. rauner went to four churches and told congregations how his financial success allowed him to give back to their schools and communities. quinn quoted scripture as he pushed for higher wages. >> make sure the people who work hard who are doing the right thing get paid a decent wage. >> i will increase the minimum

wage but i will also help small business some families are not just stuck with minimum wage hoping to get there or stay at it but can rise through it. >>quinn says he would raise the minimum wage to ten dollars an hour by new year's day, if re- elected. but rauner says quinn couldn't even do that when he had a democrat controlled house and senate. the cubs will introduce joe maddon as the team's new manager today. maddon led the tampa bay rays to four playoff appearances in the past nine seasons. that was done with a lower player payroll than what the cubs had those years. the cubs will look to maddon to develop the franchise's young players and to attract free agents. the cubs hired maddon after they fired rick renteria who only spent one season as manager. we've told you about some the interesting foods found in japan. you'll remember the black cheeseburgers, green wasabi kit-kats, and now... pink pepsi. check it out... protests and riots followed for days after a ferguson police officer shot and killed 18 year old michael brown. the media reported from the ground, but there were no news helicopters after police ordered a no-fly zone. they say that was to protect aircraft from gunfire from the ground. but the a-p obtained recorded conversations saying that they didn't want the media up there. the f-a-a says no media outlets challenged that. police officials still say this was for safety. merger plans for catholic parishes in new york. cardinal timothy dolan announced yesterday that nearly a third of the parishes in the new york archdiocese will merge. that's 112 out of the diocese's 368 churches. the decision came after a year- long review. the reorganization will take effect in august. it's unclear what will be done with the unused churches and buildings. a burglar in colorado quickly realized he chose the wrong house to rob. that's because it belongs to a sheriff's deputy, who was home at the time.

the robber ran when he saw the officer. but, the deputy chased him down and held him at gunpoint until backup arrived and arrested the one arizona woman pulled a trick on her self this halloween. while passing out candy -- she accidently gave one trick - or - treater her wedding ring. the woman says she placed her wedding ring in a candy jar while helping her daughters carve pumpkins. then forgot to get her ring when she filled the bowl with candy. she was barely 20 years old when she married her husband 10 years ago and says the ring doesn't have a lot of monetary value. they met in looks like a kid the ring. >> if you were to try to pawn that or sell it, you could probably get about $50. it was my wedding ring. it can replace the but it's not the same. i'm really hoping somebody has it and doesn't know what to do with it. >> is that a hand to her husband

one world trade center replaces the original world trade center towers thirteen years after they were destroyed in the september eleventh terrorist attacks. construction on the 17-hundred foot tower was completed earlier this year. just call this new spy the 'james bond' of penguins. a remote control rover was disguised as a baby penguin to kahane help biologists study shy emperor penguins. scientists tried about 5 different versions of the bird until they found the right one. it's covered in gray fur, with black arms, a black beak and a black-and-white painted face. he looks so convincing that penguins actually talk to it, thinking it's a potential mate. researchers want to use the rover to study the animals health, without scaring them with human interaction. >> when you got wheels like that. >> if you have to put some limits on those they look weird. >> get weird.

no need to cut away. he defied his critics by first walking from the marina city west tower to the burnett building at a 19 degree angle over the chicago river. he did the portion of the walk in six minutes and 51 seconds. the other angle was a little higher than initially planned. he then hop on an elevator went across the street back to the top of the west tower for the second record breaking feet which was walking blindfolded from the west tower to the east tower. he did that walk in 1 minute 17 seconds. he performed both walks without a safety harness, without a net,

williams says he never identified himself as an officer. three others are being questioned in the case. police are issuing an alert to businesses after a string of burglaries on the west side. authorities say the burglars break in the buildings by cutting a hole in the roof. one incident happened october 17-th at a business in the 300 block of north central avenue. three days later, the burglars struck again in the 700 block of north cicero avenue. challenger bruce rauner will wrap up their campaigns today. they spent yesterday trying to attract undecided voters at african american churches. polls show quinn has their support, but rauner may need them in order to win. some polls show tomorrow could be a good day for the republican party in federal races. polls are giving republicans the edge, or at least a boost, in four senate races. the g-o-p needs to pick up six seats to win a senate majority. some of those seats are held by democrats who have been trying to distance themselves from president obama and his falling approval ratings. president obama had to swap

planes after the aircraft ran into some mechanical problems. the president and his entourage were switching to a different plane for his return trip to washington on last night because of a minor problem with the flap. president obama traveled to pennsylvania for a campaign event ahead of tuesday's midterm elections. investigators are piecing together how the virgin galactic spacecraft could have broken up on friday... killing the pilot. n-t-s-b investigators say the key may lie in the feathering process. that's when the tail boom... or feathers of the plane fold up to increase drag. the feathers are supposed to be unlocked when the spacecraft has reached 1-point-4 times the speed of sound. but investigators said the pilots unlocked the feathers earlier... at just over mach-1- point-zero. >> the procedure is to move the fetters where the entire body rotates in order to create more drag as it reenters the hemisphere. >>the n-t-s-b says despite the information, they haven't reached a conclusion on the cause of the crash. a full investigation could take as much as a year.

right now there's only one person being treated for ebola in the u-s.. that could change today, in north carolaina. a traveler from liberia is in isolation at duke university hospital. that person had no symptoms when he arrived on friday, but now he has a fever and other symptoms. tests should come back today to reveal if he has the virus. an ebola patient is now being treated in france. the patient contracted the virus while working for the united nations in sierra leone. he is now in isolation at an army teaching hospital near paris. the world health organization requested france to take the patient, but it isn't known if the person is french. rain is reducing the smoke coming from a lava flow that's now stalled in a small town in hawaii. the moisture is also helping to keep fires from spreading. the lava is less than 5-hundred feet from the main road in and out of pahoa, on the big island. the town of about one-thousand residents has been on alert for weeks. 50 households were told to be ready to leave, if the lava starts flowing again.

a boater from australia tossed logic aside when he saw a dead whale in the water. this whale carcass was floating by when a man jumped out of his boat. he swam to the whale, climbed up its exposed guts, and stood on top. that's when he realized there were several white sharks swimming around, taking bites out of the whale. >> it was the heat of the moment. when my friend said to be funny. my mom thinks i'm an idiot. that is not too proud either. >> bad idea man. the swimmer eventually got back in his boat. australian authorities say he didn't do anything illegal since the whale was dead and nothing was removed from it. >> i don't care about you guys but i like his hair. that was cool air. i am always looking. >> he may be single. take a midnight swing with that guy. 46 degrees right now. 39 in aurora.
