the election away from a rauner win. some problems are being reported at polling sites in chicago. stemming from mysterious robocalls sent out to election judges. wgn's julian crews is live the board of elections with details. never a dull moment in chicago politics. election officials calling unprecedented what they described as militia's role calls that went out and the lead up to election day. purposely designed to disrupt the election process. there are problems being reported across the city. no area has been untouched by this. in the city a number of locations in precincts reporting tactical problems and manpower issues. much of it having to do with the mysterious rebel calls. >> this is the first time we have seen

attempts to disrupt an election through our election judges. >> the lincoln belmont library in like the one of dozens of precincts with reported problems. election board officials say they are gathering information on all this that will be turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agents say once the election is over. no word on who could be responsible for the unusual calls that according to the election board misled well over 200 elections chicago judges. reportedly telling them not to show up because they lacked prope training and certification to perform their duties. the end result for many voters was frustration across the city with various reports of the election judges not showing up and precinct not opening up on time. that has angered many voters who are sounding off. >> don't you expect this? you expect anything when it comes time to be elections. nothing

is underhanded or low enough to get the vote. you all know that. >> i think it is dirty politics and it is unfair. i hope whoever is involved gets caught. >> the garden variety problems that we see in any election. chicago one of the biggest election operations in the entire country with 2000 + precincts'. a lot of people involved in this. their issues such as ballots jamming up in machines. one voter i talked to was very 20cit in the 48th ward. he says his ballot that chewed up. election judges assured him that his ballot will be counted. probably will not happen until 7:00 p.m.. a lot of concern on the part of this one voter concerned that his ballot will not be counted. >> an indication of the stakes in this

decision 20-14. and tune into to w- g-n beginning at 7 tonight for our special live coverage and analis a family is demanding answers after police shot a man to death at highland park hospital. 27-year-old christopher anderson and his nine-year- old daughter were brought to the hospital after they were involved in a car accident sunday night. several hours later. a hospital employee call 9. saying anderson was being aggressive. police say anderson had a gun and refused to drop it. that's when officers opened fire. killing anderson. his fami says anderson did not own relatives of two men strangled in joliet last year are expected to take the stand today duri a sentencing hearing for a woman convicted of their deaths. the mothers of terrance rankins and eric glover will talk about their sons and how the killings have affected them. four people were charged with their murders. 20-year-old bethany mckee and 26-year- old joshua minor were both convicted in the case. adamde itial and alisa massaro pleaded guilty to lesser charges. prosecutors say the four lured rankins and glover to massaro's home. miner and and

landerman then strangled and robbed them. chicago police hope the release of surveillance photos will help track down two sexual assault suspects. these photos were taken by surveillance cameras at about 4 a-m last friday. the men you see in the pictures grabbed two women. hit them and sexually assaulted them. the woman were attacked as they were walking to their car near lake and halsted.. in the west town neighborhood. if you have any information. call area central detectives at the number on your the bolingbrook teenager accused ofo join "isis" will stay in jail a little longer. federal prosecutors say mohammed khan poses a flight risk and is a danger to the community. they also revealed that khan tried to bring his two younger siblings with him to syria. the three were stopped at o'hare last month before they could board a flight. his siblings are not charged. khan's attorney calls the government's case "hopelessly weak." a teenage boy is charged with setting a raging fire at his own house in prospect heights with several family members in. his father, mother, and three children were able to escape.

his parents initially thought he was trapped in the home but rescuers never found him. police eventually tracked him down about a mile away. he's charged as a juvenile with three counts of aggravated arson. police in evanston are warning community members of a recent increase in counterfeicu police has received several reports of counterfeit money circulating to local businesses. information has been sent out to residents about what they can do to prevent counterfeiting. anyone believed to have received counterfeit money should contact evanston police. it will cost a few hundred thousand dollars to repair the lakefront trail after friday's high winds. high waves ate up parts of the lake shore bike path, leaving behind massive chunks of asphalt. crews started cleaning it up yesterday. some of the hardest hit portions of the path were closed. the chicago park district says it plan to lay new asphalt today in the most damaged spo everything should be back to normal by early next week. if you were looking up last night, you might have seen something likehi that white streak is a meteor.

stephen sobel shot this video with his phone at 6:25 p-m in logan square near kedzie and armitage. he says it was unlike anything he'd seen before. there were similiar reports from witnesses in georgia, kentucky, north carolina, and pennsylvania. the american meteor society says about 10 to 15 meteorites fall to earth every day but sightings are rare because they usually fall over the ocean or during the day. coming up next police in pennsylvania are offering a reward in a kidnapping on a public street and it was caught on camera. also ahead, the investigation in the crash of the virgin galactic spacecraft. and, they say it's much too lenient prosecutors appeal or prosecutors appeal or

the body of a six- year-old boy in oregon has been recovered, after his mother confessed to tossing him over a bridge. 34 year old jillian mccabe is charged with aggravated murder and first- degree manslaughter. two boats and a helicopter searched the area around the bridge for hours before spotting the body last night. the water is more than 100 feet below the bridge. so the chances of survival were "minimal."

an atm card was used this morning by a male that a stand- alone bank and aberdeen in maryland. costa police have released surveillance video salvi may find it disturbing. hoping someone will recognize the man and attract the 22 year-old down the street and forced her into the car. while struggling to get free she broke out of the car's rear windows. police found her phone and glasses on the street. the family says she is a nurse who was only a few blocks from home when this happened. a reward increases to 15-thousand dollars for information about the abduction of a a freak accidt a construction site in new jersey. costs a man his life. a one-pound tape measure fell 50 stories off a high- rise building. hitting a man on the ground and killing him. the victim was delivering drywall at the time, and had left his hard hat in his truck. the tape measure

came off a construction worker's belt. an investigation is underway. the suspect in a hit and run incident that killed three trick-or-treaters on halloween was driving on a suspended license. southern california police arrested jaquinn ramone bell sunday after tracking him down at a motel. bell is accused of striking and killing three 13-year-old girls with his s-u- v as the girls were crossing a street in santa ana friday night. police say bell had his two children with him at the time. but he sped off and left his car in a parking lot. the california department of motor ceeicles says bell's end for excessive alcohol on october 4th. nearly three years after the costa concordia cruise ship ran aground off the coast of italy. the remains of the final victim have been recovered. the body of russel rebello was found in one of the ship's cabins. 32 people died in the "costa concordia" disaster in january of 20-12. earlier this year the ship was moved to a dry dock. the former navy seal who spoke about the mission that caught osama bin laden is under investigation.

brian todd has the story. >> he says he was right behind the navy seal who took the first shot at osama bin laden. of his lawyer tells us that he is the subject of a criminal investigation and was recently questioned for 10 hours. government officials briefed on the matter say the pentagon and justice department are looking into whether he revealed classified information. since publishing the best- selling book no easy day about the bin laden raid. >> the man who wrote the book was asked whether he ever disclosed secret information >> that is absolutely not what i intended to do. these are my brothers the other served beside for years. a lot of them continue to serve. >> his lawyer says they are not aware of any specific allegations that sensitive information was leaked. no criminal

would not ask other people to take a flight. >>branson said it is too soon to say how long the first tourist flight might be delayed by the accident. he'd been hoping to start flying passengers as soon as next year. prosecutors in the oscar pistorius case. appealed today what they call a "shockingly light" and inappropriate sentence. they are hoping to convict him of a more serious charge or make him serve more time in prison. last month, pistorius was sentenced to five years behind bars for being negligent when he shot and killed his girlfriend on valentine's day in noiset rte pss ix nt more than 200 former n-f-l players and their families have chosen not to accept the league's settlement of a concussion lawsuit. 34 thousand people were invited to share in a settlement pool of more than three quarters of a billion dollars. minus attorney fees. but 200 people say, they'll fare better if they pursue their own individual lawsuits. it'll be tougher for them because they'll have to prove that any brain damage was

on news that the price of oil has slid to a three-year low. the dow down 15 points. >>ferrari has agreed to pay a three-and- a-half million dollar fine to u-s regulators, for failing to report three fatal crashes in its vehicles. the national highway safety administration says the auto company should have reported the crashes. all auto manufacturers are required to report incidents in which a defect is alleged to have caused a fatal crash. court papers did not reveal the nature of the incidents or when they happened. ferrari says it's already started implementing new procedues to make sure there is full compliance in the future. the justice department is conducting a criminal investigation into j-p morgan chase's. foreign-exchange trading activities and controls the bank also increased its potential legal costs by one-point- three billion dollars to a total of five-point-nine billion. the company says it's cooperating with the probes. financial regulators are also looking into u-b-s,

deutsche bank, barclays and the royal bank of scotland. sprint announced it's laying off two thousand employees after another quarter of massive losses. the wireless carrier reported a 765-million dollar loss for the second quarter and it lost 272- thousand subscribers in the third quarter. sprint has been undergoing a big turnaround of its network that has driven away a number of customers. the layoffs are expected to cut labor costs by 400- million dollars. verizon and a-t-and- t are quietly tracking cellular customers with technology that privacy advocates say could be illegal. they're using "super-cookies" to track internet activity which helps advertisers target customer according to washington officials say they have taken steps to alert customers and allow them to opt- out. but critics worry the tracking programs may violate customer privacy and could be breaking federal wire-tapping laws.

there's a new push to unionize employees of chicago's bike- about 75 people in chicago work for "divvy." just over half of them petitioned the government, asking that they be represented by transport workers union. most "divvy" employees are part- time. among other things, they want more predictable work schedules, and better safety precautions the pl

the mayor's plan to expand a chicago public schools ooram isg mixed review praise for its goals and criticism for how the program would be paid for. mayor emanuel has proposed borrowing the money through social impact bonds. the money could pay investors a return of about 6- point-3 percent. roughly doubling their 17-million- dollar investment over the next 18 years. emanuel wants to enroll 26-hundred more children into a pre-school program over the next 4 years. the university of illinois at urbana- champaign is pushing for its own medical it would focus on engineering and technology. its mission would be to develop physician- scientists. who could work in clinical practice. and create new medical equipment and innovations. tuition would be 45- thours a orstate an 60- thousand for out-of- staters. the first class of 25 students would start in 2017, and would eventually grow to 50 new students a year and 75 faculty and staff members.
