public are keeping a close eye on the process. downstairs on the pedway level. there tabulating the mail in dallas. they're being examined. research and voter information making sure each ballot. tens of thousands of provisional ballots. more significant mail in votes coming in today and tomorrow. on the county and city side. the election judges have two weeks to complete the tabulas. the chicago board of election spokespeople estimating there are close to 10,000 absentee votes to still be counted. it is not clear at this hour how many provisional ballots remain to be counted. there are other factors that come into play. >> we have a few precincts that will be at the warehouse this afternoon. we always have precinct where the cartridges fail or they could not transmit. we will break the seals on the ballots from

the handful of precinct that could not report last night. we will run the baluster the scanner and develop a new cartridge so that we can get the results from those precincts. >> there is the drama of the pilot program allowing voters for the first time in illinois history to register and cast a provisional ballots on election day. this w t scene close to midnight. one of the city's fire especially dedicated voting sites for last- minute voters. we're told the last one was cast after three of the morning. long lines at 69 west washington as well. a last-minute surge in voter standing in line for up to 3.5 hours to cast their ballot. the back story to all of this. those mysterious rowboat calls that election officials blame for disrupting the election process in chicago. more than 2000 election judge is not showing up as a result of misinformation.

election officials tell me that they have yet to file a formal complaint with the state's attorney. of course it is very busy right now. trying to tabulate these ballots. i have an election to run and complete. they're gathering the information. >> another long night tonight. democrat dick durbin is heading back to capitol hill to serve a fourth term. he defeated the republican senator. he says he has no intention of running for the seat again. he knows there's a lot of pressure to get things done in washington. >> is the end of a hard-fought campaign across the state against some of the toughest political winds i have ever faced.
