>>a school in the southwest suburbs is closed for the day because dozens of kids are home sick with the flu. w-g-n's julian crews is live in lyons with the latest >> the school district working to contain the flu in the robinson school. along with the staffers. no. have come down with what appears to be the flu. close to their with 80 students and teachers coming down with what appears to be influenza. star >> did seeing four- five kids at a time reporting to the nurse's office yesterday with like symptoms. a steady stream of parents went to the school offices all day yesterday bringing kids home to the school district superintendent activating her special services team contacting the county health department for support. >> because we have so many students that were sick and parents calling in

to say that the child was home with the flu we knew it was time to call the health department and see if we could in some place from them. >> get some > custodial staff and cleanup teams began a meticulous sanitizing of the robinson school. their work through the day today to clean the school so these students can return tomorrow. parents are being extra vigilant. >> we should really just to make sure that we train our kids on how to wash their hands thoroughly. i tell my daughters if you wash them for 30 seconds, watched them longer now. >> i am glad they did,. it and made aware to people.

superintendent of the district saying there's no evidence that the flu has spread to these other schools. >> they're just asking parents to be vigilant and if your child does start to show symptoms, they're asking parents to respond and definitely keep your child at home. school and >> administrators are asking to make sure your child the symptom free for least 24 hours before returning to school >> new details are being released today by the chicago archdiocese about sexual abuse carried out by 36-priests. wgn's tonya franciso has details from the archdiocese headquarters. >> the names of 65 priests was substantiated claims of abuse are listed on the web site. in

" a taxi flips over during an accident caused by a hit and run driver on lakeshore drive. it happened just before midnight near the oak street curve. police say a grey or silver chevy tahoe rammed a northbound taxi, flipping it onto its roof. the tahoe then hit a jeep, sending it into the concrete road barrier. three of the

injured were in serious or critical condition, but none of their injuries are considered life threatening. the driver of the tahoe took off. governor pat quinn official concedes to bruce rauner. quinn refused to concede on election night. he said he wouldn't "throw in the towel" until all the votes were counted. but as more votes were counted yesterday, quinn fell further behind. he now says he's focused on raising the minimum wage before he leaves office. rauner released a statement, thanking quinn for his years of service and his commitment to a smooth transition. two days after the election. the race for illinois treasurer is still undecided. republican tom cross leads democrat michael frerichs by about 85-hundred votes. a spokesman for cross says he feels confident the lead will hold. but frerichs says he won't concede until all the votes are counted. chicago area veterans facing tough times have a new food pantry to chose from. the greater chicago food depository has set up a pantry at the hines v-a hospital in maywood. the pantry is expected to serve

about 150 veterans a week. it'll be managed by ameri-core members and staffed by volunteers. it's the second v-a food pantry in the area. the other is at the jesse brown v-a medical center on the west side. mayor rahm emanuel is proposing policy changes designed to speed animal adoptions and increase animal identification. the mayor introduced an ordinance that would declare impounded animals to be property of the city after three days. paving the way for earlier adoption. the plan would save taxpayers the cost of sheltering 12- thousand stray animals each year. the jackie robinson west little league team will be at the white house today. president obama invited the team during a recent trip to chicago. the team won the u-s championship at the little league world series, before they lost to south korea. the team was actually invited to play a rematch, in south korea, but a date is not set yet. >>it's been a tradition for over a century. chicago's official christmas tree, displayed throughout the holidays downtown. it's been a tradition for over a century.. chicago's

out of a hospital and back home with her family. grab by a man and forced into the car sunday night just blocks from her home. from the car last and maryland. in the back seat and suspects were arrested. the track bonds via gps. had been attacked by the dealership where he bought his car because he had bad credit. police say they do not think the new barnes. the family is just relieved to have her back home. >> crying and asking for me. hopefully he will be in jail for the rest of his life. that is the only thing he deserves. he is being held on outstanding warrant for capital murder and other crimes.

they plan to bring federal charges against him. >> >>they sang about having "dirty deeds done dirty cheap." now the drummer for legendary rock band ac/dc has been charged in a murder for hire plot. phil rudd was arrested yesterday in new zealand. the 60-year old appeared in court and was released on bail. police didn't name the intended victims or how they're connected to rudd. the murders were not carried out. if convicted rudd could be sentenced to 10-years in jail. the band is slated to have a new album out next month. a man suspected of murdering his girlfriend in washington state, has been captured, in oregon. police in portland say david kalac strangled his girlfriend amber coplin then posted pictures of her corpse online. neighbors say they found a written confession by kalac. investigators were able to track him to portland, where he was cornered and captured after a high-speed chase. police say kalac has admitted to the murder. a former baltimore ravens cheerleader is now charged with having sex with a minor. molly shattuck is free on bail after she turned herself in to police in delaware yesterday. she pleaded not guilty to third degree rape and serving alcohol to a

minor. police say shattuck gave a 15 year old boy alcohol and had sex with him, at her vacation home labor day weekend. the baltimore sun reports the boy is her son's classmate. shattuck was 38 when she became the oldest n-f-l cheerleader in 20- 05. she's now 47 and getting divorced. ray rice and his wife are in new york this morning to testify in the former raven's appeal hearing. rice is battling his indefinite suspension from the n-f-l. commissioner roger goodell testified at yesterday's hearing in new york. details were not released, but goodell said the video that shows rice hitting his wife in a hotel elevator, was why his suspension was increased from two games to indefinite. rice argues that the league violated his rights under the league's collective bargaining agreement. by punishing him twice for the same incident. amanda knox has a new job. she's a theater critic for a newspaper in seattle. her initial work was published under a pseudonym, but now she uses her real name. knox was convicted

in italy twice for the murder of her british roommate. she served four years in prison for her first conviction, before it was overturned. the second conviction came during the retrial earlier this year, while knox was in the u-s. she was sentenced to more than 28-years in prison, but knox is refusing to go back. more than a dozen members of congress were defeated tuesday night but most will continue receiving checks, at the taxpayers' expense. members of congress are eligible for a pension after just five years in office. for senators, that means they qualify after a single six- year term. members of congress are guaranteed to be paid a certain sum for as long as they live.. and their benefits increase with the cost of living. most can begin drawing full payments at the age of 62. >>pope francis is raising the idea of making it easier and possibly even free for catholics to obtain marriage annulments. it's a major issue in the church because catholics who divorce and remarry without seeking an annulment are not allowed to receive communion. the pope said he dismissed a church official for selling annulments for thousands of dollars. which he called a "public scandal." calls for the process to be streamlined also

time for sports. derrick rose said he was not a hundred- percent last night, but after missing two games with sprained ankles. he felt the bulls needed this win. rose facing fellow simeon- alum jabari parker in milwaukee. bulls down seven in the second. rose drives and dishes to pau gasol for two of his 22 points while rose scored 13 in 31 minutes. the bulls still trailed at halftime, but opened the half on a 13- to- two run. taj gibson benefits from the jimmy butler steal here. all five starter scored in double figures. the bulls win 95-86 to remain perfect on the road. the bears got several players back during practice at halas hall.

decided not to run for mayor. cook county commissioner. union delegates made the decision yesterday. about 8000 illinois residents of beginning to use medical marijuana. the department of public health says 230 patients have been approved so far. marijuana has been legalized to treat 37 specific illnesses. still reviewing applications for growers and retailers. >>there's been a breakthrough in treating a deadly lung disease. the f-d-a has approved two new drugs to help pulmonary fibrosis patients double their life expectancy. scar tissue builds in the lungs until patients can no longer breathe. people live about five years, after symptoms surface. but now, the drugs pirfenidone and nintedanib are helping slow the progression of the disease down.

both drugs are expensive. a one- year supply costs more than 90- thousand dollars. too many baths and too little moisturizer for babies may be contributing to an increase in cases of eczema. studies show daily baths for infants can disrupt the skin's ability to keep moisture in and allergens and germs out. researchers say two or three baths a week are plenty for babies and should be followed by a good skin cream or lotion. eczema causes patches of dry, itchy, inflamed skin and frequently develops in early childhood. just about everyone agrees texting and driving is a very bad idea. but a majority of us do it anyway. 98 percent of drivers in a survey published by the associated press agree texting behind the wheel is dangerous. yet. three quarters admit to doing it. two thirds say they only read texts while stopped at a traffic light. and more than a quarter say they send or read messages while in motion. >>not good. another college student got a shot at glory on the basketball court.. he had to make a layup, a free throw, a three pointer, and a half court shot in 30-seconds.
