>> as you referred to, police say this is all domestic in nature. the 49 year-old officer continues to fight for her life here at the hospital. her daughter was shot as well but wounds are not considered to be life-threatening. sources say the daughter's boyfriend was taken into custody several hours later after he fled the scene with the young child of the couple. the shooting happened on the 2200 block east 68. just before 10:00 p.m.. that is the south shore neighborhood. the officer who works in organized- crime was with her daughter and grandchild when they were confronted by the child's father. he reportedly opened fire on the woman hitting the officer several times in the face and the neck. the daughter was also struck in the side. the superintendent says the 49 year- old officer is well-respected and highly decorated. >> the officer is 49 years old.

a female, 24 year veteran of the department. received numerous awards including 14-24 awards. >> the suspect took off with the child. he was found after midnight on west division st.. the child was not harmed. no word on a motive as they try to piece together the moments before those bullets were fired. other officers remain here on watch in support of their comrade. back to you. >> we expect to learn more today about a fire that swept through a house of worship in suburban island lake. the two-alarm fire gutted the inside of the guru nanak sikh mission of america, on state road. it was brought under control around midnight. no one was injured. family of companies operated in the building. the fire had migrated from floor to floor. a

very old structure. at one point we decided to go into a defensive operation and just utilizing companies outside. >> it's not burning. i feel like i am burning inside. >>opened in 19-97, the temple was cited three years ago for safety violations, including exposed wiring and locked fire exit doors. fire investigators will begin digging through the debris this morning to find out more details on what caused the fire that ripped through a garage belonging to the turano bakery in the near west suburbs. yesterday afternoon's three- alarm fire left four people injured and engulfed bread delivery trucks in flames. it happened on the 65-hundred block of west roosevelt road in oak park. fire officials believe the fire started while workers were changing a propane tank in one of the trucks. fire officials say the garage

was destroyed... and at least one house was damaged when flying bricks cracked some windows. someone tried to poison a dog in schaumburg. an 11-year-old miniature schnauzer ate some tainted dog treats that had been placed in his backyard on stevens drive. it appears, someone stuffed rat poison pellets inside some snausages, and left them in the yard. a veterinarian says the poison can tear up a dog's insides. >> everything from lungs and liver, skin, usually all internal. usually it's belongs and the liver and spleen. >>the dog's owner admits, the pooch *barks a lot... and someone angry over the barking may have intentionally tried to kill the dog. it appears to be an isolated incident. but as the dog is being treated, other pet owners in schaumburg are being warned to be on the lookout for tainted dog snacks. nine maltese dogs are beginning to get the care they need... at paws chicago. the dogs... 5 girls and 4 boys... were brought in monday

night after a woman suspected to be a *backyard breeder surrendered them to animal control. all were filthy and uncared for... but paws is cleaning them up and getting them ready for holiday adoptions. we have more info at *wgn t-v dot-com*. taking a look at the *other top stories this morning. police are looking for the man who sexually assaulted a woman in the douglas park neighborhood, at gunpoint. police say the victim stopped to ask a man for directions... he told her to go through the park, followed her... then grabbed her. the victim says he put a weapon against her head, then attacked her. a 5th teen has been arrested in the alleged sexting and cyberbullying of a female high school student in gurnee. the teen is a 14-year-old boy from carmel catholic high school in mundelein. also arrested... a girl from grayslake central high school and 3 boys from warren township high school. all five teens are under their parent's supervision. lake county prosecutors say a deadly police shooting at highland park hospital was justified. the hospital says christopher anderson was being treated after a car accident, when he pulled out a gun. the police say officers shot anderson nine times after he

refused to put it down. his funeral is today. the officers are back on duty after prosecutors found their actions 'reasonable and appropriate." president obama and his chinese counterpart say they've agreed to new greenhouse gas limits. at the close of the a-pec trade summit in beijing, obama and chinese leader -xi jinping- promised to work to cut pollution. the deal gives the united states 11 years to reduce carbon emissions by one-fourth... and gives china *18 years to level off the growth of *its emissions. >> i commend he and his team and the chinese government for the commitment they are making too slow, pecan and then reversing the course of their china emissions. >>obama said washington and beijing also agreed to work together on issues like improving cybersecurity, and de-nuclearizing north korea. chicago honored military veterans with a ceremony at soldier field. dignitaries turned out in force

killed 17 horses and a show dog. it happened at smithfield estates in edwardsburg... just northeast of south bend. the massive barn -- bigger than a football field -- was completely gutted. a caretaker in a second-floor apartment tried unsuccessfully to rescue some of the animals. all that remains of the building are the support beams.

the family of ebola victim thomas duncan reached a resolution with the hospital where he died. details of that resolution will be announced later this morning. duncan died from ebola at texas health presbyterian hospital. he had gone their before, complaining of symptoms, but he was sent home with antibiotics. the hospital says only some workers knew he flew in from liberia. duncan returned to the hospital five days later. he died just over a week later. >> dr. spencer is ebola frites and new york city is ebola free. >>the last ebola patient in the united states is cured. doctor craig spencer was released from a hospital in new york yesterday. spencer contracted the virus while treating patients in guinea. he roamed around new york for five days before he showed symptoms. no one else got sick. take a look at this video from a kitchen in albany, georgia. take a look at this video. he crawls around on his belly to avoid motion detectors. what he doesn't know is that the store is rigged with night-vision cameras. so he's seen... and he looks like a ghost.

the former navy seal who says he killed osama bin laden, told his story on camera for the first time. in an interview with fox news, robert o'neill says he convinced his team leader to let him go inside bin laden's compound in pakistan, instead of overseeing *exterior security. the change allowed o'neill to confront bin laden, face to face, and put a bullet through his head. >> if it was light enough i was definitely the last person he saw. >>o'neill says, to this day, he struggles with whether killing bin laden was the best thing he ever did, or the worst. other seals argue that *several team members fired shots at bin laden, and o'neill is wrong to claim that he fired the fatal shot. missouri officials are preparing for the worst as they await a grand jury ruling in the michael brown shooting. the grand jury is still hearing testimony in the case. it will then decide whether ferguson police officer darren wilson should be indicted for the shooting. there is some anxiety about what could happen if there's no indictment. missouri's governor says steps

police believe the 35-year-old man fell into the walls from the roof. they think he was trying to rob a store. workers on monday and tuesday reported hearing a man shouting... but they couldn't find him. finally, fire crews realized he was stuck in between the walls. he's hospitalized for dehydration and injuries to his lower extremities. he will likely face criminal charges when he recovers. scientists hope to make history half-a-billion miles from earth -- by landing a space probe on a comet, this morning. the european space agency confirmed the rosetta space craft has passed the second key checkpoint needed to keep going with its historic mission to put a lander on comet 67-p's surface. the blackhawks struggled on the power play again, giving up another short- handed goal... managers say it wasn't properly activated. demetrius loves the kind of stuff. >> of 7 hours of terror. we landed on mars it was only seven minutes. so this is seven hours
